Shoyu chicken, lumpia, fried rice
Molli O.

I LOVE Hawaiian food and I was so happy to see another truck open! I found Electric Rice on instagram and was immediately obsessed with how delicious their food looked. Decided to try it for dinner and ordered: - Shoyu chicken (with white rice and mac salad) - Nasi Goreng - Lumpia - Extra side of mac salad I was really torn when I got there between the Nasi Goreng and Fried Rice but the owner's (or who I believe were the owner's) steered me towards the Nasi Goreng and I am SOOOO happy they did. It was SO flavorful and I've been dreaming about it ever since. I also loved the Shoyu and can easily say it's one of my favorites that I've had. Customer service was top tier and everything was made fresh. Definitely recommend! And make sure you get an extra side of spicy mayo!

Great food, excellent value to size ratio. I've tried a couple different dishes and never been disappointed!

Very fresh and flavorful. Not too sweet or one-note soy bombed as many can be. Will be back !

The star of the show was the kalbi chicken, which was extremely tender and packed in so much flavor.

My partner and I got the grilled bbq chicken and the bbq short ribs + marinated beef. Unfortunately, the deep fried chicken was sold out for the day (we came in about 45 minutes until closing so perhaps our fault). I think because of the time we came in- we got kitchen scraps. The short ribs were 90% fat and 10% actual meat. The macaroni salad was incredibly plain, it needed more seasoning - pepper something because it straight up looked it was pasta with slabbed mayo. I will however give a shot out to their poke because I don't eat seafood nor like it and I did give this a try for the fun of it and it was delicious. Again I think because we came in 40-45 minutes before closing closing the service was not great either. I saw the self service bottles of sauce and when I came back I asked the lady for one and she said she had run out when it was pretty clear she was just cleaning up. Fair- you want to get out of there on time. So I asked the lady for hot sauce and she said it was extra and charged me $1.00 per 2.5oz container which is just diabolical in my opinion- I still paid none the less so it's my dusky for contribution to the fiasco. Overall it was mid, I'm used to much more flavorful food in Los Angeles. Ill give it another go whenever I'm in the area at a different time. Perhaps it was a one off day for them.

But today, I had the time to swing by and fortunately he was open, but SOLD OUT. Fortunately, he had a few things left over. So I said yes to a mix plate. Nolan's Hawaii accent is still thick it made me feel like I was back home on the west side for a second (!!!!thank you!!!!) I met some people outside the food stand, a business man from Hawaii and some California people I mistaken were from Hawaii as well, lol. It was an awesome interaction, from the moment I got there I got greeted by strangers waiting for food, to going up to the window and asking "so what? No more nuttin left?" Nolan's response was "Nah I only get mochicko chicken and kalua, you likem?" Haha that was a definite yes! Won't miss out on home food esp if word of mouth was already out there. So I waited a few minutes for my food, and the box was heavy. Haha it felt like when you would eat at your aunty and uncles house and they pack you the party left overs. I opened my plate lunch and I was greeted by a huge portion of chicken, pork rice and Mac salad. And let me tell you, the Mac salad didn't have so much frills like what you would see in a Portland Hawaii food joint. It was sauced, and seasoned. PERFECT! No need for all the extra add ons. As I started eating, let me say that kalua pork was no joke so moist and easy to eat not even close to dried out. The chicken tasted nice and crispy with just enough marinate and fluff. I haven't found this anywhere in Oregon..until here. Yeah sure there's a poke and katsu bar in the shopping center next door... but I take the random food cart in the parking lot any day over something franchised

Laulau, chicken long rice...CHICKEN LONG RICE! I haven't had that in years and suddenly my mouth was watering. None of the other plate lunch/Hawaiian food places in PDX have had that to my knowledge, and I needed to have it now. My dining companion was taking in the meat jun on the menu, as well as the fried rice omelette. We went in and ordered the chicken adobo fried rice omelette and chicken long rice on the side. Double starch, double chicken, check. Loved that the menu pointed out they serve koshihikari rice. I knew I was in good hands. No medium grain rice for this gal. The service was friendly, the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. There was a nice note on the wall saying the table would be bussed by staff, so we didn't have to play the guessing game of "search for the bus bins." Clean tables, bright light from the windows, good food. The adobo gravy on the omelette was winnahs. The omelette itself was not holding a candle to Elena's Food Truck, but tasty and filling. The chicken long rice was perfect. The only improvement would have been a nice hit of white pepper, maybe. The only thing not quite to my liking was the mac salad, but that didn't stop us from mopping our plates clean. We will be back for everything else on the menu.

So I decided to head back and try it again. This is purely the opinion of a local Hawaiian. The actual review: Overall the resturant had a good vibe. Staff was very welcoming. Our server was very helpful in making my decision of the menu. Korean Mix plate was recomended as it was a top seller. I overall enjoyed the meal the portions were huge! So defintely come hungry or prepared for left overs. I will say the Chicken wasn't my favorite. It was bad but didn't wow me. The Kalbi (short ribs) were really tasting and very tender. If you like Garlic the korean style food is for you. Pupu Platter: It's a sampler platter is a great way to try a couple things. The Mochicko Chicken was pretty good. Never had it in strips but overall tasted good. The Kalua Pig Egg Rolls were not my favorite. I foudn the Kalua pig very bland. Hamburger Steak: This was pretty good. The gravy was on point and who doesn't love grilled onions? The only thing I had about the burgers was they were a little tough and a little over cooked. made it a bit like bricks.
