    Fisherman's stew
    Tamar K.

Our first day in Geneva and we needed to find food. And relax. Jet lag. But hungry. So we stumble to this massive outdoor restaurant in the middle of everything. They have food in the window, and I WANT THAT. I explained my being gluten free and dairy free and they were great about it. Thank goodness. And everything we got was wonderful. They even had gluten free bread for me. One funny bit, I order the fisherman's stew. And the waiter asks if I know what that is. Or had had it before. I THINK I know. I THINK I've had it before, just not at this restaurant. Well, you see the photo below. It was great. What I didn't expect was him coming out with a full bib and tools for me. It requires some work. But worth it! And every restaurant in the area has beef tartare. But they also had a mushroom tartare that was great!

I'd call this a stereotypical French brasserie - good ambience, efficient staff, well decorated and feels like it's been here for decades. Beef tartare, fries, and a glass of champagne sound like an excellent way to start a Sunday in Geneva.

Delicious al fresco spot! Food, service & ambience were wonderful! Would highly recommend stopping by for any meal.

I forgot the French name of this one but a delicious white fish... it was the La Raiu.

Lovely location downtown. Attentive service (until it got really busy). Enjoyed a vin blanc sec suisse for an entrée. Had to wait quite a while for a refill after the food arrived.

Cafe gourmand - such a nice like variety dessert and coffee for the end of the meal

This restaurant provides the perfect cafe experience. Set in a large outdoor courtyard, where even in the middle of the day there is plenty of shade and a nice breeze. We had cocktails to start, shared a burger and fries, and then shared the cafe gourmand. Perfect late lunch and still hungry enough for dinner later! Terrific service as well!!

This place is big for Geneva style restaurants. They have a full outdoor and indoor restaurant, great service, seafood and wine selection. From the outside you can see the refrigerated area full of fresh seafood. Oysters are great if in season. I have been here twice, never disappointed. Also the prices are reasonable for Geneva. A must in old town.

My favorite burger of all time! I first visited in 2023 (twice!) and this year I went back w friends and they all agreed the burger is incredible! Beautiful ambiance indoor and outdoors, plenty of seating, and great service! Highly recommend!

First day in Geneva, we were in old town and decided to try this restaurant for lunch. The steak and Paris-Brest are not on the menu in their website (but is listed on the menu when you go in), they were very good. Love the atmosphere, service was friendly and prompt. Would totally recommend.

    Outdoor seating

Elegant restaurant I visited during the summer, where all the seatings were outdoor. I wonder if they move the seating indoor during the winter hours! Situated in a wide alley (almost a town square feel) surrounded by high end luxury stores. The quality of the food is above average. The tuna steak was great. The salads were also excellent. They had a specialty mushroom appetizer, I strongly recommend. The service was excellent. Overall I recommend this restaurant when you are in town.

One of the best cups of cappuccino you can enjoy here in Switzerland. Enjoy it with a morning croissant well, whilst people watching and enjoying the fresh air.

So, where to eat on the QT? Everyone you ask says "Just walk around the old part of the City until you see something that looks good"...unless you've booked ahead at Bay View or Le Chat Botte. And that's exactly what I did. Hard to pass up a seafood tower, or a gaggle of attractive people eating attractive food. This place has been slingin' Sea Bass since 1933 and mostly locals were wending their way through the dining room to small tables tightly squeezed close together. (A good way to snatch an oyster as it passes by on its way to someone else.) This is a charming spot with plenty of bistro accessories. Think copper pots, pewter carafes, ceramic tureens, you know, all the stuff you hope to find at the Rose Bowl Flea Market but rarely do. If you're redoing the pied a terre in Paris or Mission Viejo in modern French Bistro, then take a picture and give it to the decorator and say. "Gimme that." It's a busy place with enough hustle and bustle to make you feel good about snagging a table on an impulse. The restaurant is located two blocks off the lake's main drag with outside seating under a huge awning and a large space inside. There's a full bar and a nice wine list to mollify you while you peruse the extensive menu. It is totally convivial and a fine place to sit, relax and discuss whether you should have bought the Breguet or the Jaegar-Lecoultre. The Staff: Professional, long time waiters like the dudes at the Pantry in LA (except these guys probably didn't hang together at Folsam first.) The Food: This has a seafood forward menu with some meaty options too. A Kir Royale gets you started in the right direction for a shellfish selection while you ponder what's yonder in the kitchen. Snuggle up to a dozen Oysters served with Lemon and Mignonette. Half were from Brittany, and half from Normandy. A basket of Bread Twists and Country French loaf swooped down to keep them company. The Oysters were briny, slender and a hair on the salty side which begs the question as to who was the first person to try one and more importantly, why? After all, there was no champagne way back then. I'm an oyster guy, so if he or she couldn't or wouldn't, I would have. These were pretty good on balance despite the spike of the sea that clung to them when they left home. A wild Boar Terrine dotted with fresh Pistachios with a Foie Gras center sounded good and that was okay, but not fab. It was a cold small hypotenuse triangle of Pate and easy not to be a pig about. Next, out came a grilled Sea Bass which was lovely, although, maybe not for the Sea Bass. But then who said it was fun or easy to be a fish? The two fillets were stretched over a bed of sauteed Wild Mushrooms and there was also a little pot of gluey Risotto. The fish was warm, wrapped in crisp skin, flaky and tender, and with the mushrooms, it was a perfect recipe for some great funky dreams. You'll have to talk to my analyst to figure out what was going on with that. Finally, I lusted for a Burger. I just did. And they had one, bless them. A juicy little beast it was, sitting on a fresh Sesame Bun with Mayo, Lettuce, a spicy Carrot Chutney, Melted Brie, and Bacon as thick as the Buckwheat Pancakes at the aforementioned Pantry in LA. It was a sloppy messy fine break from Fondue and Raclette. Now, if the Burger was good, and it was, the accompanying Fries were terrific. All stacked in a large tangle like the Hedgehogs at the Omaha Beach. These were an obstacle to a 6-Pack, but definitely worth the loss. I left full, happy, sleepy, slightly tipsy, and well satisfied that I'd made the right choice. You in the hood, this food is good.

This was our first visit to Cafe du Centre in Geneva and we loved it! We did not have a reservation but they seated us right away without any problems. The ambiance and decor were spot on. The service was awesome. Their menus are only in French, but they offered us the electronic version which did have an option for English. Our server was absolutely amazing and he made the entire experience even more special. We started with delicious fish soup, then we shared a pot of mussels - amazingly prepared with garlic and cream sauce (I was never a big mussels fan until I tried them here!). For the main course my husband had a young sea bass and I had the lobster and prawns risotto - both dishes were exquisite! For the final course we opted for fresh strawberries and pear (!) milkshake. We had an amazing time and our food was out of this world! Prepare to spend about $100 per person, but trust me, this place is worth it.

This is a lovely restaurant recommended by the concierge, it has nice seating outside and is known for having a good range of food to select from. It's nice to sit outside for Sunday brunch and have a long leisurely lunch since everything is closed on Sunday, I had the fish stew with lobster it was very tasty.

    Mushroom soup...yum

Casual, you pick a plate and try to choose something out of the whole tasty display. You usually end up crowding up your plate. For my first time at Chez Gautier, a gem right off Geneva railstation, my friend Stephanie, a regular, recommended the home made soup. Ordered a zucchinis and leek soup that came with bread bites. Nice, natural and tasty soup that wasn't too salty, nor too rich. I paired mine up with a nuts bun sandwich with gruyère and the Swiss dried beef, a thinner, tastier and healthier version of the US beef jerky. We both went for a sweet touch with a nut scone that turned out to be a little more of a biscotti and I had the meringue tangerine tart. Delicious! The view is still nice but I reckon many Americans may expect that the name + picture means you're high up, so it's worth mentioning. The restaurant is fine: large portions compared to trendy restaurants in the US and nothing offensive taste-wise but the prices are in the realm of make-believe. $49 for basic chicken curry and $69 for basic (but finely pounded) veal schnitzel. In all of my travels there has been no precedent for such high prices being assigned to "everyday" dishes that are in no way elevated.

This restaurant gave us cheese pretzel lollipops, cheese cup and this amazing delicious butter bread concoction. The waiter messed up on my appetizer order but was quick to resolve the issue. The funny thing was that the messed up order actually tasted better than what I actually ordered (lobster pancake). For the main entree I got a shrimp and mushroom risotto dish which was delicious. My favorite part was the dessert. I got the homemade honey comb ice cream. A must try if you are dining here! The only criticism I have about this restaurant is that the service is very slow. I felt as if we sat for 30 minutes before they came and took our order. The whole dining experience felt longer than it should have and we were the last ones out of the restaurant.

It was cool to see little mugs with chocolate pieces which you can get hot chocolate made in front of you. Seating can get crazy. Sometimes you'll have to share some tables because some tables are communal where we had an interesting encounter with three guys on their phones seemingly talking to someone on their phones....seemed like they were on speed dating or chat rooms. It was really interesting. Anyways, you may have trouble getting a large table, but be patient. There's also a restroom up here too which is nice. But don't let the "food court" description fool you, this is not your boring pizza-chicken-or-burger type of joint. The restaurant is comprised of islands of food stations, where they will cook/prepare your food behind the counter as you wait. The pizza station has bowls and bowls of fresh ingredients that you can choose yourself, the grill station has sausages, pork chops, skewers, schnitzels, and much more. You can either choose a fresh cut and wait while they grill it for you, and grab a pre-grilled portion if you're not feeling the wait. Nice sandwiches, an extensive salad bar, espresso station, and an enormous counter of desserts, asian stir fry station, and pretty much anything you can think of. The presentation is tremendously appealing, and prices are reasonable (I got away with a nice cut of fresh pork chop and a side serving of rice and grilled broccoli for about CHF16.50). Dining mate had jambalaya, which, as she put it, hadn't quite decided whether it wanted to be cajun or Asian (cajian...?). It's not the highest quality of food you can find, but I definitely did not feel like I was being gypped of my money, a feeling I get way too often here in Geneva. The very presentation of the food, and the option of creating my own dish piece-meal (and thereby having control over how much I actually spend) was almost an empowering experience, food-wise. We also had the whipped tiramisu and apple crumble, both sinfully delicious. It gets crowded during lunch, but it's mostly eat-and-go traffic, so you won't have to wait too long for a seat. Did I mention the panoramic view from the terrace on a sunny day is amazing?
