And man, so glad I did. The black beans, the tortilla, the potatoes on the side. So good. I wasn't even going to attempt to handle it. I used a fork and knife. It was so good. Everything was hot and delicious. Service was great. They were pretty busy. All the tables were taken inside, and a lot of the outside seating was full too. They're located in a small shopping center. Lots of parking. You'll find most places closed on Sunday as it's a lot of profession businesses. But this cafe is open and they were busy. I was looking for a breakfast place that wasn't a chain , when I came across Cafe Lago in Lakeway, Texas. My first inclination that it was a good place was the police car and fire truck outside in the parking lot. I promise you that those guys know a good place to eat. The menu has anything you need and is not so big to be confusing . I went with two bacon , egg and cheese tacos and a peach turnover. Yes to both!! There was only one waitress I saw, but she was handling the crowd of customers the very best she could. A lot of men having breakfast and no one seemed to be in a hurry. Looking for a new breakfast place, hoping to find a "regular" place, we came upon Café Lago. It's small and although they have an outdoor patio, this day was quite chilly and we wanted to dine inside... and so did everyone else. All the tables were full, but there was no one else waiting for a table at that time. There doesn't seem to be any sign up sheet/list, so stay near by and keep an eye out for people leaving their table. The staff are certainly busy but just seemed odd that no one would talk to you until you are at a table. We didn't wait long for our table and once seated, we were immediately greeted and our drink orders were taken. The staff are very friendly and personable. It was our first time so we were just looking over the menu and deciding between breakfast or lunch. So, we decided on one of each. I had the "Jake's Eggs" and my friend had a turkey sandwich. We also had a slice of the French Toast. And to drink I had the iced tea. For starters, the tea is freshly brewed. You really have to appreciate a place that will brew their tea instead of using instant. We didn't have to wait very long before the food came out. The plates were full and the food was fresh and hot. For starters, the French Toast is made from raisin Texas toast and it looks like something you would see on the menu. The pictures always look better than the food, but this looked amazing! And looks were deceiving; I realize French Toast can seem pretty basic, but you don't want to pass this up even if it's just to share a slice or two with someone. The Jake's Eggs is just scrambled eggs with a lot added in. It's probably really good if you are very hungry but not if you want something light. I had the hash browns and tortilla. It's a decent egg meal but not something I would order regularly. The sandwich was kind of plain. The turkey was fresh and came with corn chips. So, overall it's a nice place but not a place I would pick as a "regular". They are very nice and it's a quaint place, good prices. But the food was just okay. I would consider giving it another try in the future and see if the food is any better. read more

My partner and I love going here while I'm in town. The food is great but the iced coffee is not my personal fav. It's all really good tho!

This little slice of heaven is special. We were lucky to meet the owner who took our order, made recommendations from a wide variety of original offerings, and made sure our experience was all we could wish. The food is delicious! We came Saturday morning 9:45am, no wait. The frozen cappuccino was delish on this ultra hot day. The cinnamon raisin French toast with bacon and eggs was ok nothing special. We have eaten here in the past and enjoyed it. Today we decided to drive into town for something different and decided on Cafe Lago. Very disappointed. We looked at the menu on the way. I was really looking forward to the biscuits and gravy. My husband and I both ordered it. The gravy was cold and the biscuits were so hard you needed a knife to cut them. I'm guessing it was package gravy and the sausage was on the side which was also cold. We are not ones to send back food or complain and we were hungry so we just ate what we could. The hash browns were just ok and a little warm. Our waitress never came back to the table once after getting our food. We had to grab her to finally get our check. Just really disappointed all around. The food quality just wasn't good. Again, in the past the omelettes I remember being good. But today for $65 with a tip for three meals that were cold and not good we probably won't be back. read more

After dropping our car off for service in the area we searched Yelp for a breakfast spot. We scrolled through a few options and decided to try Café Lago. It's a quaint little spot nestled in the Lakeway community. Nice to be outside of metro Austin, where parking is free and plenty. There was serviced seating outside, but we opted to sit inside. After seating ourselves, a young woman immediately approached with menus and flatware, and asked for our drink orders. She returned quickly with glasses of water and coffee, then took our food orders. The breakfast menu included traditional options along with breakfast tacos and burritos. We chose the Eggs Lakeway with pancakes and choice of meat. No exaggeration -- our food was served just a few minutes later, hot and freshly made. We enjoyed breakfast and had ample coffee refills without asking. This was a great find thanks to Yelp! Btw, check out the spinning fly repellent contraptions if you dine outside. read more

Cue the most underwhelming food and the worst service i genuinely think we have ever had. It took our waitress over 20 mins to bring us waters and when we ordered lattes she scoffed and rolled her eyes. She acted annoyed about anything and everything we asked for/ordered. The lattes were weak, and tasted like watered down hot chocolate, the home fries were so undercooked they were crunch, and the eggs in the eggs Benedict were undercooked as well-- to the point of having watery inedible whites. Our waitress did not once ask us if our food was okay or check on our table. My husband had to ask for butter for his toast and again she rolled her eyes and scoffed. We stayed at the Lakeway Resort and ate at Cafe Lago 2 out of 3 mornings. The one morning we ate at the hotel we regretted it because the food at Cafe Lago was so good, portions are plentiful and staff was so friendly and attentive. So incredibly disappointed. Not from the area, saw photos of the food online and thought let's try them out! Hostess sat us down, not one server came to take our drink order or acknowledged us. Multiple people came in after us and were waited on by the servers immediately. I hate to say but I have a feeling it had a lot to do with the color of our skin. We went ahead and left after waiting 25 minutes for no one to take our drink order but gladly acknowledging the non colored tables around us. You know a restaurant is going to be good when the local firemen and policemen eat there. Small interior but you don't need much for a brunch place. We came here as a family after Thanksgiving and snagged one of the few big tables. I forgot what my omlette was called but I know it had cream cheese indide. It was delicious and a huge portion. I also tasted my husband's huevo rancheros on flour tortillas and it was good, but not as good as mine. We were a party of 3 waiting to be seated, we waited almost an hour as the girl working as a hostess sat everyone that walked in as we waited, at first I thought well maybe because they're all 2, we are 3. There were empty tables but we were still not seated. Then a party of 6 walked in and the girl immediately sat them. No they did not have a reservation or called ahead because I heard them walk in and tell the girl they were 6. So it's obvious why we were never seated. I honestly think it's because we are Mexican and the place was all white and everyone walking in was white. The hostess saw me get upset I even said in a loud voice, this is ridiculous why haven't we been seated and she looked straight at me with a smirk on her face.
