The food was good, but what really turned me off was the service. My boyfriend and I went for an early dinner on a Monday. The server had acted as tho we were a huge inconvenience. Never smiled, never told us her name. She dropped the food and walked away. Both of our drinks were empty and we had to flag her down to get more. The entire dinner was uncomfortable. We didn't stay for dessert because it was a horrible atmosphere. Now mind you, there was one other table in the restaurant. First and last time for this place. read more

For us poor NH folk this was a real treat close to the Wrentham outlets. Way better than any of the chains around and no drive into Boston--win win! We shared a bottle of the montepulciano, and shared a Mediterranean salad, with their slightly sweet homemade dressing. Their bread and oil was also lovely. I ordered the Chicken Portobella, which was phenomenal. Tomato-y earthy and full of flavor. Amazing. Don't let the squid ink linguine freak you out. We also got the chicken fra diavolo, which was fresh and peppery. Delicious. I will have to come back so I can eat more things off the menu! Basically it's North Wnd quality in Wrentham. Came for a late lunch after outlet shopping down the road. Was here a few years ago and had a good experience so I figured coming back. Wife and son was with me and we all had the same issues with our dishes. There was an alcohol taste to all our dishes as if the wine and vodka wasn't thoroughly cooked out of our dishes. Yup...this place is still 5 stars in my book. I was here for a recent late afternoon lunch with two girlfriends and although I have been here a number of times since my initial review, I thought it was time for an update . Even though it was 2:30pm when we arrived, the place was still packed with diners for lunch service. Thankfully there was a table available and no wait. Cafe Assisi continues to impress and even more so now since the owner has expanded what was a very tiny place into a roomier (but still small) restaurant. There is now a bar area with seats and several additional tables making for a roomier more comfortable place. I no longer regularly (read: almost never) eat pasta these days but on rare occasions I will indulge. For my lunch I ordered the chicken marsala which was served over a bed of perfectly al dente penne pasta so it was hard to resist. The chicken was so tender that I could cut it just with my fork...perfection. The sauce was silky and nicely redolent of the Marsala wine in which it was cooked but not sweet and cloying. One of my dining companions had the 4 jumbo ravioli with sweet Italian sausage which she loved and the other had the equally delicious (and beautifully plated) chicken piccata. I had a glass of nicely chilled Gavi wine...one of my favorites. Although it was only late afternoon, one of my dining companions was desperate to try the fig martini which she spotted on the cocktail menu..we all took sips of it...It was an outstanding cocktail served with a Gorgonzola stuffed fig on a toothpick. I was in cocktail heaven. This drink must be tried. The drink was the cocktail version of one of my favorite snacks which is fresh figs served with Gorgonzola cheese. So yummy was this drink, that I was inspired to infuse my own vodka with figs...it came out amazing and this drink will be on my holiday cocktail menu. (3/4 of a pound of dried figs put into a liter of vodka. Put in a cool dark cupboard or cover with a cloth that keeps out light. Shake the mixture (I put mine in a large mason jar) and shake vigorously every day or two. I tasted it at the end of a week and it was perfectly figgy and nicely infused at that point. Different recipes suggest infusing the figs from 48 hours to a couple of week...the 7 days worked fine for my batch. The martini includes fig vodka and a small splash of Cointreau. Shake over ice in your cocktail shaker and pour into a martini glass. Stuff a fresh fig with Gorgonzola cheese, skewer on a toothpick and serve. And of course if all this is too much, just go to Cafe Assisi have a great meal and order this cocktail. I honestly have never had a bad meal here and have a number of friends and colleagues who rave about this place. It's a winner. It is also such an oasis in the food-barren Wrentham Mass wilderness. As I mentioned in my first review, it's really the only place to consider eating when shopping at the outlets there. Service is terrific, the bathroom is always totally pristine and it is just a fun place to come for guaranteed great food. read more

I have been here twice for dinner and really enjoyed both evenings! The shrimp pizza was very good, and the butternut squash ravioli in cream sauce was even better!! Arrived here for lunch because we see the high rate on Yelp. The place was packed for lunch, we had to wait a little bit to get seated. The waitress who serve us a little bit rude. We waited for a little while after seated before she came around to take our order. After gave her our order, we waited again for our main dish to arrived but no bread. Did she forgot or its didn't come with it??? I asked her for the bread because I see every table around us were serve With bread. Our waitress said " your order doesn't come with bread but if you want it I will bring it." What???!!! We always serve with bread in any Italian restaurant we went to. I'm sure she was forget, Without any apologize the fact she forget our bread. While we were eating our main dish, we accidentally over heard over our shoulder ( each table were very close to each other), she were telling the next table about the daily special where we DID NOT know that there were a daily special menu from the first place. We would of choose something from it because we didn't like the menu choice we see. The foods were blah!!!!! The veal linguine were acidly taste and mushy... Such a cute find close to Wrentham Premium Outlets! It has traditional Italian options, huge variety and portions are very big! Service is very prompt, and everyone around us looked very happy with their food too. I liked seeing the family environment as well. I suggest getting the Zuppa di Vongole, Prosciutto con Mozzarella, Mediterranean salad as appetizers. I'm actually astounded by the good reviews. Maybe I went on a bad night? At this point, if you like eating pasta drowned in gallons of clarified butter, served by waitresses who would rather spend time anywhere else but serving you, this is my view of the place. I took some family friends there because of the reviews. Every one of us who ate (6 people) stated the food was poor and the service at the table was awful. We all did not finish our dishes because, let's face it, we just didn't want all that butter. And I you think I'm exaggerating, I had the risotto, and i cleared a spot on my plate then tipped it sideways, at least 4 tablespoons of butter drained down to the corner within about 2 seconds. Eeeeiuwww. I absolutely won't be going back. I gave it 1 star only because of the maître de - he was fun and efficient (and yelp won't let you give zero stars). As I said, maybe we had a bad night, but if what we had was normal, all I can say is that the locals don't have very high standards at all.... I love this restaurant. Derek, the owner, head chef and great host is back in charge. Every plate I have ordered there has been excellent. If you don't want to spend a lot of money get their delicious antipasto and a pizza with a couple of glasses of Chianti. You want something a bit more fancy, go for the veal saltimbocca or eggplant parmigiana. The seafood dishes could be straight out of Napoli. There are no bad dishes here. I brought some friends from Boston and they were blown away by the food, the service and the friendly staff. The place is small and gets crowded and is always fun. Let me start by saying this "hole in the wall" restaurant is the best in the area! We have been eating there for years and never had a bad experience. The food is fantastic and the service is just as good ! This past Friday night we decided to get takeout and relax at home with a pizza and salad. Got there and waited a few extra minutes for the order ,, it's Friday,of course they're slammed ! We drove home opened up the food only to find out they gave us the wrong kind of salad. No big deal but I called just to let them know about the mistake and thought maybe next time we were in they could comp us a dessert or something. He did one better,, he insisted he deliver the correct salad himself to our door. He showed up less than fifteen minutes later appologizing for the mistake. It was pretty obvious that they used cocktail shrimp and added it to the dish at the end. No way those shrimp saw any garlic in the pan. Once I found this place, I haven't been able to stop going. My favorite is the sweet potato ravioli, which I've ordered every time I've been. It is served with veggies, always had been squash and zucchini. Tonight it was filled with green pepper (which I detest) but which also was too strong for the dish & took over the flavor completely. I ordered through a service, but had I been there, I would've had to send it back. One entree is for tomorrow, but looks good. I also ordered a tiramisu - for $5.50, the piece is so thin, the end was cut off, definitely a child sized portion. read more

Ok, first you must know I am a chef ,and can be over critical at times,but I went to cafe asisi ,with high hopes, because everytime I drive by the place is packed. I ordered the gnocchi , which the flavor was delicious,but there was several , or should I say a dozen gnochii's that were undercooked and I couldn't even stick my fork through them. When I told the waitress I felt as though I was being brushed off , and sure enough no manager or owner came over to apologize, which I was shocked. This past Feb 13, the girlfriend and i were browsing yelp, trying to figure out someplace decent that would take a reservation. Cafe Assisi doesn't do reservations, but they assured us they would be able to seat us at the time we were looking to dine, and they came through. Yes, it is a very small place. Yes, it feels a bit strange eating such 'fancy' food a place with a deli case. Get over it - the food is amazing. I had the veal carciofi and was in heaven. The girlfriend reported that the butternut squash ravioli was similarly excellent. We shared a very moist piece of carrot cake for desert. Despite the quality of our meals, i was a bit jealous of the diners next to us, who ordered the filet (the aroma was intoxicating and the plate seemed to be overflowing with deliciousness). I take off one star because my glass of water was never refilled, but everything else about this place screams for many many return visits. read more

Greg and I had been trying to go here for a while. After dating 5 years, he finally remembered that there's a good pasta place in his town... and that I love pasta. We had tried to go here for his birthday, but things didn't work out. Greg also doesn't understand the concept of waiting for your meal..... He won't go anywhere with more than a 5 minute wait. Personally, waiting doesn't bother me. I theorize, if you have to wait... at least you know your meal is going to be good! One night, we came here with 2 friends, and they told us there would be an hour wait. I worked in the restaurant business for 5 years, and I told him.. trust me, we won't be waiting more than 15 minutes. We ordered a glass of wine to wait, and low and behold, within 10 minutes we were seated. The bread was unbelievable. Definitely 5 stars. I think we ordered about 3 loafs of it. The dipping oil is also delicious. For my meal, I got the penne with chicken and broccoli, with a Parmesan cream sauce. I really like the consistency, and textures.. and the pasta was fresh. However, the taste was a little off. I think I would have preferred a little more cheese and a little less cream. Overall, our group thoroughly enjoyed the food, and Greg and I took note that we should order take out from here more often. The service was slow... that is my main reason for bringing it down to 4 stars. While the resturaunt size is very very small (although thankfully they are expanding it), they only had one server on... for Friday at 7:00! I understand that it is family run, and there is very little space to move around since it is so small.. but we ended up waiting a lot... or feeling bad stopping our waitress to ask for something. THIS IS DEFINITELY A HIDDEN GEM!!! I have been here on numerous occasions. The food here is excellent. Tonight we had a stuffed Portabello mushroom that was overcooked. The stuffing itself was not up to par either. BUT, that is a big BUT the food here is the best italian fare you can get. The portions are huge and everything is made to order. We each order an entree and you have to take half of it home for lunch or dinner the next day. The prices are very reasonable. It only has 3 booths and 6 - 2 spot tables so there is not much room. We visited this hidden gem (at least for us) few times now. It's always a wonderful and exceptional food. Before I forget I'm a vegetarian and their vegetarian options are good. You might need to tweak it for your needs, but it does come the way you look for. My wife orders chicken and some sea food and it is always a quality food and an excellent taste. We also tried their vegetarian pizzas and calzone. I am not a big fan of calzone but you won't be disappointed with their calzone. Tiramisu as dessert is also nice and right on the mark. Wonderful food and satisfactory service. The only downside is space which is a crunch. It adds the pain in winter when you gotta wait to get seated. A little restaurant with an open kitchen, cozy bar and maybe 15 tables this restaurant is constantly bustling with people. The veal is unreal, huge portions and homemade pasta. Butternut squash ravioli is tremendous. Let's be honest all the food is great!! Even the peanut butter pie for dessert is a must. my then-fiance and mother had eaten at Cafe Assisi a few times, and very much enjoyed our experiences. the food is incredibly fresh and delicious, and service is attentive without being overbearing. having had such a good time before, we decided to have an important family dinner here, the night before our recent wedding. we were a party of 13, and pre-ordered some salads, appetizers, and desserts. we left the entree choice up to each individual person. Cafe Assisi was very accommodating to our reservation, and the service by Alma was impeccable. she was friendly, upbeat, and thorough, making sure our every need was met. all of the food was fantastic in quality, and our entrees all came out at the same time (not easy to do in that tiny kitchen for 13 people!). i know Cafe Assisi is small, but they did an incredible job of hosting our dinner, and i'm grateful they did. love, love, love this place for its wonderful fresh pasta, and all its tasty dishes. read more

I picked this place for lunch totally based on the yelp reviews. This place did not disappoint. My family is in love with this place. The portions are HUGE so maybe it's better for dinner than for lunch. There were plenty of tables available for lunch. We sat in the new section. Our server was very sweet and attentive. She made great recommendations too. We were four and we ordered the calzone, 2 salads, and lasagna -we got enough food for 6! She warned us that it would be a lot of food but I don't think there were any regrets! Be warned: almost all dishes have meat so it's not a vegetarian's best bet. My family raved about the sauce though. My family eats and cooks a lot of Italian food so that's saying something. The decor was cute. Nothing too stuffy or divey. They also sell what they make in the front too. I recommend this place to anyone especially those who eat meat. My family and I would totally go back except for we live in Illinois!! read more

I found this place on yelp while visiting the outlets and I didn't want to eat at the food court or at a chain restaurant. This place is down the street and was a great find. It's cute and small and had a small outside area, 3 tables. It was a nice day out so me and my husband got a seat outside. They had nice music playing and the staff was very friendly. We both got the corn chowder which was yum and a sopressata sandwhich. This was the half sandwhich and half soup lunch. The sandwhich was pretty big for me for a half size and I was stuffed after eating it. My husband probably could of eaten a large. Prices were good too. A nice find with good food. read more

The veal and pasta was tough and both were overdone. The dish was smothered in a tasteless sauce. These hot dishes arrived quickly and due to the poor execution the ingredients were leftovers from lunch. Mediterranean salad with shrimp was a disappointment as well. I picked this restaurant based on other Yelpers, so thanks for the head's up. I was meeting my friend around the Wrentham outlets and really was at a lost for where to go - Cracker Barrel and Uno's were just not going to cut it, so after reading the Yelp reviews for Cafe Assisi, I decided this looked like a good place to try. I was a little worried when I pulled up and saw how small the place is, but in the end it's small size is one of the things that makes this place so great. The place probably has about 10 tables inside and 4 outside (that they didn't seem to be using). The walls are lined with photos of family and friends, and the counter serves as the bar and take out place. Cafe Assisi definitely uses all their available space to the best of their ability. At 6pm on Wednesday there was a wait, and when I put my name in for a table, they promptly asked me if I would like a drink while I waited. This attention to the customers and details is what makes small places like this so much better than those big restaurants that don't care about each individual customer. The food was also fantastic. My friend and I ordered 2 dishes to split and a starter salad. The salad was just a regular salad, but the 2 pasta dishes were great. The bolognese dish had homemade pasta and crunchy carrots - a first for me. The other dish, broccoli rabe and sausage was just as yummy in its garlicness. I love finding these small, homey, and delicious places that surprise you, and I will definitely be back. read more

Wow, this place was out-friggin-standing. We stopped in here on Sunday evening on our way home from the Cape to meet a friend who lives in the area. When we got there we were surprised to find that it would be a 45-minute wait for our party of three, but luckily some seats opened up at the bar after only about 10-minutes. I ordered a Traditional Mojito while my friends had a couple of wine samples and eventually settled on a wine that they each liked. I only mention this because the bartender was extremely friendly and helpful with her suggestions and possible wine-meal pairings. I thought that my mojito was my only "disappointment" of the evening, but in reality it was pretty good. I have pretty high standards for mojitos and I thought this one was a little syrupy but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. For my meal, I ordered the Butternut Squash Ravioli with the light butter brown sage. Holy crap that meal was outstanding. I went in there thinking that I wasn't even hungry enough to finish more than an appetizer and instead I ended up finishing up my entire meal and wiping down my plate with the leftover bread until it was spotless. I couldn't have been happier with it. Overall, I would love to find an excuse to return to this area, because any excuse to return to this restaurant would be a good one. read more

By far, THE best Italian food within a 50 mile radius! My boyfriend and I were at the outlets and instead of going to Uno's, he googled places nearby and found this place. It had great reviews so we decided to check it out. This tiny place (about 3 booths and 4-5 tables) is adorable! They have a glass case filled with Italian favorites for takeout, which ill definitely do sometime! The waitress was very nice. I ordered the eggplant parm (which I always get because its amazing). SO good. Actually authentic tasting. A lot of places claim to have authentic italian. This place actually does it. And does it well. I can't wait to go back! read more

This is North End Italian in the suburbs! For anyone in southern MA and RI that loves great Italian and doesn't want the hassle of traveling into Boston, this is your place! I came here with my fiancé and brought my parents along while they were visiting from TN. Our first impression was that the place was a lot smaller than it looked in the pictures. This place is tiny and constantly crowded. I now understand why so many people order take out. To get a seat, the wait wasn't terrible (about an hour) and they offered to call my cell, so we burned some time down at the outlets. Once we got in and seated, the service was good (especially considering how busy it was) and we quickly figured out why this place is so busy: the food is AMAZING! We ordered a pizza and the special lobster ravioli to share around the table. The margarita pizza was light and fresh. Not too greasy with a nice thin crust and fresh basil that really makes it pop. The lobster ravioli was to die for! Nice chunks of lobster stuffed into perfectly cooked pasta in an amazing sauce. Definitely a must have dish! For dessert, my mother the chocoholic insisted on the "Death by Chocolate". This slice of cake is huge and rich! If you love chocolate, this is your dessert! We could barely get my mom to share! We had dinner here and a stray cat walked through the front door, into the dining area, and into the kitchen. Disgusted, I asked a server about it, and she joked that the cat worked there! Apparently, this cat comes and goes as it pleases in and out of the restaurant including the kitchen. They can keep the straggly cat, but they will not have me as a customer. I recently visited Assisi with my friend. It was for lunch. I strongly agree with what some of the other reviews said so I will not be Pete Repeat. But there are a few things I need to point out. The staff was so friendly and efficient. The portions were ample to say the least. The quality was out of this world. I had the Chicken masala. If I had a better one somewhere else I do not remember. The chicken breast was thick and tender. (My main complaint about chicken breasts) The Pasta Fagioli was also world class. My friend had chicken parm and one meatball. OUTSTANDING was all he said. I felt like I was in the North End of Boston or Arthur Ave in New York. This is must try place. Do yourself a favor and go! read more

Optimistic! First...dessert was SO GOOD! I'm not sure if they make it themselves, but it was delicious! We ordered a piece of the chocolate cake and the carrot cake (YUM!) Okey doke, the food was good too. I just wish I knew they use a lot of green peppers. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli and the peppers were really dominating. I'd order the dish again, but ask that the peppers be omitted. I'll probably try something new next time, but I'll still ask if there's peppers in it.
