It's a small place and we had a challenge finding it ... but the place is fine, the food is great , the people are nice. Cafe con Leche is a quirky must-visit while in Apalachicola. They serve the best arepas I've ever eaten. These light, crisp flatbreads made from ground maize are freshly prepared. I love the vegetarian made with freshly sauted Julienned zucchini, yellow squash and tomatoes with a lovely cilantro sauce. They offer locally produced pastries and a hibiscus iced cooler that must be imported directly from heaven. It's a family run establishment and, yes, it's not corporate-crisp service. The front patio was a fun place to hang out, but unfortunately it's right across from the shrimp plant so when the machines get running, it's loud. Friendly staff. This is a good spot in Apalachicola. They have several Latin American dishes, including tacos, arepas, burritos, etc. the pastries were nice and enjoyable (I love guava!). Staff were super friendly and I enjoyed the pork a lot! I get that they're catering to the surroundings but I would love to see a more specific focus with some of the dishes (like more arepas) instead of having options that seem to want to please everybody. read more

Omggggg I am a meat lover but I absolutely loved the veggie quiche! I never order non-meat breakfasts, I like my protein, but I saw a picture of this quiche and had to try it. I was not disappointed. The coffee is always great here, cold or hot, it isn't my first time here so I've tried both. Very impressed. Plus they are one of the few places open as early as they were, they were pretty packed too. A solid choice for breakfast and probably lunch, or even just a quick coffee. read more

DELICIOUS! You get a lot of food for your money. The first day I tried their iced latte, very tasty. And I got the Arepa Carne Mechada. So filling and flavorful! I couldn't believe how tender the meat was . Second day I tried their coffee and it tasted fresh. I got the Pulled Pork Sandwhich. The bread was crispy but not tough. Stopped in this morning for pastries and coffee in the car. We are tourists and this place is decidedly not a touristy place. It seems local, affordable, and good. Today I went back to Cafe con Leche, I have been there 2 other times... the owner was there and the food was good....NOT TODAY...we ordered huevos rancheros.... the sauce was can sauce.. the tortillas not warmed right.... the coffee nothing like the few other times.....we drove from Tallahassee just to go eat there....unfortunately the food wasn't good or the coffee....it was 3cof us and we all agreed. I hope the owner takes time to teach the employees to cook the way she does. read more

If only there was one of these cafes in every town they would put Starbucks and Dunkin donuts out of business. The breakfast, lunches and baked goods are fresh and are made on location. My chai came out first and wowed me: creamy with a nice touch of cinnamon. Next was my ham, egg and cheese croissant with a spread. Last was the tart that I could only take a bite of since I was stuffed. The locals truly are lucky to have a place like this in town. My total bill was $13 and with the free wifi I was able to hang around a bit. There are other eclectic goodies for sale from hats to artwork. I found a piece of art that I couldn't stop staring at, that is until I looked at the price tag. I think I'll skip on buying that special treat! read more

We were here a year ago and nothing has changed except that I had the arepas for myself for the first time. My wife once again had the egg, bacon, and cheese arepa, while I had the veggie arepa with black beans and more. As a Southerner raised on cornbread, it amazed me how different and how special an arepa really was. It's really very special, and the good folks at Cafe Con Leche know how to do it right. We had lattes and espressos on 3 separate occasions while we were staying on SGI, and we both agreed that their coffees are better than any we get anywhere. Great vibe. They have a regular menu as well as a daily special menu on the side wall by the register. Of course I ordered the namesake as well as a breakfast burrito. They make it to order so expect to wait a few minutes, but it is so worth it! You can find several local artisans work as well. The service and food was great! The bagel shop in Apalachicola. Made two visits for breakfast. Unfortunately, not all of the items on the menu were always available. We ordered a New Yorker bagel for instance but it was not available on the second visit. The plain bagel was chewy and I can't recommend it. They serve an organic coffee - sits in thermos - not freshly made unless you specifically request. read more
