Searched for somewhere to grab dinner during as brief a time away from the hospital as possible. Intrigued by the online presence, ignored a report that others had been past the location and imagined it had closed. Per Cafe Istanbul's owner Nina, they had just recently opened - after the usual kinds of delays imposed by varying levels of bureaucratic interference (my words, not Nina's) that occur when departments are either self-funded through fees and fines or simply aware that the financially-minded among our officials review those fees and fines to determine whether the departments' staffing is reduced to match the budget. So, after four months of delays, Istanbul Cafe, Cafe Istanbul, and/or Caffe spelled in each case with two "F's," had been open just a week. However, Nina and her family (whose interactions were a delight to watch in what appeared to be at least three generations), have clearly been preparing excellent food for much longer than that. First time at a middle-eastern restaurant? See what they do with gyros. One of us got the plate (with pita, rice, and hummus - that was thinner than I make, but delicious just the same!). The other got the wrap (and forgot to write down the name of the thinner-than-pita exterior that was a great improvement, especially for the diabetic trying to keep the carbs at bey), which appeared with fries and a delicious sauce. But there was an appetizer we had to try, too. The crispy cheese rolls surrounded feta cheese and parsley with filo dough. Perfectly cooked and great with or without the signature sauce. Fun place for people watching, excellent food, easily accessible, and a small, family-run business that we hope will survive the bureaucrats so we can enjoy ourselves there again on our next trip to the nearby medical establishments. read more

Cafe Instabul has become one of our favorite places to visit. Prices are competitive, portions are very good for what you buy. Chicken kabob is never dry always juicy and bursting with flavor and the chicken shawarma you can taste the delicious spices. The salad stays crunchy and never wilted and the salad dressing is delicious. Always friendly service and place is very clean and organized. Tucked around the corner, you must look for it...you won't be disappointed. I had the lamb/beef gyro and it was excellent. Full of thick meat (not the thin stuff). Very large portions of meat inside. The flavor was excellent and the veggies inside crisp and fresh. I was thinking to myself that this place is about the same price as Chipotle, but you get about double the amount of meat and better tasting. Then my mind started thinking about the long line of people typically at the In-N-Out. You get way more for your money here and you don't have to pay separately for fries. This place is amazing! The food is exceptional and the staff is so friendly and welcoming. I was staying at a nearby hotel the day before an early flight out of SFO (restaurant is located one exit from SFO airport) and stopped in for lunch. It was so good that when my family arrived later in the day we went back for dinner. To top it off, after we got back from our vacation we went out of our way to eat there again before the drive home! The food at that place was delicious I took the kefta kabab with salad and French fries it was great and the n I got there traditional cake which it was tres leche and they do I there and my friend took arian drink they did it from scratch which is milk and they keep shaking it and add some salt and something else anyway she told it was superb the service was great and the ambiance was nice you should definitely try it read more

Tried the Adana Wrap and .... Only okay. Really dislike false advertising .. and the Adana looked nothing like it's photo in size/proportion (it's literally the size of a large cigar). Furthermore I really dislike when Middle Eastern places claim something is served on Lavash bread and then you get a tortilla wrap ... there's a fundamental difference between these two things ... and you can buy like 8 pieces of Lavash for approx $1.99 at TJs (so why are we skimping here?). In the defense of the business, I feel like these kinda places are more suited for sit down and enjoy a full plate of food ... not grab and go (as we Americans always feel compelled to do) so I'm guessing the plated food is probably pretty good since the meager contents of the Adana was actually tasty. read more

This is a new cafe, so I will be detailed. There is a sign that says it is around the corner, which is how I found it, when I was going to Panera. It would have helped it the sign had an arrow pointing towards the corner. The cafe was bright and clean. The server helpful and accommodating. Even though there were very few customers, my food took 20 minutes to come out. This left me little time to eat. However, the food was good. I liked the salad a lot. Even though they didn't put the dressing on the side as requested, it had the perfect amount of dressing. I had the chicken kebab plate. The hummus was good and the pita crispy as requested. The ladies room was clean and well stocked, but it did lack a hook for a purse or coat. Overall, it was a nice surprise to find this place. read more
