I think this is the best brunch in Ithaca. Their coffee is PERFECTLY caffeinated. Breads are delicious. I love the morning glory sandwich, it has some kind of chutney catsup on it. There's usually some kind of pancake and French toast specials that aren't on the menu, don't miss those. Cash only of course but that's fine with me - there's an ATM nearby. read more

This place is a super crowded brunch location with some fun dishes. The Ithaca hype about this place is a bit too much for the quality though. While I have had some good brunches here, I find their food a bit too greasy for this style of cuisine. Now don't get me wrong, I love my diner grease, and my chinese takeout grease, but just not my quaint sunday brunch grease ... sorry for the double standard folks. They do have a good combination of sweet and savory items to please all palates and I still do go here time to time, but it just isn't worth the line. read more

The food is excellent. The only problem is that one of the waitresses has OFFENSIVE body odor. She has some crazy hairstyle and I'm concerned some bugs may be jumping out of it. She also wears a sweater that reveals her unshaven armpits. I will never return to this place. read more

During its busy hours, the service was not good. They seated us at a table behind a big column. And the waitress kept walking by us without taking orders. People who sat down after us got their orders taken before we did. Definitely had better food and service at other restaurants in ithaca, such as the mahogany grill, carriage house cafe. We came on a Wednesday morning, and it was slow. Despite the slowness, the servers weren't extremely attentive nor did they alert us that it was cash only until we were about to pay. I really wanted to love this place. I came for the organic eggs which were good but the preparations and portions were not quite on point. My chef's breakfast was ok. Eggs were well cooked but potatoes were al dente and then burnt on one side. Did not seem like there was any cheese on my dish and I really thought it would have been tastier if the spinach were cooked. Greasy burn't/uncooked potatoes on raw spinach is an awkward combination. My companion's plate looked mostly empty. One more egg or a little more avocado would have helped. He felt underserved and disgruntled. The two breakfast omelettes we had were quite good. One featured hazelnut pesto and fontina and mozzarella. The other was with chorizo and green beans. The potatoes that accompanied the omelettes were excellent. Fresh squeezed OJ is a nice option too. The atmosphere is absolutely awful. There can be incredibly long waits. But damn their brunch is good. I once had creme brulee french toast that was out of this world (similarly to most of their french toast/pancake concoctions). The omelettes never disappointed and the service is always good. If you can tolerate the surroundings, it is a great place for brunch. Get there early, because sometimes they run out of exactly what you would have ordered (which sucks). read more

I went for Sunday brunch with a couple of out-of-town friends, and the three of us were appalled by how long we had to wait to even get menus. Then we waited another 45 minutes to be served our brunch items. When we expressed our displeasure to our waiter, he made excuses about their "system" and walked away. I've been here about 8 times. I love the food. It's always fresh and interesting and delicious. The service is hit and miss, and there is a big hallway in between the main dining area and a few other tables. When they stick me on the far side of the hallway, I feel like I'm eating my food outside on a crowded street...and not in a good way. read more

We stopped here on Sunday morning for brunch, although by the time we ended up eating it was definitely the lunch hour. Our wait was about an hour, but since there are so few good brunch places that we could find in Ithaca, we decided to wait it out. Unfortunately the wait wasn't worth it. The menu they gave us was pretty minimal and boring, and it was only after we had finished eating that we discovered a blackboard full of better-sounding alternatives to scrambled eggs and bacon. Since we were seated behind a column we had no clue it was there, and the waitress said nothing to us about it. Service was kind of slow, and the food was definitely not worth the wait. For the price, I could have made the exact same thing at home times five. I wouldn't come here again. read more

The huevos rancheros were mediocre. There was a odd spice that left a lingering taste. A less than 4 ounce glass for water was served and not refilled. Service was poor. Waitress acted as if we were a bother although all she did was bring a glass of water,take our order,deliver the food and bring the check. Never checked to make sure everything was okay. There was no mention of the blackboard specials. I had to get up to read them myself. As much as I wanted to love this place as I like to patronize local businesses, I was very disappointed in our experience. It will be a long time before we consider going again. I've been here three to five times by now and I always thoroughly enjoy everything from the ambiance to the food. I think it definitely deserves more than 3.5 stars!!! This is an interesting little place inside of the Dewitt Mall. The food is really really good. Fresh, local and well seasoned. I had the huevos rancheros special which I proclaimed while eating to be one of my best life decisions. Braised grass fed beef in a stewey sauce of tomato, onion, and a great balance of heat (chipotle) and sweet (cinnamon??). Service by college students was great. read more

I love Cafe Dewitt! I go here almost every weekend with my boyfriend because we live right up the road. We have tried almost everything on the menu and except for one dish, it's all been delicious. I can't really tell the difference, but my boyfriend's only complaint is that the coffee could be better. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because there are a lot of places like Cafe Dewitt in big cities, but for Ithaca it is certainly special. The owner, a German lady, is really great. I saw her speak at Standard Art Supply and it was great to learn more about her philosophy on food and nourishment. Most definitely a better place to go to than Moosewood (nobody paid me to write that)! Definitely try the "energy drink," it's like a delicious green smoothie! read more

Pros: EXCELLENT brunch food, definitely the best in town Cons: the wait can be long, the ambience is very 90's because it's in the Dewitt Mall Go because the food is fantastic. I recommend the Tunisian Plate, any of the omelettes or the Huevos Rancheros if you're stopping by. Give yourself time for a leisurely brunch-- as mentioned, the service can be slow when it's busy and there can be wait (usually 15-20 mins). This is my go-to brunch place because I think the quality of the food makes up for everything else. read more

Go for brunch! The service on weekend is still decent, although you might have to wait for a table. Speaking of, the tables are just sort of in a hallway, a pretty relaxed atmosphere. They usually have some interesting items that you wouldn't see on an ordinary brunch menu. read more

Went here with my boyfriend for brunch, One of my biggest issues with this place was that we weren't approached by a waitress for a good 10+ minutes, so we were just sitting there waiting for a menu. It was really weird, and it looked like the two waitresses were either incredibly slow or just didn't care. Then it took them forever to come and take our order as well. We overheard the waitress telling another table that they don't take cards, only cash or check. So you'll have to go to the Greenstar and use their ATM and pay the 3.00 fee to take money out. While my boyfriend went to get money, the waitress was going around to a few tables to ask if they wanted a discount on their order for the "mishap" earlier. What mishap you ask? Oh, a mouse was in the cafe. Yes, a mouse. Since it was gone we decided to stay, but seriously gross. We got the farmhouse (something like that) breakfast $8.95 with bacon (making it $10.95). My next issue was that when our food did arrive we got TWO SKIMPY PIECES! I was kind of peeved by that, at least give a reasonable serving for that extra fee. Regardless of all these things that happened, the food was actually really good when it came out. I would definitely consider coming here again regardless of the mishaps.... and I'll be remembering to have cash on hand so I don't get jipped by the ATM again. read more

This is our go-to brunch/breakfast place when we visit our daughter at Cornell. The food is always great. My only comment is the service is consistently slow. It could just be an Ithaca thing and we need to slow down. The staff is always wonderful and sweet just don't go if you are in a rush. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. Unless you are a fan of caterpillars crawling in your food, I highly suggest never coming to this establishment. I ordered the crab cakes and halfway through eating my meal a caterpillar literally crawled across my plate. When I told my waiter this, he did not act surprised or apologize, and his response was "OH yeah sometimes that happens when you have fresh greens." He then took my food, did not offer me new food of any type, and still charged me for my coffee. We were also served spoiled soy milk. The service was terrible and I will never go back. read more

Amazinggggg food. Finally tried this place today for brunch because Moosewood was too packed. Exceptional service, every employee was super nice and attentive! My boyfriend split the ricotta stuffed french toast as an indulgence apart from our entrees, so yummy, get it without the fruit preserves :)! I got an egg-white omelette and it's nice because it's super customizable. Reasonably priced :)! The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that no servers warned us it was cash only... Bad service, food wasn't great, overall a bad experience. My husband did not get what he ordered, and although the waiter was apologetic and eventually came out with the right food, plenty of time had passed in between and I was already finished with my plate. I'm not sure if they only had one cook, but the wait staff could not keep up with their tables as different people went around to check on us.
