Ehhhhh. Food and service is mediocre at best. Not sure what they're trying to get at here, but they certainly aren't getting it. The prices for some industry standard dishes, like chicken Caesar salad, are capricious and need to be reevaluated, stat. Portions and quality of food are inconsistent. A $14 chicken Caesar salad looked like a sad, soggy side salad, but the $11 breakfast burrito was massive and looked decent. The biscuits and gravy I ordered were tragically under seasoned. The biscuits were dense and the gravy too heavy on my palate...it left my mouth coated in an unpleasant manner. Service was more akin to that of a greasy spoon diner. Our waitress was a little gruff and poured water all over the floor when refilling our glasses. Food took a long time and tables seated after ours were served first. Very disorganized and honestly a bit unforgivable. Café Bodega is all over the map and will leave you feeling equally lost. Skip it and try something else! read more

I wish this breakfast tasted as good as it looked! *sigh* I tried Cafe Bodega as redemption for the horrible pancakes at Donckers and though these are def a few steps above... not impressed!! I got egg whites, one sausage patty w/ potatoes & 2 small pancakes. Not only was the meal TOTALLY overpriced for what you got... you'll have to add sides of items bc there is no complete meal as an option... the sausage was bad - didn't even finish it, egg whites were bland (yes, I know they aren't supposed to be super exciting) and the pancakes were mediocre. If I pay $3 for a pancake.. I expect it to be bigger than my hand. The texture was alright but it really lacked flavor. Not bad... but not impressed. I'd give it a 6/10. The only bright point was the Cajun potatoes. I got a good portion and they were tasty (hence he three stars). Crispy outside and soft inside but the rest, I'd leave. Wouldn't come back for bfast. My girlfriend and I like this place. The menu has many good options for vegetarians and pescatarians and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. We have had: huevos rancheros, whitefish tacos, veggie nachos, and bodega fries. Every dish we've tried has featured fresh vegetables and/or herbs. The whitefish tacos came topped with coarsely shredded red cabbage and avocado slices, for example. It's not fancy by any stretch of the imagination, but it's not expensive, either. Very long wait, they told us it would take 20-30 minutes, but it took like closed to an hour. The food is very overpriced for what it is. I got a French Toast and it was a bit saggy and nothing special. My friends like it here because of their vegan/vegetarian options. But one of my friends grain burgers came out cold, like it was frozen and they didn't do a good job of unfreezing it and warming it up. But I guess their Orbit Pesto Sandwich can be a big hit. My boyfriend got some fries on the side with his wrap for $2.50 and they were just sad. But, all of the servers were really nice! 2 stars because of the great servers. They kept coming over and making sure we had coffee and water. They just really need to improve on their food. read more

Cafe Bodega is one of my go-to's as a Marquette Local. Farm-to-table, ethically and locally sourced ingredients, and a contemporary, updated atmosphere. Are you fucking kidding me?? Have never once thought about using Yelp and then this place was so good I downloaded the app for the sole purpose of writing this review. It took me 20 minutes to peruse the menu because everything looked so good. When my food came the next 15 minutes were the best 15 minutes since my son was born and it might have been better than that. This is legitimately the best restaurant I have ever been to and it's not close. I would pay 3x what I paid for this meal. I've been to Michelin star restaurants that can't sniff Bodega's boots. I got whitefish cakes and the weekender and my SO got the ginger curry with chicken. Unbelievable stuff. Get whatever you want I promise it'll be one of the best meals you've ever had. I unfortunately have also had very poor experiences with this restaurant. I like the menu. The service was really poor. The waitress vacillated from indifference to animosity with our table. We did not ask for anything special, just went into get a salad and a sandwich. There were four other tables in the restaurant and it took us almost an hour to get our food. read more

I've been here countless times and never had a complaint! However, last time I tried to stop in for dinner (45 minutes before close) i was told by the host that since they had one single ten top (which was already eating) that the kitchen would take too long and i should probably leave. We only had a table of four, and while i understand 45 minutes before close is cutting it slightly close, as someone who works in a restaurant, i would be fired if i denied tables an hour before close. New owners who have no clue how to cook. Ordered the eggs Benedict with the Tuscan potatoes, and the eggs were hard boiled and the potatoes were burnt. Waiter explained that poached eggs were normally hard boil and the burnt potatoes was the Tuscan seasoning. Ask them to redo the eggs correctly 45 minutes later they came out poach and runny, but ice cold and the potatoes had been microwave to heat them up again. Will not return to this restaurant, Sad to see a good restaurant go down with new ownership. read more

Every once in awhile you run across a restaurant that is more than its food. This is one of those places. Honestly the food we ordered, whitefish tacos, left a little to be desired, but the concept, the ambiance, and the wait staff (thanks Buck) make this a place to go back to. They were overwhelmed with customers ( jazz festival and other restaurants closed) and very short staffed, but they did their best. The atmosphere is pleasant and I appreciate the mission of buying and serving local. Overall, though, the food quality isn't worth the price. THIS IS NOT A VEGAN FRIENDLY PLACE! Next to some of their dishes there is a "V" sign which means that the dish can be modified to a vegan option. I couldn't believe my eyes when they brought me the dish striped from all of the original ingredients... My breakfast quesadilla was now instead having 8 ingredients, a 3 ingredients dish... and I was charged a full, original price (and these are way too high for the quality they're serving). What a terrible experience. We waited over an hour after ordering before the waitress said that our food "may be an extra 20 minutes" because the kitchen was backed up. The tables next to us didn't have food either and they were there before we were. I miss when this was still the Sweet Water Cafe! Has really gone downhill with service. read more

This was by far the worst service, food, and staff I have ever witnessed at any restaurant ever. The food was cold, our waitress checked in on our table twice the whole hour we had to wait for 4 meals. When we got our food we realized a vegetarian in our group accidentally ordered a burrito with meat in it. When we told the waitress that we made a mistake and it was fine we just wanted to let her know, she then proceeds to tell us that she will take it off the bill, which was unexpected but a nice gesture. As she walked away I overheard her manager tell her she wasn't allowed to take it off because it was our mistake. This would have been totally fine except for the fact that the waitress never told us that she wasn't going to take it off. On top of all this 3 of the 4 meals we ordered we just plain not good. read more

We went this morning for a late breakfast. Very disappointed with the food, coffee and service. Our friend who is a local highly recommended the place but we couldn't see what the fuss was all about. Biscuits were soggy and coffee was downright terrible. Folgers instant coffee would be better than what they passed off as brewed. Mocha was really watered down. Is it good, yes. If you are looking for someone to slam food on your table and get out of their then this isn't the place for you. The food is really made. Not assembled from prep, but actually made on the spot for you. This takes time. Can mistakes be made when every dish is done like this, yes. Is consistency going to be a problem without professionally trained chefs, yes. So if you don't go into it looking at what the meal is, you will not be happy. What it is is local. Everything that can be. From the flour they use to the mushrooms and pork. Everything is locally source that can be. These are not cheap ingredients from CISCO.... they are top shelf items. I have had food here several times and I let the waitstaff order for me. They know what is on fire that day, the freshest in, best food that will come out of the kitchen. I will agree with the water glass issue. Enough people have complained that it should be addressed. The place is spotless, the staff is very friendly. The food has been amazing. Those things are rare in Marquette, almost unheard of for breakfast (yes that is a huge slam on the 3 other egg joints). When we asked for an update 45 minutes in they told us that it takes time since the dining room was full.. we were 3 out of the 10 people in the dining room/whole place. They are blessed with a full staff and half were sitting at the bar. The food was not "from scratch" and cold when it came out 2 hours after we ordered. Don't waste your time with this place. For the past several years, we have been coming up to Marquette from out of town for the annual Noquemanon ski/snowshoe event in January. We were so disappointed when we found out that the Sweet Water Cafe, which we loved, was closed when visiting last year (Jan 2017), but we were pleased this year to see that a new restaurant had opened in its place. Anywho, came in on a Friday night before the race, and the place was moderately busy. The menu options looked pretty familiar from that of the SWC's. For example, the Lake Superior whitefish entree was pretty similar, but there were some notable additions too, such as the chicken mole, which btw was excellent! Also, the drink selection was pretty vast with a wide array of local and domestic craft brews, imports, and a fairly decent selection of wines and mixed drinks. All in all, was very pleased with the expedient and attentive service, and the quality/healthiness of the food. We enjoyed our Friday night dinner so much that we can back on Saturday night! Would definitely recommend and will be coming back here for years to come! read more

loved this place! we are visiting marquette for the week and though we're nearing the end of our stay, this was the best place we went to! we had a male server who really cared about what he was doing. the bodega fries with thai garlic and garlic sriracha sauces was amazing. the bloody mary was the best i've ever had, and the gravy on the biscuits was fantastic. i would highly recommend this place! read more
