Look there's a lot going on in the world right now. My partner was distracted and forgot their mask in the car before entering. Right when we walked in, the woman behind the counter was curt as she yelled at us "you need to wear a mask to enter, you need to wear a mask to enter!!" before even greeting us. Yes, wearing a mask is something that we all must do during a pandemic but it really was an oversight that was not done on purpose. A simple, "excuse me, can you please put on your mask before entering" would have landed better. The vibe felt super unfriendly to start and to add insult to injury, one of their friends came in and tightly hugged a staff member behind the counter. That staff member had gloves on and didn't put new gloves on after she was done hugging her friend. I mean, we all are just trying to do our best in a world filled with so much uncertainty . This is our second time coming in here and the vibe has always felt unfriendly, which is really disappointing especially since the drinks are good and the setting is nice. read more

There was a dearth of good coffee shops in the small town of Guerneville, where we were staying for a weekend getaway, so we decided to drive on to the coast and prayed that we'd stumble upon a coffee shop that brews a good cup of joe. The coffee gods answered our prayers! In the small town of Jenner we came across Cafe Aquatica. It's right next to the river, and the cafe has a stage out there for live music and lots of seating for customers. We ordered the drip which was quite good. No bitterness and very drinkable without cream and sugar, which is how I like to drink my coffee. Not a bad price either and they gave the hubby a discount for his second cup. They sell their coffee beans here as well. $10 for 10 ounces. We shared a cinnamon roll, and I ended up ordering their smoked salmon sandwich. The cinnamon roll was good. The sandwich had a little too much greens. I ended up having to take out most of it so I can bite into it. I also wish they had put a little more smoked salmon in there. No wifi and no cellular signal at all in this area of Jenner. You will not be able to check in or make a call from this part of Highway 116. All in all, it's good to know this coffee shop serves good coffee. Next time we're driving up the coast, we'll definitely return if we're needing coffee. read more

The scones were so good we went back for seconds. Brunch menu was off-the-hook. My pour-over coffee tasted Louisisana-style with chicory, though their menu mentioned nothing of it. I was excited to go back for lunch, but it was not in the cards. This place is so good, it's worth the drive from Central Marin to hangout and hear live music in the warmer months. I went there Friday and ordered lunch and drinks. My tea was not consumable. Others in my party also confirmed it's poor taste. When I politely asked to exchange it for a regular tea the staff was very rude and demeaning. Whenever I get close to a coast, I get a serious hankering for clam chowder. I'm not sure what it is. Back when I was an actual vegetarian, it's what I missed the most while on a coastal trip. When I knew we were getting close to the coast, I did a quick Yelp search for chowder and this place came to the top of the list. The tiny town of Jenner didn't seem to have cell service, so it was lucky that this place was so easy to spot off of the PCH. The outdoor seating looked appealing in the photos online but not-so-much when it was pouring rain. Next time, I suppose! The clam chowder was quite possibly some of the best I've ever had. If you're a fan of thick, creamy chowder, then this may not be your jam. I'm a fan of runny chowder broth, however, and given that they make their chowder gluten free, this is exactly what I got. Loaded with big pieces of clam and lots of herbs and topped with buttery homemade croutons (or not, for the GF). Because outdoor seating was out of the question, we sat inside and it was....interesting. I kind of felt like I was in the Women and Women First bookstore in Portlandia, only in coffee shop form. A slower pace, if you will. I was mostly done with my soup before husband had his sandwich. And towards the end of our meal, the music suddenly got louder and made me want to invoke my inner goddess (or something. I would have Shazam-ed that if my phone had service). The girl working did not make an effort to make customer connections. 5 Star Cafe? Yup. Everything here is local, from the coffee (its roasted locally), to all the pastries. And there is no better setting on the coast to stop for a spell. i have a friend who is a yogi/masseuse in Point Arena (Mendocino), and i head up for long weekends from SF to re-energize. I rarely miss a chance to stop at Cafe Aquatica either on the way up, or back if I'm heading down in the morning. I often don't even get coffee in SF so i can hold off to stop here. This is a very cute place. It is open from 8-4 (not 4-8 as another review mentioned). Their clam chowder is generously seasoned and was quite enjoyable to eat on the grassy area overlooking the Russian River. There is indoor seating, wind-protected outdoor seating and picnic benches and chairs on a grassy area with a fantastic view. The service was very personable and time just kind of slows down there. It was very relaxing and cozy. Our food was brought to us outside even though there was only one person working. Will definitely be coming back here next time we are in town. We stayed at a nearby inn a couple of days in Jenner, CA, and we were blessed to find this cafe with wonderful food and treats across from our local stay. It's right off the Highway 1 so you can also make a pit stop on your way north towards Fort Bragg or if you're headed south or back towards the Russian River towards the east on Highway 116. There's limited parking right near the cafe but there's also a state or county park next to the wine bar and gift shop where you can stop by. Over two days we got to enjoy a few things including the salmon salad, clam chowder, crab sandwich (not pictured) as well as avocado toast, fresh ground coffee, and earl grey cookies. The rainbow salmon salad was refreshing and the salmon was fresh and smokey. The clam chowder definitely stole the show, we never had it as creamy and full of clams as it was and ordered it twice over our stay. And the crab sandwich for dinner was also fresh and hearty with arugula as well. The first time we were in line during the late afternoon we overheard gentlemen ordering sad about no remaining earl grey cookies and we made sure to order them the following morning they were amazing. I wish we had ordered some to-go and take with us home. There's plenty of outdoor seating, so on a warm day be sure to bring your hat or wear your sunscreen. The place was well decorated for a nice roadside stop with great views of the Russian River. Food was very good. We had the Granola Yogurt bowl and Poached Eggs on toast . One of the woman behind the counter was rude though. Yelling at my wife to put her mask on . We had already been inside to order. We ate outside and then returned inside to purchased some merchandise. My wife forgot to mask up as we came back in to be greeted by a rude hostess. She had dark hair and many arm tattoos. I expect that a lower tone and a please put your mask on would have been more appropriate. This wonderful stop up hwy 101 offers spectacular views of the Russian River as it flows into the Pacific Ocean, a barista that takes pride in ever cup of coffee that he turns out, and food that is reasonably priced and tastes really good to boot. After a couple of double expresso's, always ready for whatever the coast has to offer. Great place, with great views, a coast treasure. On the left side of hwy as you head north up hwy 101, just as you enter Jenner, just before the post office. So sit down outside, sit and relax and watch the river flow to the sea. read more

This review is a bit late, but I must write it because of the beautiful experience we had there. My boyfriend and I went on a spontaneous weekend trip up the northern California coast at the end of August. After a long night sleeping in our car on the side of the highway, we desperately needed some coffee to start our day. We stopped at Jenner initially just to fill up on gas, but this cafe's quirky, artistic sign immediately caught my attention. There wasn't a lot of parking in front of the place, but that just added to the "locals only", tucked-away beauty of this place. The small cafe offers sandwiches, cookies and pastries, and coffee of course. The inside can't have been bigger than my living room, but the real beauty is the wooden outdoor patio which overlooks the Jenner Gulch of the Russian River. We sat at a table facing the river, sipping our latte, listening to a local musician singing country blues, and watching the morning fog slowly roll over the mouth of the river. We went away for the weekend searching for hidden gems, and we found one here at the Cafe Aquatica. read more

what an amazing find. Stopped by here for a while on my way up for a weekend camping on the Sonoma coast. They have fantastic pour-over coffee, amazing baked goods, and a laid back, comfortable atmosphere. There was a band playing bluegrass, and we played a game of chess on the table in the cafe. For people coming from the big city, this isn't a coffee shop like you'd find in the Mission. This is a small town small business, a place where locals come to gossip and folks passing through stop to chat. This is a cute cafe where you wouldn't expect with riverfront views and a pleasant atmosphere to spend a few hours on a warm afternoon. The menu is good enough to be competitive in a big city, but the quaintness of it being so far removed from the hustle and bustle of the bay area makes it even more charming and delightful to visit. The cafe Aquatica and Jenner the city itself was such an eye-opening discovery. This ranks hands down as one of my favorite cafes given both the wonderful location, the unexpected quality of the drinks and food, and the friendly atmosphere of the staff and the town itself. read more

This is a great place to stop for a breather and stretch out your legs after a long drive on the 1. The landscape is so beautiful and serene I could feel all my stress floating away as I lounged in one of the many waterfront chairs outside and took in the view-- that is, until I took a sip of my chai latte and my paradise was shattered. I regret to say that the chai here is not very good at all, which was a bit disappointing considering how I was here in the fall and the weather outside was chilly (this is an outdoor cafe). Got over it though. How could I not with that view in front of me? Part of the fun of driving up the coast on California's Highway 1 is discovering all the little surprises like Aquatica along the way. Aquatica is a funky little cafe in the town of Jenner (population 250). The city sits just north of where Highway 116 ends on Highway 1 at the tailwaters of the Russian River as it empties into the ocean. Aquatica gives you a front row seat to the scenery with seating on the outdoor patio, the lawn, and a small deck that nearly touches the water. Inside you'll find some very friendly people with a small (cash only) menu of coffee, breakfast, sandwiches, and a few other simple items. I went with a simple grilled cheese sandwich and a bowl of clam chowder. The sandwich was simple--maybe a little too much so--but very tasty. The chowder was chock-full of chowdery goodness. Celery, carrots, plenty of clam and made fresh each day with all organic ingredients. After we ate we sat on the deck and just watched the kayakers paddle up and down the river, and soaked up some sun. Very good food, but add the setting and you get a perfect little spot for lunch. read more

I find myself in Jenner quite a bit more often than the average San Francisco resident.... or at least that's my guess. For whatever reason, Jenner is on my regular list of destinations, either as a place to go on a day trip or to spend a long weekend in one of its amazing little vacation rentals. And in a town of not very many people and not much else, Cafe Aquatica is more than enough reason to find yourself in Jenner. On a sunny day, sit outside by the Russian River, in view of Goat Rock beach, and enjoy a delicious freshly-made sandwich and a coffee. If you're lucky, get there right as they take the chocolate chip cookies out of the oven and melt into cookie bliss. The ONLY downfall is that sometimes, when there is the perfect alignment of good weather, a Saturday, and lunch time, you might wait a loooooooooooong time before your sandwich is ready. Because often there is only one person behind the counter, and since they make every sandwich fresh, if there are a few groups ahead of you in line... well, go grab a chair in the sun outside and practice your patience. This is a little cafe in Jenner CA where the Russian River flows into the Pacific Ocean. What a GEM !!! The view also is spectacular. I ordered the dungeness crab sandwich, which had greens, avocado and a really tasty, light spread on home baked ciabatta bread. It was the BEST sandwich I've ever eaten! The crab was fresh and the serving generous. I honestly couldn't believe how good it was. The chai tea was also really good. It was difficult to decide what to finish this meal with, as all of the homemade baked goods looked fantastic. I chose the chocolate biscotti and it also was the best I'd ever had. The staff, two girls and Aron, the owner were very nice and accommodating. The guy from Scottsdale who reviewed Aquatica must have either had an off day, no taste, or perhaps (but unlikely) the cafe had an off day. I don't get his review. I look forward to my next trip to that area and eating at Aquatica again; and I highly recommend this little cafe. read more

It was well past coffee drinking time when we came upon this little gem while on a drive along HWY 1. Small shop, not much seating inside, but that's ok, the real treat is to sit outside and admire the view while drinking your coffee. We had three different coffee drinks: capachinno, mocha cacao, and a regular coffee. Placed the order inside then went out on the deck while we waited for them to be fixed, as there was a few orders in front of ours. They have a window opening to the outside area. Our drinks were up within a very short amount of time. Coffees were excellent. We sat on the raised deck overlooking the mouth of the Russian River flow into the ocean. Watched kayakers, otters, ducks & people while sipping our java. A most relaxing stop. Note that they accept cash only. One of the very best Coffee Houses on the coast. Expertly roasted Fair Trade coffee. Artisonal pastries with gluten free options. Their Macaroons are among the best in the Bay Area. Nice snacks. The Avocado Toast and Lox Bagel are simply splendid. Location, location, location. The best view of any in the area whether you like nature show or water craft gliding by. If it's cold outside, they have a small but cute (we'll heated) indoor dining room with all the local rags and trade magazines. read more

I think the staff here could be more friendly, whomever was in charge of the kitchen at least. The man in the morning was very sweet when we bought a cappuccino. After a 3 hour hike we were famished and thirsty and stopped back in for crab rolls. We then asked for a glass of water and were charged a quarter for the cup by the woman. It was such a disappointment after we left a huge tip for cappuccino and the lunch. A local gem! Don't miss it when in the area...homemade breads, scones, and thick, warm, luscious clam chowder. The Dungeness Crab sandwich is amazing -- big chunks of crab & fresh bread. They don't serve alcohol, but you can go across the street to the gas station to buy beer & bring it back for dining. The outdoor picnic tables and lawn chairs are perfect for sipping coffee, slurping chowder, and/or scarfing down a hefty sandwich while gazing upon the ocean, scouting seals, or waving to kayakers.
