Now boys and girls, who knew "panacea" means to "cure all"?…read moreThat is the perfect description for the warming, hearty spanish inspired meals served up from a daily changing specials menu and regular pizza and tapas fare here. Sit amongst birds nest lighting, green walls and in uncomfortable plastic chairs while you watch a chaotic open kitchen steam, clang and heat up inside or take a leisurely look down your nose at passers by as you sip your red wine and nibble tapas under big white umbrellas in the summer breeze outside. Crispy BBQ quail, simple warmed olives and baked gnocchi are all you really need to look at but there is a very long menu for those who like to feel they have choice. Note thought that this is one of those places where you need to probably allow sharing plate minimum per person though if you want to be full at the end of the night. Very strong Moroccan, Spanish and meat based flavours engulf most dishes here and you will get rich flavours like goats cheese, marinated herbs and plenty of salt coming through with most dishes - but it is worth it. Service is hilariously attentive - I have had 2 people serving my table all 3 times I have been to date. And waitered service like that is normally a lot more expensive in Adelaide now-days. It really makes you feel special and enhances the experience of "being amongst it" where you are literally next to the open kitchen if you are in the main area. If you don't fancy flashing the AMEX card then dine here with the suits and ties or stockings and slippers (very few of those) for lunch and dinner from 12-6pm Monday to Thursday for half price pizzas and jugs of sangria - bargain!

Not only did we receive 25% off our bill using the check in feature on the Yelp app, but the red sangria was absolutely delicious. No cheap nasty wine was used and had an authentic Spanish taste. We ordered the pate entree to share and we're impressed at the very generous serving. The flavour was perfect and just enough to keep us going until our later Dinner. The service was good. However when we arrived we were the only ones there. Although friendly, it wasn't above and beyond. It would be good to see how they fare when the restaurant was a little busier. Will definitely return to try the full menu and for more sangria. If you have not already been, now's the time - especially with the current Yelp offer which will make that sangria extra sweet and soul soothing.

From the dips to the lamb cutlets to Greek sausages (Loukaniko) the keftedes are all served perfectly for sharing which makes a night to this establishment perfect for groups. This late dinner was overall very relaxing even though we came in off the street so had to sit outside but we enjoyed a cooling breeze after one of Adelaides hot summer days. Service was friendly and competent with a very welcoming host - it was almost as if the whole place had just been transplanted from Greece. A medium sized bar with some interesting Greek craft beers. Definitely will be back for a more extensive review. Recommend booking a few weeks in advance as it is small. An update: we returned mid week for dinner and were treated to warm and friendly service again! This time we had beef shoulder and the traditional lamb and beef patties. The shoulder was the highlight smothered with delicious tomatoes and sitting on a very tasty sauce. Our entree was the octopus cooked in wine - succulent! Not tough at all which I think is a sign of good octopus cooking? Salad was very interesting lentil and pomegranate - also yum. Desert was a spongey chocolate tart and reminded me of those self saucing puddings, except it was way more delicious. Drinks were a Greek ipa and the Greek alpha red which reminded me of the reds in southern France. Coffee was excellent.

The menu's seem to include many similar dishes with a few differences here and there, where Kafe is slightly cheaper. Despite the similarities between the menus, I've always chosen to go to Kafe - it's atmosphere is much cosier, and the heating outside during the cold weather makes it a perfect smoker's spot! The last time I was there I tried a dish that featured on the specials board. There's no chance of me remembering what it was called, but it was almost like a rustic beef stew. Considering it was winter at the time, it was the perfect dish to accomodate to the cold night air, and well worth the money. I'm glad I chose to try something different that night, as I was very skeptical about ordering a moussaka at $27.50 each - it just didn't seem justified to me. The service was impeccable - our waiter made sure we had enough to drink, enough water and ensured that we were happy with our evening. The great service really topped off the experience. The coffee was great as usual, and we didn't seem to wait for too long despite how busy it was inside. So far I've yet to be disappointed with the team at Kafe, I've yet to find out what service is like next door.

But when I went into the restaurant, I discovered that nothing was marked -- and moreover, when I went back to look at the online menu, I realized only the appetizers (the first page) were marked. Okay, no big deal. I'll just ask the guy behind the counter, I think. "Pretty much everything on the menu is gluten-free, mate," he says, "So instead of me standing here listing them for you, how about you tell me what you want, and I'll tell you if we can do it." At this point, someone came in to pick up an order, so the guy interrupted his conversation with me to give him his stuff. That took like several minutes. I asked for a couple of skewers. Yeah, that was gluten-free, he said, and so were the chips that accompany them. At this point, he interrupted me again to deal with another customer (or the same one? not sure). Well, I'm American, so it took me a minute to realize chips aren't the same as crisps, and I needed to ask if they have any gluten in the same fryer as the chips. So after he finished with the customer, I asked about the fryer. "I can't guarantee there isn't going to be gluten contamination in the food, mate," he snapped. "Okay, well, I get that, I'm just trying to ask you a simple question," I said. "You've been standing here asking me questions for about ten minutes now," he barked, which pissed me off, since most of the last ten minutes he'd spent *interrupting* my questions to deal with other customers. So I pointed that out, and said, "You know what, it's clear you don't want my business, so I'm just going to go somewhere else." He kept trying to argue with me as I (and my colleague) went out the door. It would have been super easy for this guy to spend two minutes of his time answering some questions, or even politely telling me he was worried nothing in the restaurant would be safe for me. Instead he made it clear that I was not a priority, and then claimed I was wasting *his* time. If you're Celiac or have any food allergies, I do not suggest this business.
