Visited Cafe Canela while running errands at Plaza México... So pleased to see this coffee shop is still in business... it's located at one of the corners of the plaza, it has such a warm welcoming atmosphere, with super cute decor; telling a story of the business, with ample seating area inside and patio seating as well... The good stuff: I ordered Cafe de Olla iced with canela cold foam on top, the coffee had the perfect amount of sweetness, and it wasn't too much...the cold foam I give it a 8/10 as I like it to be more on the creamy-top. side.... We keep coming back here! It's now a ritual Sunday before football starts . We now get breakfast burritos and coffee. As always the staff is great and helpful with your order and questions. Had high hopes for this place. Wait time was INSANE. I get they're not fast food, but an hour to get our food is crazy. Staff was not professional when asked for update on order. People that ordered after us got their food first. Asked a few times for update and staff was rude. One worker had the nerve to say we had not been waiting that long. Another customer that arrived way after us even told us on his way out, now that you're no longer hungry you get the food. There's other places with better customer service. read more

Giving it a 2/5 due to service and food management. While being there I noticed multiple health code violations. Cross contamination while cooking on the stove, scooped items from one pan to another. Open to-go food containers on counter top next to cleaning items Cashier was touching the cash register, money and then grabs a muffin (no gloves, tongs, or pastry bag) and walks it over to microwave. This is my favorite place to eat breakfast! I live 3 minutes away from cafe canela. I love the torta de pierna and their horchata late. Service is always great! The girls working there are very sweet. This place is crowded so please be patient. Their kitchen is small so don't expect your food quick. Everything is always fresh and cooked fresh. Line gets a bit long so again... be patient. ;) read more

The perfect breakfast burrito does exist! I asked for a breakfast burrito without all the fillers (rice, beans or potatoes), they nailed it. It had veggies, egg and ham. Light and the perfect size. The hot sauce has a good kick. Their cafe de ola is delicious, even offered iced. They have offerings like choco flan and other pastries. Highly recommend swinging by this spot. read more

Walked in and was greeted immediately from the crew here. It was a hot day so I got the Horchata Frappe and let me telllll you. PERFECTION. Perfect combination of sweetness and cinnamon. Great pick me up for the middle of the day and the medium size was a bang for your buck. Place gives me authentic coffee shop vibes with vaulted ceilings and Spanish style furniture around the walls. Has a cool little corner seat, but got my drink to go. Overall great experience. read more

Stopped by because I really like and support this local gem. Sunday morning around 9:30. Line was long. Service was fairly quick and cashier friendly. I ordered a chorizo burrito . I'm not sure if this is grease or butter or moisture, but. It makes for a messy experience. This has happened before. Last time, they drained the filling before putting into the tortilla. I know Cafe Canela reds these reviews... Can you please drain the filling before putting it in tortilla? Otherwise an overall great experience. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I was so happy to find out that Cafe Canela was still open when I recently moved back to Lynwood. I first started going when they first opened when I was 15 years old an am now 39. I brought my fiancé and he loved it! He became a regular and would go often without me. The last time he went, he stated he overheard the baristas call him a 'maricon', which means fa**ot, in English as they made his drink. They thought he didn't understand Spanish and he was so upset when he told me the story when he got home. He asked me what that word meant, just to be sure because of how in disbelief he was. Never in my life have I been to an establishment that was so bigoted and unprofessional to a HUMAN BEING and in front of their face. This is so upsetting because I was so happy to introduce an old favorite coffee shop of mine and were looking forward to having little dates there. Management, please do better on the hiring process and ensure this type of behavior never happens again. read more

Customer service is great here. On my 1st visit the coffee was okay but started to get too sweet for my liking after a few sips. Decided to give it another try on my next visit and it just was not it. I do plan on coming back and hopefully give a better review based on the food because everything is literally made to order and looks like your abuelitas cocina. Love the decor but note it is a small place and they do have indoor/outdoor seating but I did not feel no AC going. To be continued.... read more

Brought my dad here for his first time and boy was it a horrible experience. The delay. The wait. The food. Just was not worth it. I really love the hibiscus tea and my dad did also say he enjoyed his smoothie however, when we ordered the cashier took the money and then said it'll be a 20-25 min wait, in which myself and dad agreed to. Fast forward 12:33 we barely receive our food. Our food was really cold. It took about 45-55 mins for them to bring our food. COLD food. The waitress who brought our food kept rushing in, and didn't provide 2 utensils. We ordered two plates which we should've gotten 2 to begin with, my dad then got her attention and asked for a spoon and she gave him a fork. The tables were not wiped off. The food and drink were amazing. I got chilaquiles and a cajeta iced coffee. The wait time was not bad at all. They even brought my food to my table outside. The ladies working there were nice. Although, I will say that I asked for my food "for here" and it was still served in a box. Not a big deal because I was alone. However, I did notice a family in front of me sitting down waiting for their food and their food was also served in boxes. I will be coming back for that horchata latte! It was one of a kind. I also ordered a bacon breakfast burrito. It was very fresh and loaded! I was full with just one half of the burrito. The only thing it was missing was salsa. They only had 1 type of salsa which was VERY hot, so if you wanted a slight kick you would be out of luck. Same thing goes for the wifi, they won't give it out. And even if you're a paying customer, you still have to put a quarter in to use the restroom; which I find ridiculous. However, the surrounding area makes up for anything that could be wrong with it. It definitely feels like a piece of Mexico got ripped out and plugged into Lynwood haha read more

The best chilaquiles I have had in years. It was so full of flavor with every bite. The tortillas on the side were a nice touch to make a lovely little taco of beans, eggs, and a fried tortilla marinated in delicious sauce. The cafe de olla was the perfect mix of coffee and sweetness and I appreciate that they had an almond milk option! I cannot wait to keep telling people to try this place and taking more people. Came for breakfast. First time here, and would definitely recommend. I had the huevos a la mexicana, and She had the chilequilles both came with a side of beans and tortillas. Simple but delicious. They have a large selection of coffees and atoles, So i ordered a small cup of cafe de olla and champurrado. Both were flavorful. The chilaquiles verde was savory and tangy. It wasn't soggy at all and definitely one of my favorite dishes. The short rib omelette was savory but didn't give me any wow factor compared to the other dishes I ordered. The tropical pancakes were so pretty. I only tried a piece of it without the syrup which I think was a mistake because the kumquat syrup was my friend's favorite. I definitely need to try it again with the syrup. Best for last, mango curd French toast was my favorite! I fell in love with sweetness and tanginess of the mango curd. The French toast was soft and you can taste the butter. Not that it matters but in service certain things do and the female presenting person SHOULD always receive their food first. That was a surprise to me but I didn't read into as I expected my dish to arrive right behind. It did not. My guest and I continued to chat and sip until 20 mins later, as I'm watching dishes leave the expo station, did I say "where is my food?" The young server at the expo turned and rolled their eyes and then finally gave me my food. This was a buzz kill. I only went down a rabbit hole about it until I noticed I was the only Black person present. First, why would it ever been ok to not have dishes arriving to tables separately without saying "ma'am we're a little behind.." or to my guest "do you mind if we hold your dish a bit so we can make sure the food arrives together?" Being a previous server in high pace restaurants, communication, apologies, and ensuring perfect service is the goal. Poached is not a store front or even a little diner type of place. It's a casual, upbeat, bright breakfast/brunch spot. And yes, on busy days things happen but to not offer a reason, or apology, and giving the customer attitude is unacceptable. Food: The description of the food is well written. The prices are reasonable. I ordered the short rib omelette with whole grain toast and house potatoes. When I Finally received my food it looked great and I was eager to dig in. A first bite of the omelette I was sadly underwhelmed. The seasoning left much to be desired and it seamed to be more of a birria short rib flavor and I thought I chose the dish based on being excited about the combination of meat and cheese (which was barely there). I enjoyed the bread and potatoes more than the omelette. Go again score 1-5: 2 I really think this restaurant and it's operation needs some massaging, the cooks need to be trained, and a REAL chef needs to help improve the quality and taste of the food.

My co-worker has the breakfast burrito and he said it was Horrible. He also had coffee and said it was cold, all I had was water. The customer service was decent and the place was nice and clean. Not sure that I would come back again. The prices were not too bad.

I also ordered a raspberry, white chocolate and cashew cookie to share with my fam once I got home. Yes, we were able to share and enjoy 1 cookie. It was delicious. We've never had anything like it. Their theme is Friends and being a fan of the show, I think there is potential to get more creative with their decor. I do like that they have books and boardgames for their guests. They also keep the music level down making the coffee house a very cozy place. I want congratulate Cake and Coffee House for creating a such special menu. Employees are Thefts!! I went to buy some churros on October 9th; it was around 5:30 p.m. on a Thursday afternoon. I forgot my phone and keys on the register counter. When I realized I was missing my keys and phone I went back to ask if they had seen them. Both employees denied seeing them stating I probably forgot it at another shop. Thankfully a customer sitting inside helped me track it down through the "Find My iPhone" application. I logged in and was able to track it; I set the alarm and to my surprise I was able to HEAR MY PHONE! My phone alarm started ringing. I approached the counter, as I got closer to the ringing. The girls were just standing there eyes wide open starring at me. I leaned over the counter and realized they were hiding my phone behind the counter along with my KEYS! Seriously ladies! I was extremely disappointed knowing that both ladies were in this together. They blamed it on a third employee that coincidently had just finished her shift! I was really excited to try this place, but unfortunately the experience was very disappointing. The customer service was terrible from start to finish. It took about 30 minutes just to get our food, and when we finally received it, they didn't include napkins or utensils. When we went back to ask for them, the staff rolled their eyes, which felt very unprofessional. We also asked for salsa and were told they charge 50 cents for each one, which would have been fine if it had been communicated more politely. To make matters worse, once we got to our destination, we realized they had forgotten part of our order. We had to drive 20 minutes back, and instead of taking responsibility, they simply said "okay" and asked us to wait another 15 minutes. On top of that, the food itself was nothing special--honestly about a 5/10. Overall, the lack of accountability, poor attitude, and average food made this a frustrating experience.
