Bottom Line Up Front: Cafe 86 is the go-to spot if you love Filipino-inspired desserts and beverages -- and don't mind paying a premium for them. The Food: We got the Ube Butter Bar, Ube Pop Tart, and Milo Cupcake. The bar was sorta like a brownie but instead of chocolate it's made of ube (purple yam), which was moist, sweet but not too sweet, and absolutely delicious. All that goodness was supported by a firm but soft crumb of some sort. Shockingly, the Ube pop tart was subpar. The crust was dry and bland while the Ube filling wasn't enough to salvage the dessert. The Milo Cupcake -- which features a cake base mixed with the chocolate malt powder from Nestle and topped with condensed milk icing -- was a satisfying snack. The cake was moist and the Milo taste was noticeable but not overpowering, balanced out by the sweet icing. The Drinks: My wife got the Jasmine Calamansi tea. She enjoyed it thoroughly, largely because she enjoys Jasmine tea and Calamansi (an Asian citrus) juice, so it was practically tailor made for her. I'm not big on either, but I thought this drink was a solid choice. The Service: Everyone who works there is top notch: fast, friendly, and knowledgeable. The Setting: It's located in the corner of a large strip mall. You won't be able to spot it from the street, so just pull into the parking lot and head to the northeast corner. There's usually plenty of parking. The Interior: The cafe itself is narrow but long, so there's always ample seating whenever I visit. Every table has an outlet, making it convenient for students who want to stay around to study. The walls have murals, and everything is intentional and nicely decorated. The Price: I would have given this place a perfect 5 out of 5 were it not for the higher-than-normal prices and the mediocre Ube pop tart. I stumbled upon this place during their grand opening but I had my dog with me so it wasn't worth waiting around for. That was two months ago! Today I had to wait a bit for the rest of my party and was glad to see a steady constant flow of business. I think there were 3 employees working so orders were coming out in a timely manner. They were also so pretty and nice and patient. Their milk teas all have fun names but their menu offers no description of what the item is, which means the employees spent a lot of repetitive time answering questions. I got a pandan matcha with almond milk (which I don't recommend. I think it really needed the sugar of a whole fat milk) but they also had soy and oat options at no extra charge. My family got the oreo thai milkshake (delicious) and two halo halos. The portions on those were huge! They do offer a mini size too, but for the price its probably worth it to just get the regular and share with someone. This is a more palatable Americanized halo halo with fruit jellies, boba, corn flakes, and ice cream toppings and no beans nor fruit. We also got a churrochi which was like a sweet mochi pancake pressed in a panini maker and tossed with cinnamon sugar and caramel drizzle. It was sooo good. Served hot and we added a scoop of ice cream on the side. Crunchy outsides and soft chewy insides. The venue also offers ample seating and each table has a surge protector AND 4 USB charging ports. Their wall art says to "stay awhile" and they make the space really comfortable to do just that. This place is really slow but you know what? Quality here is quite good. We know cafe 86 is all about ube. Ube cupcake, ube truffles, ube cheesecake and more. But we were here for drinks. Other type of drinks. We had milo milk tea (not our favorite, their calamansi juice, hibiscus calamansi, ube matcha latte (ok we had to order one). We went opening weekend and it was good seeing locals supporting the business. Inside seating is a little limited. A couch, some chairs, few tables. I don't think it sits more than 20. The bathroom is clean. Oh we did get a ube cupcake. Definitely fresh but a tad small. It was good But not delicious. Overall a great place for drinks, unwind and support local. Better buzz is also in the same plaza so definitely options. read more

I love Café 86! And now that it's in Orange County it's going to be super dangerous for me to control myself. I went there around 6-7 on a Sunday and there wasn't a lot of people. I think they were close to closing. They're located in the corner of the same complex as Better Buzz. The inside was super cute and clean. And the workers were very nice. You can order with them or at the kiosk. I went there for their Ube cupcake with flan on top but they ran out!!! Hence the 4 stars. Instead I ordered the Milo Cupcake. Which was tasty and moist. It was about $5. To drink I got their calamasi Jasmine tea 1/2 sweet and it was so good! I love my teas strong and this one had a strong Jasmine flavor with a hint of calamasi. I'd definitely order this one again. Lastly, we got their ube poptart. It was bland and I didn't like their shortcake texture like dessert. I wouldn't order this one again. I love me some Ube and supporting Asian-owned stores. I am so grateful I don't have to drive far anymore to Cafe 86. It's a small space but they have ~4 tables with some usb/outlets on them if you want to do some work there. Location? tucked in a corner where Better Buzzed is. Parking isn't crazy bad because there's not a lot of restaurants in that plaza. Drinks - Their peach mango tea was actually really good and you can definitely taste the flavors and not have that overly sweet flavor to it. Desserts - they sold out half of their desserts but I would love to try their Ube tres leches next time. Their Ube cupcake with flan was still a great choice though and was moist. I LOVE their upside down halo-halo. Service - they were busy but quick. Their workers were all working hard to make everyone's orders. Janna at the front was so sweet and very personable even when she was so busy with so many customers. Water, utensils, napkins are self serve up at the front. Came here for lunch since I work nearby. They list just three sandwiches: grilled cheese, pastrami, and pesto. This place is mainly for desserts and drinks. It does takes some time for the sandwiches to be ready, but for its price and portion size for the area, it is great. The atmosphere was incredibly cozy and inviting. Plenty of tables where you can comfortably relax and hang out, with convenient outlets available at each table if you need them. The thoughtful decor, with cute Filipino-inspired touches, made the space feel even more special and welcoming. Customer service was excellent--especially for a busy Friday night. Staff was friendly and genuinely helpful, taking the time to answer all of our menu questions with enthusiasm. The owner was also incredibly warm and easy to talk to. I love supporting local businesses, especially when they're run by people with so much heart and passion behind what they do. We ordered the new matcha pandan iced latte and the signature upside-down halo-halo and ube truffles baked good, and both drinks were delicious without being overly sweet. The upside-down halo-halo was rich and creamy, and the addition of crunchy flakes, flan, boba, and jellies elevated both the texture and flavor. The matcha pandan was my favorite it perfectly captured the earthy, savory umami of matcha paired with the nutty notes of pandan. The ube truffles was so moist, not overly sweet and had just enough perfect crispy exterior. So excited for this new location and can't wait to see how they continue to grow and improve. Wow a dream come true, Cafe 86 has arrived in Placentia! My cousin brought me to their Artesia location years ago and ever since, it's been one of my favorite places specifically for their Ube Monster with boba and their Ube Truffles. My sister and I came to their grand opening around 4pm on Saturday 1/24 and although the line was long, it didn't wrap around the building hours prior as seen on instagram. While waiting, it was awesome that they had a really great DJ blasting tunes beginning with Usher, Lil Jon, Ja Rule (the classics from the 2000s) to later shifting to Earth, Wind, & Fire, The Jackson 5, YMCA, and even fun Tagalog songs like Otso Otso! It was a vibe! Definitely was fun dancing along to other guests in line and just jamming together. I literally felt like I was at someone's debut haha! It made the wait fun and by the time we knew it, it was our time to order. We got the Ube Monster and Matcha Monster with boba then the Calamansi Juice for drinks. For baked goods, we tried the Milo Cupcakes, Turon Poptart, and Ube Truffles. Whenever businesses have a grand opening or special promotion, I always get adamant and question how the quality of the drinks will be due to a large volume of customers plus the speed in which they come out. However, after one sip of my Ube Monster, it was perfect! Whoever created that ratio has it spot on because it was amazing! We were even a free drink voucher for our next visit and we can't wait to return again soon! As for the baked goods, the Milo cupcake really impressed me! It has a whipped topping (which I totally prefer in comparison to frosting) and the cake itself was nice and moist, not dry, and not too sweet. Definitely getting more of those again! The turon pop tart was cool to try as it had some jackfruit in there too and the icing on top gave it a nice touch of sweetness but wasn't overpowering. Then of course the star of the show, the Ube Truffles were a 10/10 as per usual! Haha such great texture to sink your teeth into and love that outer shell of Oreos. Delicious! I drove up from San Diego to visit friends and they took me to this location. I was really impressed with the layout of the place. By far, it's one of the biggest Cafe 86 locations I have ever seen. Furthermore, I like how accommodating the place is. There are plenty of spaces for you to sit with power sources provided. Perfect for studying! Lastly, I would like to show my appreciation for the mural that really brings the place to life. It really shows how much the owners of this place care about customer hospitality! It really feels like you can escape reality, even if it's just for a little bit! Now for the food: When I went for the first time, service was a little slow. However I was told later that this place barely opened, so that's understandable. For my first time, I ordered this dessert called Churrochi, and let me just say, it was worth the 15-20 minute wait! To all fellow Foodies, I highly recommend this place if you want the best Filipino based desserts! The drinks are equally delicious as well! To top it all off, the staff that make this place operate are amazing! Orders can be slow sometimes, but they make it perfectly and with a lot of thought into it. The drinks didn't take too long as we came at a less busier time! I ordered both a regular sized halo halo and ube monster milkshake for my sister. They made the shake a small, but we were both certain we ordered a regular, but they remade it so its okay! In my opinion, we both thought the drinks were way too sweet, the ube tasted very artificial, like it came from a powder. We got 2 ube truffles, and an ube crinkle cookie. the cookie was very good!! The truffles were also in my opinion way too sweet, and too rich, also came very cold, almost hurt my teeth when biting it. I tried to go on opening weekend but the lines were too long so today I was excited to get to try this place. Being that they just opened, I can understand service may not be up to par so here are a few things I hope they can work on: 1. Service was friendly but slow. 2. Hibiscus calamansi drink tasted watered down so that was disappointing. 3. This was the biggest disappointing for me...They ran out of ube butter bar in the display but cashier told me they have it in the back - they just brought it out. I ordered it thinking it was a fresh batch. When I picked it up, it was frozen. She said it just came out of the freezer so it was frozen hard! She suggested I heat it up when I get home. I wish she would have told me it was gonna be frozen because I would not have bought it. I wanted something to eat now, not to take home and reheat. Me and my friends went today for the grand opening event. We got there around 1:30 p.m. and were about 120th in line. The first 140 people would receive a free tote, a drink (the tickets we were given said either a house milk tea or calamansi juice cooler), and a free drink voucher for returning customers. Please note that this reflects specifically what I experienced today and can change within the next couple weeks. Customer Service/Management: (3/5) Personally, I think that there could've been a lot of things done differently. The grand opening was set to start at 2 p.m. and during the wait, they would offer water and later on cookies. My friends and I noticed that almost every worker was holding a drink of their own and some would bring/invite their friends inside in which they would "cut the line." This established a sense of unprofessionalism / exclusivity and as this was their opening event, it definitely didn't leave a good impression. Not only this, but it shows that they care less about the customers who had been waiting since opening. I think that they should've done a soft opening with friends and family separately to avoid contributing to the already long line (it wrapped around the building). As we were waiting, we also saw customers leaving with a variety of different drinks despite the disclaimer written on the tickets. I for one, was excited to try the thai tea. When we got closer to the entrance, we were given our free tote bags. We overheard that they had run out of tote bags shortly after and some customers who were part of the first 140 were disappointed. Some of the workers didn't seem to know much about the workplace as when asked about what time the cafe closed, they had to ask others. We entered the cafe to order our drinks at 4:30 p.m. It was then that the person taking orders had a shift change. When prompted about the previous customers being able to choose their own drinks, the worker was confused and had to talk to management. She told us that from this point on we were limited to the 2 options which I thought wasn't fair to everyone else who had been waiting. I also noticed a lot of the workers were outside talking to their friends or sitting outside. I figured this was due to there being not a lot of room in the kitchen/back area, but when I entered the establishment I figured this wasn't the case. When we entered, there was only one person taking orders. There were about 5 people in the front and a couple in the back but definitely could've had more workers actually helping. I think that this combined with the confusion in regard to what drinks people could order is what caused the wait time to be excessively long. Overall, I think that they weren't prepared or didn't prepare enough for this kind of event. I was pretty disappointed but hopefully when I return, these problems won't persist. Drinks: (4/5) For reference, I had the House Milk Tea. First thing I noticed was that there was a yellow liquid on the lid other than my drink. I figured that this was due to cross contamination from the other drink option, the Calamansi Juice Cooler. This should be noted as people with certain allergies could be affected. When I ordered the drink, I asked for less ice as too much ice gives you less drink and can water it down if you're a slow drinker. Though, when compared to my friends' drinks, there really was no difference. I do think that places that serve drinks, especially cafes, should take these small adjustments seriously as people may enjoy the drink more as well as the fact that it shows they care about their customers. Note that they also pre-mix the drink so you should ask them not to if you plan on saving it for later, but I did appreciate it! Overall, the House Milk Tea was good. As someone who loves sweeter drinks, I found it to be a little too sweet but enjoyed the creaminess/consistency of it. read more

We got a cookie butter latte less sweet & ube leche flan cupcake. Cupcake tasted nothing like ube & leche flan was dry. The latte tasted like it had zero sweetener. I had to ask for it to be sweeter. She told me it was only 50% sweet & they only offer that option & full sweet. TBH half sweet shouldn't even be an option because it was terrible. Whole experience took at least 45 min without even sitting down to eat the whole cupcake there. Was super excited to visit here since we're close by but will not be coming again. read more
