To James K. No sir the drinks did not take 23 minutes. The food took over 20 minutes then the drinks came 23 minutes after that and only after I asked about it. The whole wait was 45 minutes to get our drinks. Prior to this we would take our daughter there regularly after school. We haven't been back since but I hope service improved. I hope owners and managers are not taking the weekend off still. It was obvious there was no leadership on that busy weekend. But it's been nearly a month so I'm sure things improved. First time to Cafe Boba downtown Hilo. Went the night of Christmas parade. I ordered two drinks (was okay for our first time, a little sweet) around 5:50P, didn't receive my order until like 6:30P. We paid by Credit Card scanned in by their Square Up Reader. Very convenient and fast. The one star rating is for the ensuing breach of 'Data Impressment' by using our credit card info to Shanghai us on to their digital "Loyalty Program". Had they asked me at the counter, I may have joined voluntarily, however to use Black Hat parsing techniques to cleave out our email and web info from the Credit Card billing data without our consent is both disconcerting and dishonest. I was in Big Island for vacation and was really craving boba. Coming from LA, where the are so many great boba shops, I wasn't expecting much from pretty much the only boba shop on the island. But i was so so pleasantly surprised! Their boba's legit and the owners are so friendly. I didn't have to wait that long either. Parking is super easy, right in front of the shop. Ambience is good, tons of seats and homey decor. In just a week, i've visited this place 3x (my boyfriend is a huge boba fan) and we've tried these drinks: - classic milk tea boba: legit! I had a sample of the drink, and was able to judge my desired sugar level based on the sample - coconut milk tea boba: SO GOOD! I'm so impressed by how they managed to merge the flavors pleasantly. Highly recommend! - strawberry smoothie: somewhere between fresh and syrup, but still rly good in my opinion - coffee boba: i found this drink to be very sweet i suspect they might have used a 3-in-1 type of coffee packet. I might be wrong, but will definitely recommend sampling to know how sweet it is My only suggestion would be improving the packaging, the press-on lid doesn't feel as secure as a stick-on lid that i typically find from boba shops. I love Boba and this place just hits the spot. Smoothies, milk teas, frappes this place does it all. My favorite is the taro/coconut smoothie with the regular Boba. It is so darn good. I find myself craving it in the middle of my work day lol. Anyway the prices are reasonable. They offer a good variety of flavor combinations and add ins which include regular and mini bobas, popping flavored bobas and different jelly's. Definitely worth trying. Cafe Boba is about as legit as it comes not just on the Big Island, it's comparable to the best ones on Oahu as well. I had the taro coconut smoothie and my gf had the watermelon slush and her daughter had strawberry banana smoothie and let me tell you each one was awesome. Even the food smelled delicious. UPDATE!: So much better than the first time I went! I got their Cafe Boba Milk Tea with boba, and it was really good. Boba was really soft and flavorful. I also got a loco moco bowl, and that was good too! Hamburger was very flavorful and the food was steaming hot. Very pleased with the quality of everything now. Only thing is the bathroom door needs to be fixed. There's a really big crack that people can see in and I had a really hard time trying to lock the door. When I saw the photos I was afraid this was gonna be one of those powder boba places but when I got there I was VERY PLEASANTLY SURPRISED!!! This place has legit milk teas and regular teas!!! And I love that they have a mini boba option too!!! So happy to have found a legit boba option (the only one probably) here in Hilo after driving over from Kona.
