So pleased to see this coffee shop is still in business... it's located at one of the corners of the plaza, it has such a warm welcoming atmosphere, with super cute decor; telling a story of the business, with ample seating area inside and patio seating as well... This is my favorite place to eat breakfast! I live 3 minutes away from cafe canela. I love the torta de pierna and their horchata late. Service is always great! If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I was so happy to find out that Cafe Canela was still open when I recently moved back to Lynwood. I first started going when they first opened when I was 15 years old an am now 39. I brought my fiancé and he loved it! He became a regular and would go often without me. The last time he went, he stated he overheard the baristas call him a 'maricon', which means fa**ot, in English as they made his drink. They thought he didn't understand Spanish and he was so upset when he told me the story when he got home. He asked me what that word meant, just to be sure because of how in disbelief he was. Never in my life have I been to an establishment that was so bigoted and unprofessional to a HUMAN BEING and in front of their face. This is so upsetting because I was so happy to introduce an old favorite coffee shop of mine and were looking forward to having little dates there. I will be coming back for that horchata latte! It was one of a kind. I also ordered a bacon breakfast burrito. It was very fresh and loaded! I was full with just one half of the burrito. The only thing it was missing was salsa. They only had 1 type of salsa which was VERY hot, so if you wanted a slight kick you would be out of luck. Same thing goes for the wifi, they won't give it out. And even if you're a paying customer, you still have to put a quarter in to use the restroom; which I find ridiculous. The best chilaquiles I have had in years. It was so full of flavor with every bite. The tortillas on the side were a nice touch to make a lovely little taco of beans, eggs, and a fried tortilla marinated in delicious sauce.
