Decided to check out Birdie as it was recommend by Monocle and I'm also a sucker for all things bird related (even if it's just the logo). It's located a short walk from the Patek Philippe Museum. This spot was recommended for Brunch so we got here around 11:30 on Sunday. We thought they were sold out as we entered on the takeaway side and all of the tables were occupied. A couple of steps over is the cozy Dine-in section. We got here at the perfect time as we got the last couple of window seats before a wait started. For drinks, it was Cappuccino with Oat Milk and Aeropress Coffee. (Medium ground coffee, shorter brew-Worth trying and not bad). For main, I think we ordered two of the most popular dishes. Birdie Brekkie-Avocado Toast topped with extras of Lox Salmon and Poached Egg. Delicious and the Tahini/Lemon dressing and Apricot Hummus took it over the top! The food was good, but the yelp page was a little misleading. My service was slow, so I didn't get to load the entire thing I only saw that it had one $ & it was listed as brunch/breakfast. It's a small coffee shop that serves coffee & food--it is split up into two different spaces. I sat on the side where the main coffee shop is located, I didn't see the other side until after I left. The service was great, the ladies were friendly, one spoke English & they made our cappuccinos very pretty. As for the food, I really enjoyed it, but it also cost me 19.90CHF (Francs). Hella expensive. My best friend got the granola with fresh fruit & yogurt--also delicious but expensive 9.50CHF. Wonderful coffee and breakfast spot in the Plainpalais section of Geneva. The coffee was top notch, I had a cortado which was smooth as butter. The combination the fresh squeezed Carrot, Apple, Orange and Ginger juice really hit the spot and the Ouefs Parfaits was out of this world. The service was also 5 stars. Love this place. read more

Cute cafe with really nice vibe. I came here with a couple friends on two separate occasions. Once for lunch and the other for a coffee break. There are seats against the window and a few two top (possibly three top) tables inside. On my lunch date, I ordered the ham and cheese sandwich (came with a salad and was about 16 francs) and a flat white coffee (5.50 francs). The sandwich could use more ham but was warm and toasty so still good. Also I liked the pairing with the salad. It created a good balance on the plate. My friend ordered the yogurt bowl which came out so beautifully presented with honey, granola, and fruit. On the coffee break I ordered a ginger iced tea and the lemon/speculoos cheesecake. The cheesecake was super creamy and really good! Both times, the cafe has a very comfortable vibe and it makes it easy to stay there for a while. Also bathroom available! This is a great place to stop by on a Sunday, as some places tend to close in Geneva. There is limited outdoor seating and a few tables and a bar in the take away section. Staff are welcoming and attentive in bringing orders and clearing tables. The cafe requests that no laptops be used, and credit card minimum is 6 CHF. After wandering around parts of the old city, my wife decided upon Birdie as the place where we should have our first bites in Geneva. When we got here just after noon on a Wednesday, there were plenty of folks sitting inside the main entrance as well as at a few tables set up outside alongside the cafe (the extra dining room remained empty until we were about to leave) - so it's a popular haunt for folks, particularly for visitors (we overheard a number of patrons speaking English). The vibe would probably be described as hipster and perfectly fitting into Brooklyn for this NYC resident, but it also had a bit of the old European charm that is hard to import over as well. The servers at the front were both friendly and spoke English pretty well; perhaps the only thing that I wish had been made clear was being able to pay sooner (you just need to go up to the bar and say you'll pay - the sitdown service is not really the full restaurant-style experience from a service standpoint). If you haven't been to Switzerland before, be prepared for a little sticker shock! That said, even though it was nearly 6 francs, the fresh-squeezed OJ is better than many places I have been, with the density of the juice somehow being quite a bit thicker - but having a creamy, smooth texture as well. My wife's iced chocolate was pretty good, and I appreciated that they did not oversugar it and simply let the chocolate stand as it was. For our mains, my wife's 'Oui Monsieur' (a play on the traditional French sandwich) was excellent...it was basically a gruyere-based grilled cheese sandwich with a little bit of ham in it and was phenomenal without being overly buttered up. The 'Birdie Brekkie' is a mashup of avocado toast with smoked salmon from Norway, topped with a poached egg. I think even the avocados are potentially fresher / better here in Europe (my general take is fruits and veggies, on balance, or better in the EU), and the salmon was really good as well. The combination together worked perfectly, with nothing being drowned out despite having the toast having a lot on it. The side salads for both of our dishes had a light mustard-based dressing that was a nice, light complement to our heavier mains. This was very enjoyable, and even if the food wasn't traditionally Swiss, this is a cafe that I would enjoy visiting anywhere in the world. Next time I am back in Geneva (whenever that ends up being), I will probably swing by here for another jetlagged brunch! read more

Amazing brunch place in Geneva! I ordered the avocado toast with smoked salmon and poached egg (to fill my "basic" needs). It was about 19CHFs but worth the price because it came with a small salad and 2 extra pieces of toast. My friend ordered the Oui Monsieur (ham, mascarpone cheese + Gruyere cheese sandwich) and said it legit tasted like a heavenly mac and cheese + ham sandwich. Topped it off with a iced latte (6.50 CHFs aka a bit over my price range but worth it). Food and drinks were overall amazing. The place was a bit small, but we got lucky and grabbed some seats right away! Have been there a couple of times before expansion and during weekdays. Coffee always very good and so were the cakes. Came back last Sunday afternoon to find a very nice and bigger place. Service was disastrous though. Waited for almost 10 minutes to have the menu. Asked if we could order directly at the counter, the kind lady said no. When the cappuccino finally came, after another 20min, it was cold and flat, a sign that it had been waiting at the counter top for too long. Not to mention a second order of drinks and cake that was totally forgotten .... When we tried to get it directly from the counter, the barista, who was happily chatting in the kitchen with two other people, came, picked up orders from 3 other tables which were piling up and said she was "too busy".
