Access is right off W…read moreGrover Street and from there you're on the First Broad River Trail, a 2.9-mile out-and-back natural surface path that follows the First Broad River the whole way. Easy terrain, minimal elevation, and completely free. The 120-foot suspension bridge is the centerpiece of the trail and it does not disappoint. Crossing it over the river with water views in both directions is genuinely nice, and kids absolutely love it. Beyond the bridge the trail continues under the historic railroad trestle which adds another layer of character to the whole experience. There are several smaller wooden bridges along the way as well and the trail crosses under Highway 74 at one point. Worth knowing there's actually a second trail access point near Ingles for those looking for a different starting spot. The natural surface is well maintained for the most part though a few spots can get muddy after heavy rain, so plan accordingly. Dogs are welcome on a leash. Wildlife is around if you pay attention, deer tracks along the river are common. Spring is said to be especially good for wildflowers along the banks. Open daily from 6am to 9pm. No restrooms on site. A really solid piece of trail infrastructure for a city this size. Shelby should be proud of this one.

The bridge and the area around it is part of a passive park owned by Greenville County. It was built in 1909 by Charles Irwin Willis (1878-1966) and is a four-span Howe truss, featuring diagonal timbers and vertical iron rods. It is named for Alexander Lafayette Campbell (1836-1920) who owned and operated a grist mill here. The foundations of the mill and home site are still here to be explored. Ample parking and several picnic tables in the shade make this into a great stop for lunch. When the water isn't running to quickly, there's nothing wrong with dipping your feet into the creek to cool off. There are several signs about so that you can learn about the area. It can also be rented for weddings, although I wouldn't know where the guests would park since there is no actual parking area. Happy yelping!

Winter was in incredible time to visit, easy parking, a chance to chat with the staff at the visitor center, and walk around. The lake is beautiful. I've heard that this area did get some hurricane/ storm damage but everything needed to drive around is up and running! Make a plan to visit next time you're nearby. It's about 1 hour drive from downtown Asheville.

This park had an impressive visitor center and restrooms were open even after it closed, though neighboring water fountains were not functioning on a hot summer day. The trail I selected was rugged and had occasional waterside views, most notably on a footbridge that offered a mountain vista. Cell service was not great for me, and while I'd hoped to do a zoom meeting on the run I had to return to more urban areas. But if you actually want to get unplugged, the people on boats here appeared to be having a good time.

Big rig friendly and staff is very friendly, grounds are kept quite clean. Very easy to maneuver our 43ft Class A Coach. Checked in, they gave me the "Rules & Regs" information, car tag and things of interest in the Gaffney area. We stayed for a week in Premium site #316, overlooking the pond. Simply beautiful!! They have a couple of ducks & geese around but they were not pests. Owners have a routine schedule of feeding them. Fun to watch. There is a section for "longer term stays".... but they were quiet and those we met, as we took walks, were friendly. They have a pool, mini-golf and there are walking trails around the 3 ponds. Careful... use exit #90, the exit GPS says us sometimes closed. Advise that you call the Campground to get construction updates.
