Great area to enjoy a cold Bavaria beer and watch all the people. The olives are good too. Super service.

Cannibale Royale - Burger topped with pulled pork

I'm a committed carnivore, so a restaurant named Cannibale Royale had me before I even opened the…read moremenu. I found it browsing Yelp, and the name alone told me this was going to be a meat-forward kind of night. Fair warning if you're bringing anyone squeamish about restaurant names: The wife wasn't thrilled about it going in, though the food won her over fast. Getting there was its own small adventure. The place sits down a narrow alley, and our Uber couldn't get us all the way to it, which turned into a bit of a hike. That happened to us more than once in Amsterdam, using the exact address didn't always mean the driver could actually reach the door, so budget a few extra minutes if you're headed here. I normally default to steak, but the menu had a burger topped with pulled pork that promised more meat than a straight cut, and I couldn't pass it up. Delicious. Genuinely one of the best burgers I've had. But the wife's flat iron steak might have stolen the night. Flat iron is one of the most underrated cuts out there, and this kitchen proved it. She was still talking about that steak days after we got home, enough that I ended up buying flat irons from Costco just to chase it. The atmosphere is cool and a little edgy, dim lighting, a lot of character, and yes, some genuinely creepy decor scattered around, including an old doll that stares at you like it's judging your order. It ran loud, but not so loud we couldn't hold a conversation across the table. Service was good, just on European time rather than American time. Getting the check took a while, which threw us off at first, but that's the norm across the EU, not a knock on this place specifically. Pricey, but worth every bit of it. We'd go back without hesitation next time we're in Amsterdam.

Great spot for dinner!…read more This place is giving dive bar in so many ways, but the food quality is stepped up. It was very warm in the place, so keep that in mind if you're traveling in Amsterdam during a heat dome! We had a couple servers who worked with us nd both were kind and friendly. They didn't quite communicate with each other about our need to split the check a specific way, but it worked out in the end. We enjoyed some cocktails and beer (ranging from 9.50 Euro to 12 Euro), as well as the Pork Belly and Pickles to start off (21.50 Euro for 300 grams). Tasty way to start the meal. The three of us shared our mains and enjoyed what we had. The Favorite Ribs (24.50 Euro) were flavorful; the L'Incroyable 300gr (Ribeye; 34.50 Euro) was good, but our least favorite of what we ordered; the Le Cannibale Royale 170gr (burger) was super tasty. We also enjoyed some frites (4.90 Euro) and some delicious Mac n Cheese (6.50 Euros). Good time and good food!

Overall an ok experience because: + average food…read more+ friendly and welcoming atmosphere + very slow service I would give it 3,5 star for the very welcoming atmosphere and the good quality meats. The pace of service and the rest of the dishes could be improved though. The food was ok-ish. For example, the meats were of good quality, but they were cooked in too much gravy and were served with bland tasting vegetables. Also the cocottes had good tasting mushrooms, but the sauce was overwhelming. The place itself is very welcoming and the staff very friendly. The owner/chef came to our table for a very friendly chat. It has a very intimate and relaxed atmosphere. However, the service is incredibly slow. It took 25 minutes before our drink orders were taken and we received the menu, 35 minutes to place our order and only 75 minutes after arriving did we have our first course. And the restaurant was not very crowded. Feels like this should be improved.

I got lucky with this place because they had a table for four on a friday evening! The place is a super charming tiny little place, old school dutch style. And I loved how every table has a candle on it. While browsing the menu we had a plate of bread with a herring pate and olive oil placed down. The bread was delicious and the herring pate, even better! We all decided to get the four course surprise menu which was 32.40 i believe. Each course was delicious. All the meats were cooked and marinated perfectly (I have photos attached to this review of each course). I recommend all of them and it was hard deciding which one was my favorite. I don't think this place is traditional brazilian but brazilian inspired and they did a good job doing their twist on it. Service was also efficient and friendly especially for being a full house! The only reason I can't give them 5 stars is because we all felt the portion sizes were a bit on the small side. The guys at our table left hungry. I was on the edge of still hungry. Also we ordered more bread for our table since we knew the plates weren't going to fill us up. We got charged for each extra bread basket we received. I would also recommend this place for a nice romantic dinner. Dark walls, charm & candlelight.. you can't go wrong!
