    Chilaquiles
    Laura E.

First time coming here in many years! My mom and I sat outside with our dog after a walk. I got the chilaquiles with salsa verde from the brunch menu and mom got her fave, the shrimp tacos. I've had their fish and shrimp burritos in the past and remember liking them. I would add their pineapple salsa from the salsa bar and was bummed they didn't have it today. Chilaquiles is my go-to brunch dish and the portion was generous. We noticed that they added mushroom tacos to their menu. Although the line was not that long, it took a a while to get our food because there was a party that ordered 6-7 items. Perhaps they might have been short staffed due to Mother's Day? Please bring back the pineapple salsa! Still, we would come back to try other items, especially from their weekend brunch menu.

I really love coming to Cactus and their food is very delicious! They are a great local spot right next to the BART station. They have tons of indoor seating and an outdoor patio as well in the back. The staff is always very friendly and happy to answer any questions you have. We typically order take out but decided to dine in this time, the inside is very cozy! Definitely recommend for a no frills, quality meal!

We've been coming here for ages so we have a soft spot for this place. Though we no longer live close I came by today to pick up lunch for the fam. Parking is street parking which is not easy to find. Plenty of tables if you want to dine in. Food is good and there are also drinks and desserts to accompany should you so desire. Take out can be a bit of a wait.

Salsa and Chips. The salsa was tasteless the chips taste like particle board.

The Food is mediocre here. I regret coming here. The service was efficient the environment is clean and well lit. But I wanted better tasting Mexican food. This is not great.

Consistently great crispy chicken tacos for the 10 or so years I've been coming here. Thank you Cactus!

Tasty crunchy tacos. Salsa could be a bit tastier/spicy other than that the taco are a goto with guacamole added to the taco as a standard.

I really dislike being upset with food that is served to me in a restaurant so I often try my best to not be picky but with the nachos of this place it was incredibly hard. Gosh! It was a joke. I wonder if I was being recorded to see my reaction. A $16 plate of nachos (plus extra for guacamole and sour cream) looking like this?! It even had carrots on the nachos but guacamole, sour cream and pico de galo somehow weren't part of the ingredients. Better to take out of the menu you guys. This is a dish I often get in other places so this one was the top of the top in how horrible it was in everything. To be fair, the tacos that my husband got were pretty good.

Went here after a protest. The tacos were ok, and huge! Also appreciated that there's tons of space to sit.

Once you get inside you order at the counter. If you're getting tacos they're all the same price so the cashier will write the number of tacos you bought and you take that receipt and get in the line. Once you get called up you put your receipt in the basket that the worker hands you and tell them what kind of meat you want in your tacos. Today I tried the asada, carnitas, Al pastor, and tripa. They all were delicious, my favorite was the tripa. Portions are good ($4.50/taco) and they have a variety of salsas, jalapeños, limes, etc in the seating area once you exit. I also got a hibiscus (Jamaica) agua fresca that was good. They do accept credit card but they'll charge a $1 fee so try to bring cash if you can. Definitely recommend, this is now one of my top taco spots in Oakland.

Thoughtful!!! Beautifully presented!!! The flavors are layered, the spices are intentional, and the details in every dish keep me coming back. I honestly haven't made it past ordering the roasted chicken, the signature salad with seasonal fruit, and those carrots! Listen, you may think, "Carrots? Really?" YES. Really. These carrots come surrounded by black beans in a chili sauce, topped with toasted almonds. I've never tasted anything like it. It's one of those dishes you think about later. Perfect for everything: Girls' night (like we did this past Friday), birthdays, graduations, date nights, I've even come solo. The food and service are that good. And I have to give a huge shout-out to Estilo, one of my favorite servers! He always welcomes every guest like they're his favorite person in the room. He talked us into getting the beets, and they were ON POINT. He checked on us throughout the night, joked with us, and honestly enjoyed our table just as much as we enjoyed having him. He even said, "You all look so great, let me take a picture of you!" and captured such a sweet moment. I'll be honest: I came in to the dinner a little skeptical at the slightly lower reviews, but seeing that most of them were chalked up as service qualms (and being used to Chinese restaurants), we opted to give it a go. And boy, the food was t.a.s.t.y! Pozole and the carrots and beans were the highlights of the meal, both coming with a super smokey and fiery chili that we absolutely adored, but everything else we had was enjoyable, and not overly seasoned, which is always the concern when we go out these days. I can see where some of the service complaints might have come from because the staff seemed pretty slammed and harried, but we actually found the service to be quite friendly. Accessibility: Outdoor seating is technically accessible, not not always comfortably so. Some tables are situated on slightly-too-steep inclines, which means you may be scrunching or bracing for the entirety of your meal.
