This was right down the street from the conference I was at and I was looking for mussels. Cafe Luxembourg did not disappoint. In fact, they had some nice seating in a heated porch area that overlooked the plaza-ish area that was pleasant. They had Karmeliet trippel on tap which was great and the onion soup was pretty good. Mussels was a good size serving and came with fries and aioli. Plenty more on the menu to try as well. Service was friendly and the place was doing a solid business.

Yum, we loved everything. The tomato soup was extra delicious. We ate everything while people watching in the little square.

Tomato soup, potato salad on "brown" bread, and lamb croquette. All quite good!

I stopped for a late lunch at the Cafe Luxembourg because it came highly recommended by a Frommer's travel guide. II ordered the Traditional menu which included: a cup of tomato basil soup (yum!), Russian salad on a slice of "brown" bread (or what in the US we call whole wheat), and a lamb croquette on another slice of brown bread. The lamb croquette had a subtle but delicious taste and was the size of an eggroll! The Russian salad (small cubes of onion, potato, some vinegar) had a unique taste that anyone can appreciate provided they don't mind raw onions. I did not have the coffee or any brews, so cannot speak to beverages other than hot tea. The service was great. My waiter was very pleasant and helpful. I sat at a table outside facing the square which was a nice way to rest and enjoy lunch. The only drawback is the cigarette smoke coming from all directions, BUT it IS outside seating I don't have a right to complain. Price ... well, considering the value of the dollar against the Euro . . . it was reasonable.

I really really really enjoyed this wee cafe in Amsterdam. We went twice while we were in town for drinks only (late night) and really had a great time. Everything about Cafe Luxembourg is so chill and relaxing, I really felt cozy and happy both times we visited. It's a great place to sit outdoors with your best friends, chat and just be happy. The first time we visited was simply because the bar next door was too packed to even go near, and we noticed that there were cute out door seating available here, so we took a seat and ordered drinks. The prices were cheap enough we didn't feel like we were even in Amsterdam (as things are quite expensive in this city). Luxembourg is right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the University area and its a great place to people watch. Loads of people on their bikes, in cars and walking about, it really felt like we were in the center of it all. Funny thing about this place is that both times we were here, towards the end of our nights, it started pouring rain. The first night, we were able to hide under their canopy until we decided to basically run back to where we were staying, but the second time, we weren't so lucky as it started to rain just as we were leaving. The staff here are very friendly and very accommodating. It seemed a little on the slow side to get the bill each time, but the way things run here in Amsterdam, the bar staff carry around little pouches to exchange money right then and their and don't have to go back to the till to cash out. I really appreciated that.

Irish & spanish coffee

Maybe I'm falling in love with Amsterdam so I see everything with rose-tinted glasses, but this cafe is one of the many lovely cafes I have been in Amsterdam. My friends and I both ordered a Spanish coffee while the third ordered the old-fashioned Irish coffee, all that turned out to be very delicious. The place is facing some sort of square and I imagine it must be nice to sit outside when the weather permits, but at that time it was rainy and windy that we were sitting in the closed patio. Our waiter was lovely and he bore our jokes very well and still polite all the way, but I must admit that I went to this place because it was just a stone's throw from our hotel.

Dropped in to experience Dutch Croquette. 6.5 Fried thick and hard, had a good harmony with grain mustard sauce. 6.5 The interior looked old, dark and dignified like many other restaurants in Amsterdam.

Croquette Monsieur :)

Food was good but four rats were running around inside and the staff did not care. Do not come here.

The terrace is pretty cozy or airy depending on the season, they have heating lamps and local Dutch vibes - you can order something and they will leave you alone for as much time as you want until you wave them down again, so it's great to hang out and read a book. The charcuterie plate was pretty decent. Good first date spot, since it's right in that not-too-cheap not-too-expensive price point, you know what I mean . I'd say it's convenient, nothing so special that you'd go out of your way, but not bad either!

The menu is simple with sandwiches, two different salads, a soup of the day and some light snacks. They also have some Dutch beer on tap. I ordered a local IPA, fries and the goat cheese and prosciutto grilled sandwich. After chatting and downing our beers, which emptied before our food came, we ordered another round and started to wonder about our food orders, especially since all of us got sandwiches. It doesn't take that long to make. Our table was also next to the kitchen so we could see that the chef was on his phone, not cooking, which was confusing. We ended up asking another server about this and she went over to the kitchen to check on our order. Turns out - the order never came through in the computer system to the kitchen, so she had to tell him our orders so he could start making it. By the time we got our orders we were starving (since we were traveling all morning!). My grilled sandwich had lots of goat cheese, which was yummy, but wish it had more of the prosciutto. Nothing special about the sandwich, but at least it was sustenance. Same with the fries. I was hoping for some good, thick fries to go with the side of mayo, but they were thin. Overall, Brasserie Blazer is not the best option for lunch in the Jordaan neighborhood of Amsterdam, but it was convenient for us.

Top Notch Breakfast and Dinner…read more.. Brasserie is the restaurant inside the Ambassade Hotel. My wife and I...along with another couple...had 4 breakfasts and 1 dinner there so this review reflects our experience. - Overall: 5 - Location: 5 (for Old Town and the Jordaan) - Exterior: 5 - Interior: 5 - Atmosphere: 5 - Menu: 5 - Food: 5 - Service: 5 (though the head waiter at dinner was full-of-himself) - Price and Value: 5 Pros: - Location: Convenient to the Old Town and Jordaan parts of Amsterdam. - Exterior: Handsome. A beautifully restored and maintained property. - Interior: Contemporary. Brasserie is a high end spot across 3 rooms, yet remains comfortable where conversation is easily accomplished. - Menu: Very healthy buffet at breakfast plus some items which can be ordered. Dinner offers French fare with a relatively light touch...though very different from the wellness-oriented breakfast. - Food: Excellent. The breakfast buffet is not huge, but full of healthy high quality items. I had 3 unbelievable versions of granola spooned from large jars and covered my bowl with the best tasting light Greek yogurt. Fruit and fish was super fresh...bread and pastries baked on premises amazing. Others in our group chose made-to-order egg dishes. It's all part of staying at the hotel. Dinner transformed Brasserie into a bistro with a French twist on many favorite dishes. Check the menu online. Portions are small - as expected - but quality was high. However, prices were very reasonable with most items under $30. - Service: Homey at breakfast..."French" for dinner. Everyone could not have been more friendly and helpful in the morning. Things were a bit more formal at night with a different crew. The chief waiter was very knowledgeable, but we agreed a bit arrogant. - Price and Value: Worth it. I believe the breakfast buffet is only for guests of the Ambassade Hotel. Brasserie is open to the public at night and quite reasonable. - Parking: None. Who has a car in Old Town? Cons: - The only one readily apparent was the brusque, off-the-cuff nature of our main server at dinner. He wasn't over-the-top, but not in keeping with the friendly vibe of the hotel. And that's coming from 2 couples who grew up in New York City and lived for many years in San Francisco and LA. Anyone can...and should...get dinner at Brasserie. There are many reasons to make reservations for a stay at the Ambassade - including access to their breakfast buffet.

What?? - rock hard bread I wouldn't feed a dog and plastic container butter - lackluster oysters - steak frites came out just about raw (1.5 hours after ordering). Had to send back. Came back with no sauce on top, no mayo for fries - red bass decent - server/waiter said it "wasn't his fault" and "the system didn't take our order". No empathy, no anything. - the most appalling part. Offered us a free drink or a coffee. WHAT?? Didn't comp the martinis, didn't comp the awful steak frites, or anything.
