Million dollar views don't come cheap or easy. Outrageously priced Cafe food. Ordered 2 items. 1. Smoked Salmon Roll - $12 2. Clam Chowder - $9 Smoked salmon meat portion covered less than half of the roll. Very disappointed with the incredibly small meat portion. Claim Chowder was more of a "watery stew". I added croutons which are really cubed bread pieces, not toasted. Stew, though different, was good. Ambiance was part Yuppy, part Karen. Men all donned pastel colored shorts, aviator sunglasses. One particular Karen challenged me for my order when I came to window to pick up, despite with my flashing/vibrating buzzer going off in hand. A second Karen bullied her way in front of me at condiment bar. She did apologize after she realized I happened to be mid stream in getting my condiments together. For some reason the salt shaker is actually in an Italian pepper dispenser and thus pours out gobs of salt out of those giant holes, like something you might buy from Costco made to cook in huge quantities. We ordered drip coffee. When we got the coffee it was cold. When we asked to get a hot cup we were told there's no way to heat it up and just stared at blankly. If you're going to charge $4 for a small cup of coffee it should be hot. On the plus side, it's a beautiful location right on the river. read more

The coffee is excellent, the food is simple and fresh, and the view brings me back. We stopped by on Monday and took a close look at the incredibly detailed paintings by Molly Kars that filled the gallery space. They captured our full attention and we spent some time fingering through the prints for sale before we even made it to the menu. To eat we had the Portobello pesto sandwich (no pesto if you want it vegan) and the rainbow sandwich. They both came on focaccia bread with a side of pickles and id buy those pickles by the jar if they sold them. The day was sunshine and gorgeous. The outdoor seating was full but it didn't feel crowded. The staff were so friendly and quick. We got an iced oat milk latte and an espresso and both were excellent. We got a huge vegan coconut macaroon for dessert. It was dipped in chocolate. The shops nearby are cute and the port-a-potty bathroom is in the parking lot next door. There's a hand washing sink on the outdoor patio of the restaurant which was clutch since they don't have their own bathroom. Parking is limited so be ready to cooperate. read more

As I walked down from the rolling green hills of the Jenner highlands and entered my Honda CR-Chill I could never have imagined where the wind would blow my pirate ship full of hungry egalitarians. As we came down towards jennet I heard trip/rock/heady/folk/Edm playing from a local grotto. We pulled off the road and saw this grotto served treats. The crab sandwich combined with the music and a delicious coffee led to an unforgettable vibe. It's exactly what I would expect for hwy 1 roadside counter service food...mediocre, overpriced, minimal selection (with an emphasis on boring, hippy food in a Big Sur type of way), baaaaaarely so-so service. The bagel tasted very Costco-esque. The crab roll was absolutely forgettable and not worth the calories; the 5 pickle slices were the best part of the $25-30ish I spent. They do have water and cups freely available though, so yay for that. Would pass by next time though. read more

Let's be honest, the real reason I wanted to eat here was because of that gorgeous view of the Russian River flowing into the Pacific Ocean! It didn't disappoint!! The location is phenomenal and I recommend it to everyone, it's a vibe. Unfortunately there weren't many great food options on the menu. We ended up getting Dungeness crab rolls, which were one of the few actual meals the cafe serves. It was good, but they didn't have much flavor. We also got mocha macchiatos and they really were what we needed after a long drive, tasty and strong with homemade whip! One thing I really liked about their food is almost everything (or everything?) is made fresh and in-house from scratch! After a good workout walking on the beach I was hungry. My mom and I stopped and got a bit of everything. Clam chowder, check, Crab sandwich, check, pesto Portobello sandwich, check. This place made me discover the town of Jenner instead of the other way around. We were driving through and stopped for gas, look over and see a live acoustic performance against the most beautiful backdrop you've ever seen. Tried their coffee and it was perfect, housemade flavors and all. So I got their clam chowder and it was incredible, second only to a very delicious bowl I had in the Seattle Public Market. We ended up coming back to vacation in Jenner JUST so we could revisit this place and explore more. Now we simply have to stop by anytime we're marginally close by. My only previous visit to Cafe Aquatica was in December 2017. My second visit to Cafe Aquatica was on May 31, 2019 and my third visit was the next day (June 1, 2019). On May 31st, we had coffee at Duncan's Mills and admired the dozens of swallow's nests built under a roof near the railroad station, and then we took a 6-mile hike on nearby RED HILL. Cafe Aquatica was on my "must-do" list, and right after the morning's hike, we stopped at Cafe Aquatica. Each cup of coffee is individually brewed with its own dedicated conical filter. This way of preparing your order of coffee is a treat to the eye. AIOLI AND EGG STORY. In addition to the fresh-brewed coffee, I ordered focaccia bread with aioli and two poached eggs. The shape of the aioli leaves is a delight to behold, because the leaves are like tiny objects of art. The eggs are somewhat like the eggs used for making bibimbap, in that the white part is cooked and the yellow part is hot but still liquid. Using a fork, I mixed the aioli with the eggs in order to disperse the yellow part over the aioli leaves. MY SOUVENIR FETISH. Then, we sat outside and I gazed at the mists hovering over the mouth of the Russian River. The result was this: Yet another all-time-great-memory to love and to cherish. Typically, when I explore new travel spots, I buy souvenir caps, souvenir T-shirts, and souvenir cloth patches. And so, I bought a Cafe Aquatica T-shirt. After spending the night at Ocean Cove to the north, we returned to the Russian River and again stopped at Cafe Aquatica for (you'll never guess) fresh-brewed coffee and another meal of focaccia with aioli and poached eggs. MUSIC STORY. During our lunch on June 1, 2019, a musician was performing on the patio, playing classical guitar. The fingers of his right hand seemed to be doing a little jig, as they traveled from string to string to string, engaging in accurate plucking. This time I noticed that the sound system inside of Cafe Aquatica was playing something by Tears for Fears. "Isn't that Tears for Fears?" I asked the server. Jenner is both the last name of the world's most famous Olympic decathlete-turned-transsexual and a hamlet on Highway 1 north of Bodega Bay near the mouth of the Russian River. Since the Kardashians are not making an appearance in this review, I must be writing about the latter which indeed I am. There are only 136 residents in this unincorporated town, and that was probably the reason why the minute Jamie W. and I arrived, it felt like we were leaving already. We were taking a leisurely drive on State Highway 116 from Guerneville just to see where the day was going to take us. The cafe is right off the highway, and yes, it is a charmer of a place with a gift store next door selling local souvenirs and seashells (photo: http://bit.ly/2nNopZw). Beautiful weather greatly enhances the appeal of this spot because it overlooks Penny Island and the last of the Russian River before it becomes the Pacific. We moved ourselves to the inviting Adirondack chairs to close our eyes and listen to the Spanish-inflected music. They serve from scratch local, organic food here at breakfast and lunch, mainly sandwiches, salads and their famous clam chowder. Housemade cookies and scones are in a display case at the order counter. Even the little dining area looked cozy. It's a most worthy stop on a day trip from the city. Excellent coffee and beautiful location. Parking can be tricky. The clam chowder was thin & the yogurt parfait was more topping than it was yogurt. Great avocado toast. There was live music going during our visit which was nice. I really appreciated the dog-friendly vibes but I wish that the employees were more attentive when there's clearly a reactive/aggressive dog on their premises causing issues with other patrons. Upon arrival there was two smaller dogs who got into it as a seemingly intoxicated woman had their clearly untrained and reactive dog with them & paid them no mind. Thankfully the Jack Russell appeared to be fine afterwards. This same dog then later proceeded to attack/lunge at my dog when I was simply trying to grab a seat behind them. I want to note that this dog was *loud*, everyone saw what was going on & nobody did a thing! This same dog then proceeded to charge towards my dog, and any others anytime they came near it. I understand that they are not totally in control in situations like this, but myself and other patrons were made very uncomfortable by her dog. They could have said something! I witnessed a lot of people completely avoid her area due to her unruly dog. She went as far as to actually take the water bowl y'all have set out for all of dogs, but given that her dog is reactive - it came *her* water bowl. Again, this same dog continued to cause an absolute scene & the employees never intervened or offered to alleviate this completely avoidable situation. I was never apologized to, nor was I acknowledged. When you welcome dog owners to your establishment, there should be some sort of involvement on the businesses end so everyone has a decent time. But this has honestly put a bad taste in my mouth about coming back. read more

I love this venue more than I can express! I have been here at least a dozen times. The chowder is the best you're going to find in any 75 mile perimeter, as far as I'm concerned. The broth is light and so flavorful, the clams are sliced razor thin, which makes them so crumbly delicate and the potatoes are cut into perfect soft bite-size chunks. Don't pass on topping your chowder with thr homemade focaccia croutons because they really make the chowder complete- so dang good!! Their coffees are excellent and their Golden Milk is a hand's down regular for me. It's just perfect. The crab sandwiches are fantastic as well as their salads. If they have the miso, chocolate chip cookie, don't you dare pass on it - is the perfect combination of salty, sweet buttery decadence (it's large so you can share with another). Service is so polite (your meals are pass-through window, so be prepared) and the outdoor ambience is breathtaking right along the inlet where the ocean meets the river. On clear weather Saturdays and Sundays there's live performers that sing their acoustic songs on the deck's edge with such heart - every time I have been, there are amazing live performers (with the exception of one day when it was raining.) The artist that performs on the last Sunday of the month is such a treat - lovers beware, you'll find yourself snuggling up together while she sings her beautiful relatable songs. You can bring your pup and littles, too... so cute seeing all the little furry friends that accompany their owners. Very friendly, peaceful and chill vibe. Kayakers will paddle by and pause to listen to the songs of the talented local performers. If you're lucky, you'll get to see a massive flock of pelicans fly overhead. It literally feels like you're in a dream when you're listening to the music, looking upon the waters, gentle clouds passing overhead while enjoying the yummiest of chowders and beverages. A complete jewel to experience and enjoy, on every level. PS: Never hurts to bring cash. While you can generally pay via debit/credit card (90% of the time) because their location is a bit remote, their scanners may be down and it's possible you'll only be able to pay with cash. Sometimes you can run across the street to the gas station and use their ATM, or pick up some cash in Duncans Mills on the way in. read more

We got the social distancing place of honor at Café Aquatica to enjoy morning coffee and the beautiful view of the Russian River. We were just planning for coffee, but when we saw the breakfast special of crab, poached egg, and arugula on focaccia, we had to give it a try. With 2 pieces of focaccia, two eggs, and tons of crab, it was perfect for sharing - suddenly the $20 price tag seemed quite reasonable! We shared a cherry chocolate chip scone as well, very yummy. Their golden milk latte with oatmilk was so incredibly delicious. Scenic spot, great food and drink, ample outdoor space for social distancing - it really couldn't have been more perfect. read more

Driving through from out of of town this morning, we saw the pride flag (‍) hanging outside and thought we would stop in and support a small business. We went inside and immediately the woman behind the counter said loudly, "You need to have a mask on to come in here." Without so much as a hello it felt a little rude but I said sorry, rushed my teens outside, got masks from our suitcases and went back inside and up to the counter. The woman (reddish hair and glasses, didn't look at her name tag) was still annoyed seeming but I made sure to thank her a bunch to try to turn the mood around. We ordered a tea and a latte and went outside to wait. (Very nice outdoor seating area and view! Beautiful!) The woman called out my name letting us know our drinks were ready and after she handed me mine without a hot drink sleeve, I said "Thank you, oh could I have a-" and she didn't respond, spun around and walked away. I mean I know it's harder to hear things with the masks on, but she definitely heard me. I was a little offended with the bad attitude so we just took our drinks and left, it wasn't until a minute later when we got to the street that my daughter told me her drink lid wasn't on and that her drink was too hot to hold. I took it her from her and her tea was way too hot and her lid was defective and wouldn't stay on. (Something I think the barista should have noticed when she tried to put it on.) All together not a great experience at what seemed like a cool little place. Maybe she was having a bad day and saw out-of-towners as easy targets? My husband and I stopped here during a quick weekend get-away and absolutely fell in love with the spot! If I lived in the area, I'd be here every weekend to hangout. We were lucky enough to hear some delightful live music, and had some gorgeous weather to enjoy from the enclosed patio. We had already had lunch so we didn't get a chance to order food, but we did get some cafe drinks to enjoy and were pleasantly surprised by how reasonably priced they were, considering the location and view, and how well they were brewed! The parking situation is a bit tight depending on how busy it is, so we had to wait a few minutes for a spot up the road, but it is free, which is a nice perk! Overall we highly recommend and will make it a point to visit next time we are in the area! read more

We ordered clam chowder and a portobello sandwich. The clam chowder was very good. The clams were delicious, the potatoes were diced, so they were easier to eat, and the soup was hot, hot, hot, and I love that they let you add croutons. My two gripes about the soup: It was too thin. When I get clam chowder I want a thick soup, and there version, though tasty, was watered down too much. The price is also a little steep for the small bowl of soup that you get. The portobello sandwich was amazing. It is served on foccacia bread which I could by itself and be happy, and all the fresh veggies on the sandwich and the portobello itself just made for a very refreshing meal. This spot is very special. It's a peaceful place tucked into a little notch, by the Russian river. It's not a big place and it's not a place to be loud and obnoxious. It's charming, friendly and cute. It's right on the riverside. You can order fresh roasted coffee or make it a latte. Oder organic spring mix salad with beets or go for the crab meat on a delicious piece of bread baked locally. Get a new mug and take the coffee beans home. You take a few mins to find a seat outside or on the riverside and listen to the band playing music. Bohemian style in the sun. Sing along or just kick back and watch the pelicans diving for fish.
