It's ok in there but when I ask for no black pudding and no tomatoes I think they should offer some think extra but they never do.

Spire is a restaurant which achieves an "in-town" feel but is actually situated out of town. The…read morerestaurant has achieved many awards including Liverpool Restaurant of the Year - all of which are deserved in my opinion. The menu is a mixture of Modern European and British food which isn't too pricey for the calibre of restaurant - a main meal will set you back about £16. The interior is clean cut and modern with an atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. I think this is a difficult task considering that Spire is home to some of the best chefs in the North West.

However there are plenty of fixed price meals with multiple courses that are excellent value, so even if you're feeling a little light in the pocket department you can still enjoy a highly accolade restaurant. The service here is really top notch, it can occasionally be a little slow but it's friendly and attentive and that's what ultimately matters. Even the owner gets involved which is always a good sign. There's a wonderful atmosphere and the decor is more than gorgeous, but it's the food that's the star here, especially the crispy squid starter with chilli sauce and pak choi. Mouthwatering deliciousness. There's no particular food 'theme' here other than painfully hip and modern, hence why you'll find gnocchi and mushrooms accompanying turbot on the same menu, but I loved all the combinations. The portions aren't massive as you'd expect from a restaurant like this, but they're certainly sufficient enough. The unhurried ambience really adds to the quality of the place and you feel like you can relax, and the staff seem to genuinely want to listen to you. The desserts are stunning as well. All in all, all boxes ticked - attention to detail here is paramount and that's reflected in the quality.

What a birthday meal…read more Having been advised by various friends and family that this was the place to have a celebratory meal, we headed to 60 Hope Street with high hopes, all of which were matched. Visiting on a Sunday evening, the service and atmosphere was very light any cheery, with no sense of being rushed at any point. We were sat by the window and presented with a bottle of champagne, ordered by my lovely parents, though the card ordered to go alongside didn't appear! It was poured straight away and kept chilled throughout the meal, with our glasses being topped up whenever required. Taking in our surroundings, we felt very much at home - it feels grand, but not in your face. Clean lines are the name of the game, much like the London Carriage Works attached to the Hope Street Hotel. Special, but not overfacing. We tucked into a 3 course Winter menu, with no sign of the dreaded meat and two veg Christmas meal that many restaurants end up relying on at this time of year. I started with scallops, perfectly cooked, followed by lamb. For dessert it was chocolate and cherry, presented with Happy Birthday in chocolate writing; I'm a sucker for the details. Upon leaving, all staff wished me a happy birthday and I left feeling very special and looked after. Well done 60 Hope Street, and keep up the great work. I'm sure I'll come again soon.

"60 hope street??? Really???? Can you imagine if Alma de cuba was called "Seel street" or San Carlo's in manchester, "40 King street"???? Wasn't there a loved one, or something else the owner was fond of? Anywho, once you get past the name I mean what is in a name I suppose, the place is A-ok. With its Georgian entrance the restaurant, encompasses a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the decor is somewhat simplistic compared to other options in the area however the food rules the roast in my book in a restaurant, and here...just like the place itself, it is A-ok. The A la carte menu is accompanied by a daily changing special menu, an idea which I quite like. The food is cooked using local produce which is always a good sign and thus the menu changes with the seasons. Being near the water naturally you expect seafood and hey presto the menu offers a variety of fish dishes. If you have room left in the tank for a dessert and aren't too bothered about teh calories you can always go for teh signature dish 'Deep Fried Jam Sandwich with Carnation Milk Ice Cream'. I did, and must say it was niceeeeeeeeeeee oh yayyy.

I do like the egg shaped chocolate ones these days that you can get from Blockbuster pick n mix stands..mmmmmmm. I just imagine the owners of this establishments sharing my love of almonds. Almond Restaurant & Bar is nestled in West Derby Village making it a loved local restaurant. The decor is modern contemporary but doesn't feel too cold. I highly recommend their breaded Fish Goujons with Lemon & Dill Dressing, a perfect rip snorter of a starter. For the mains the 8oz handmade Burger topped with Cheese served with Hand Cut Chips & Homemade Coleslaw is a good choice indeed. Must admit though I was slightly underwhelmed by the menu, it felt slightly pub comfort food orientated to me. It wasn't very extensive either with less than 10 mains to choose from. However what they do have is delicious, so one shouldn't complain really. Allin all good experience indeed. At 2 courses for £12 and 3 for £16 try and fit in a Almond Ice Cream Sundae if you can because it was just "God Damn!!!!!!!!!" kind of tasty.

I think it's a cosy little place with a lovely atmosphere and good food. Some may find it a little pricey but I think it's value for money. There's a 2 course menu for £12 or 3 courses for £16. The fod is freshly prepared & cooked & is well presented. It has recently been voted Liverpool's Favourite Small Independent Restaurant 2010. I live locally, I have visited twice for dinner and it has been busy. I look forward to becoming a regular visitor & trying out different dishes rather than travelling into the city centre for a decent restaurant. I would also recommend booking a table beforehand as it is a small venue.
