Ebony and Ivory Coffee - Stairway to heaven coffee flight

Ebony and Ivory Coffee is a cafe located in Downtown Tacoma. There are three locations; Lacey,…read moreTacoma, and Federal Way. This was our first time visiting one of their cafes. They have a monthly rotating menu of four limited drinks for their drink flights. For the month of February the four drinks were: - Lots of Love Lotus -- pink lotus with rose and lavender syrup, topped with lavender cold foam. - Eternal Flame Latte -- espresso with sweet heat syrup and brown sugar cinnamon, finished with a honey and red sugar rim. - Sweetheart Sip Matcha -- iced matcha with cherry and almond syrup, topped with a maraschino cherry. - Perfect Pair Latte -- espresso with dark chocolate, white chocolate, and strawberry, topped with whipped cream and strawberry drizzle. The drinks were all great. In addition to the drink flight, we ordered a chocolate vegan muffin and a Danish to snack on. The space is wonderful. It is a fairly large space that could be used to study, work, or even socialize in. The service is also excellent. The staff are friendly and delivered our drink flight right to us!

With high vaulted ceilings and floor to ceiling windows with offerings of wine too as well as a view of the mountain. The Federal Way location is pretty small with minimal seating. The Lacey location has a tight knit barista fam with a great sense of community and used to host markets in the HUB.

The baristas craft everything from the cutest Spanish-looking open concept kitchen, and the whole space just feels like a happy place to be. There's always a mix of people tucked away working, friends yapping over coffee and, for some reason, a run club linking up. It has that neighborhood energy that makes you want to stay awhile. We got an iced vanilla latte and The Partridge hot, which may have officially become my new favorite fall drink. Espresso, pear juice, almond milk, white chocolate and cardamom syrup sounds like a lot happening at once, but WOW. The flavors are unexpectedly harmonious and somehow just work. This is not my grab-a-coffee-and-run spot. Come when you have a little leisurely time to sit, sip and enjoy being there. Great coffee, cozy neighborhood energy and apparently my new fall drink obsession.

They make their syrups inhouse, and you can tell, even a basic caramel latte tasted like the most delicate, handcrafted drink. They have fun seasonals, they're a hit or miss obviously based on your preferences, but I love them all so far. My go to drink pairing is a cardamon and ginger latte. The inside is SO HOMEY. It's rare to find coffee shops that haven't succumbed to the hospital white aesthetic, so this is so refreshing on the head. It is the ideal shop to study in. The cups and plates are my favorite thing about this place. The cups are handmade and just so stinking cute. The baristas are so welcoming every single time I come in, they look like they just love their job and love to chat with the customers. The outside of the shop is a mint green which really throws me off because the inside is so cute. The parking situation is a little limited as well, there's a few parking spots near the shop and the rest is street parking. They have a large selection of pastries and some food but know that if you come in the afternoon there probably won't be much left, they go pretty quick. Amazing shop, it's a different aesthetic than what most shops are but it feeds that "homey" craving that I have when I want to study at a coffee shop.

I tried Sol Boba for the first time since I was in the area for some groceries and banh mì…read moresandwiches so I figured I would stop by since it's my personal mission to visit as many boba shops as possible, being the milk tea lover that I am. The shop itself is pretty small with only a few seats and tables and there wasn't any customers present when I first walked in but it has a nice aesthetic going on so I'd imagine it would be an ideal place to chill with friends if you're craving boba; otherwise, nothing wrong with picking up your fave drinks and skedaddling home either. There was just one employee behind the counter when I entered the shop, but it wasn't busy so it was fine and once more people started coming in after me and a line was forming, another employee showed up to help out. The service was actually really good though, and the worker was super nice, quick, and got my order right even though he was solo at first. I ordered three drinks: the taro Oreo slush, coconut matcha latte, and Thai tea (with boba in the last two), and they were all SOOO good. The drinks were super creamy and flavorful, and the boba was made really well. Like soft and chewy, not hard at all. I also got two macarons (a créme brulée and a matcha), and omgoth, they're not the tiny ones you usually see. They're pretty big and thick, which explains the approximate $4.50 price, but they were totally worth it. Definitely suggest trying at least one. Prices overall felt pretty average for boba, not cheap but not crazy either. Oh yeah, I think the drinks only come in one size (I don't recall there being a Small or Large option). There's a lot of parking since it's in an Asian plaza, but it does get really busy because Sol Boba is right next to H Mart, so there was practically no parking in front of the shop and I feel like the spaces are kinda tight. There is banner/sign saying "under new management" at the front, but since this was my first time visiting, I can't really say much on that? Overall though, it was a great first-time experience since the drinks were delish so I will definitely come back!

Cashier was not even focused tonight for whatever reason, ordered a blueberry Matcha, but not sure why he put strawberry. Hope it becomes the place that it once was known for, I will definitely not recommend people to be checking this place out anymore. What a shame. At this point, I would recommend people go to Happy Lemon.
