I might be writing my last yelp review right now, since after a burger like the one I just had... I can die a happy man. Joined a buddy for lunch and a coffee at this wonderfully spacious bar/restaurant. With an open floor plan and two areas for seating, the Sunday crowd is of a young (creative) professional age eating an drinking. The wait staff is attentive but not pushy, typical of the area. My partner in crime this afternoon had the mannenburger (Man's Burger) while I had the "Brat Burger". Juicy, flavorful, perfectly cooked and at the right temperature. All around positive experience. Super cute cafe with a great outdoor terrace for sunny days like today :) Had lunch here with a friend and although service was slow, we didn't mind the extra time in the warm weather! We ordered the Eggs Benedict with spinach, small Quinoa Salad, fresh mint tea and latte. The Eggs Benny was awesome, perfectly poached eggs, tasty spinach sauteed with garlic, a good slather of hollandaise and it also came with a nice fresh salad on the side. Quinoa salad was great too, loved the smoked almonds in it, the large probably would have been too big for me. They also host a number of events, ranging from a good ol' pub quiz to movie nights and more. Will definitely be back here to try more of their tasty dishes enjoyed under the sun! read more

i went to this restaurant for yelpie burger time and yes we got burgers! they have a man burger and a lady burger. the atmosphere of the restaurant is casual and lovely with a back room that has one of those fake fireplaces. every time i went to the bathroom (twice, yes i'm one of those) i'd see the fireplace and wanted to plop myself down. there were some very cozy looking chairs in front of it. the restaurant is quite large with a terrace in the front with heated lamps. the burger is very very good! great quality meat/bun and all the fixings (pickles, jalapenos, dressing, tomatoes, slice of ham etc.) it comes with fries and i also thought there were tasty. a nice crunch to it and moist inside. i got the lady's burger and a lot of ppl sitting next to me got the man burger. i don't think, at least visually, there was a big difference in the size? they both looked the same to me. i definitely want to come back and try some of their other dishes. one last thing...i'm just so happy Amsterdam has a slew of restaurants that make good burgers and this place is one of them. read more

I stopped in for lunch. It was relatively quiet with maybe 3 or 4 tables occupied with customers working furiously on their laptops. There were plenty of places to sit. I picked a table by the window next to the bar. There appeared to be two people working, a server and a cook. The server was friendly. I ordered a beer and then began to peruse the menu. There appeared to be only a few burgers one for men, massive packed with stuff, and another for women. I suppose smaller and daintier. They were aptly named the man burger and the woman burger. I opted for the man burger. I don't recall the waitress asking how I wanted it cooked. The burger came slightly well done. It was a little more cooked than my preference. So I found it a little bit tough. It was okay overall but not exciting. Maybe if it wasn't so well cooked it might have been better. I'm not sure. It came with a pile of jalapenos on the side. The fries were big, fat and crispy with just the right crunch. I think I enjoyed those more than the burger. Several times I asked the waitress for things which she either didn't hear or she just plain forgot. She was pleasant so I let it slide.I'd go back again and give it another try. When searching for a place to live one fine Saturday morning this summer, my partner and I were famished after skipping breakfast and running around all morning. As we walked around the neighborhood of one apartment we were looking at, we stumbled upon Cafe Kostverloren. I'm so happy we did. Big windows, and a bright but relaxed atmosphere, plus ample outdoor seating give this place a great and refreshing vibe. The menu is big but not too big and there are dishes to please all. Being vegetarians we opted for the following: -Bowl of pumpkin soup to share - Salad with goat cheese and honey - Panini with veggies and cheese The soup was wonderful and served with delicious dark brown break. The salad was huge, tasty, and not lacking in the goat cheese (which was lightly grilled) and flavor. The panini also hit the spot. We had coffee, orange juice and enjoyed a great meal. As the Tour de France was just about be begin, we also found out that for 1 euro we could join their Tour de France pool. We picked 15 riders, paid our Euro and enjoyed daily updates from the Cafe via email recapping the stages, providing the results for those in the competition, and announcing the prizes they were giving to stage winners in the pool. The emails were hysterical! And it was great to feel like part of a little community. I have been back a few times for lunch. Have yet to go for dinner. Really excellent food and I am sure it is good for non-vegetarians as well! read more

So last Tuesday I joined some yelpers & expats for a'dam the burger tour. Some of the yelpers convinced me to you the a'dam yelp community, so here it is, my first review. This time we tried the burgers at Cafe Kostverloren. A regular on the menu is the man burger, a 200gr beef burger with fries and condiments on the side. Since I was in the mood for something different and was hoping to score a bite from the male burger, I went for the seasons special, the wild boar burger. Supposedly a huge burger, but next to the man burger not really. They were about the same in size. First the bun. Although I was being forced to be healthy that night by serving the burger on a whole wheat bun, I didn't mind, since wild boar has quite a gamy flavour and could handle a healthy bun. However, when the bun actually damages your gum, that's not a good thing. The bun was way too "crunchy". As for the wild boar patty. It was good. Had a sausage like quality to it and tased kind of sweet with the carmelized onions. The truffel sauce was a nice addition. According to my table mates, the male burger was the best choice though and they tasted both of them, so I think it was a fair judgement. What would've been even fairer was if I could've tasted both burgers as well. Also, they added their own condiments to the man burger. Apparently, everything tastes better with your own home brought bio PB (peanutbutter). As for drinks, I tried the Vedette extra blond. Unlike it's human female counterpart, this 1 was very mild and quite tasteful. The red wine they serve is also nice, round without any unpleasant tannines. So, all in all, the burgers weren't too bad but not the best I've had. read more

Delicious!! A definite must try while in Amsterdam! We came here on a Saturday about noon for brunch and the food and the service is fantastic! They even had soy lattes which have been hard for me to find while visiting Amsterdam. They also make fruit and yogurt smoothies, we had the berry one and it was yummy! The menu was all in Dutch but the waitress happily helped us. My husband had the Waldorf burger and we both agreed it was one of the best burgers we've ever tried. The patty was so juicy and flavorful. I had scrambled eggs and bacon with fruit and a little green salad and it was exactly what I wanted. It's a few blocks out from Dam Square but I assure you it's definitely worth the trip!!!! read more

The best part of this place is the atmosphere. The food has been hit or miss: the only thing that has ALWAYS been delicious has been the dessert. Normally I really like this place. It's easy-going and has great burgers. But last Saturday evening when we arrived at 20:15, it was hard to get the attention of the waitress, when we did she wasn't particularly friendly, and then she told us they had run out of both the burger of the month and the veggie burger, which is one of the few vegetarian options they have, and which we had specifically come for (because I heard it's great).
