One day we'll learn, but apparently that day wasn't this trip. We decided on Guli Kitchen and ordered the chicken shawarma. The portion size was massive and easily enough food to satisfy two travelers who had spent the better part of the day getting to Portland. More importantly, it was delicious. The chicken was flavorful, well-seasoned, and packed into a meal that felt like a great value for the price. What really stood out, though, was the hospitality. The owners were incredibly friendly and patient. When they heard this was my first meal in Portland, they took the time to recommend sauces, sides, and other menu items to try. Those little interactions always make a place memorable, especially when you're visiting a new city. Portland's food cart scene gets a lot of attention, and after starting our trip here, I can definitely see why. Great food, generous portions, and genuinely kind people. If you're visiting Rose City Food Park, I'd absolutely recommend giving Guli Kitchen a try.

They also did not have a sign indicating their store hours. I managed to find one store owner who was preparing to start the day and she said most of them open at 11 or 11:30 am. We went down the street to grab donuts and returned to try three different food trucks: 1) At the Momo House, we had the pan-fried vegetarian momo and chole samosa with a side of curry chickpeas. We are big fans of momo, especially when they are handmade. These did not disappoint! 2) At Chochu Local Island BBQ, we had the barbecue chicken plate with a side of rice and salad. This was a popular one with a line at opening. I am glad we waited because the barbecue chicken was really tender, juicy, and flavorful. 3) At Ocean Sushi, we had the tempura shrimp and vegetable spring roll. There were seven pieces of shrimp and five pieces of spring roll. One can never go wrong with fried food! This was plenty of food for us to share. The wooden picnic tables and benches are clean and pleasantly shaded. It was an overwhelmingly hot day so the shades really helped to alleviate that and make it a comfortable setting.

With nice temperatures drawing everyone out for walks and the city gearing up for summer, I decided it was the perfect time to check out the MLK Street Food carts on NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. It did not disappoint. The whole area feels fresh and revitalized new stores, clean updates, and a welcoming energy that makes you want to linger. I especially loved the playful touch of the little space shuttle inside; it's such a fun, quirky detail that adds character to the pod. I can only imagine how vibrant this spot gets at night with lights and crowds it's going to be the place to be as the warmer months roll in and these carts start packing out. Portland is famous for its food cart culture (did you know we have more food carts per capita than any other U.S. city?), and this pod delivers with a great mix of options from sushi to cheesesteaks and beyond. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite for lunch or planning a casual dinner with friends, it's a winner. Safe, fun, and full of flavor highly recommend stopping by at 3625 NE MLK Jr. Blvd! If you're in the area, don't miss it. 5 stars all the way!

First, I wanted to note that while the menu shows pictures of fries, the fries are actually jojos! They are yummy but just know they do not serve traditional fries. I got the beef arabi and would rate it 4/5! The meat and jojos were pretty good! I would prefer a little more tzatziki or garlic sauce inside of the wrap but overall yummy! It was more than enough for lunch and I ended up reheating it for a full lunch the next day too. The jojos weren't as good reheated but the wrap was still yummy. The lamb over fries was 4.5/5! The sauces were good, as well as the jojos. The meat was solid but felt like it was a little light for the price. Omar's is a bit pricy but the food is good!

That means I have quite a bit of experience picking up food at food trucks, restaurants and even home kitchens. That being said I stopped by the electric rice food truck to pick up an order to deliver and Eric the owner was in the truck. He was wearing a hairnet and he had gloves on, something I'd never seen before in a food truck, but spoke volumes on Eric's commitment to his craft. As I was picking up the food he had a small portion of food left over that he offered to me which I gladly accepted. Looking into his truck was easy to do, the place was spotless. I must say it is rare to find such attention to detail. the food was well presented and absolutely delicious. Eric was friendly, gracious, and was genuinely happy to be providing food to the public. The portion I received was fantastic. And although I couldn't see inside the bag I was picking up to deliver, the weight of the bag revealed that the customer I was delivering to was receiving more than their money's worth. You won't be disappointed when you visit electric rice. Thank you Eric for the unexpected pleasure of tasting your delicious food, and being part of a vibrant Portland Food scene.
