You see some guys come out and you think, "Ouch, man that guy looks shorn, like he got in a fight with the electric razor." We wanted our tree to look like it was a guy coming out of a barbershop that looked stylish, thinned but not screaming that it just been cut. We said, thin the trees, so we can't see much of the houses across the yard, but open up the sky and remove the dead branches and heavy stuff leaning against our windows. Carlos delivered. Carlos was good about responding to my phone calls and communicating with me. He was also good about working with me on a time to meet up at my house to evaluate my tree situation. He also showed up at my property when he said he would, which I can't tell you how many plumbers, electricians, and especially painters always seem to fail to do. The thing I liked the most about him though was he was willing to spend time with me and give me advice even after it became apparent my job might be a little too big for him to handle. I was honest with him that I had talked to some other arborists before him. His advice was pretty much the same as what the other guys said, and he explained everything clearly and logically, so even though I am no tree professional I believed everything he said was correct. He even came back to my place after he left to give me some additional advice he came up with he hadn't thought of before. Not only did he swiftly and carefully cut up the fallen tree branches, but he offered insight and advice on the damaged tree and its neighbors. Working with Carlos was great. Other Arborist's won't really willing to work with me. They wanted to just do what they wanted to do and was easy. Carlos knew that job I was asking him to do was tough. But he also agreed with me that the direction was correct - to lower the crown of the tree to reduce the strain from the wind. Rating strictly based on customer service, have not used his service YET. I've had a helluva time trying to find a licensed, bonded arborist with good reviews and promptness in returning calls. Carlos returned my call promptly, answered my questions, and came out to do a free estimate on our association's tree that I thought needed maintenance based on the recommendation of the last arborist (who did not return my 3 calls). Spoke with him on a Friday, called me back on the following Monday to tell me the tree actually didn't need the maintenance just yet. When it's business and you're willing to tell the truth even though it may mean no business for you - that type of honesty and integrity will earn you my business when it is time for it. His recommendation was to have him come back out in Spring so that is exactly what I will do. This review will receive and update once work has been performed. read more

We were under a time crunch to remove approximately 15 trees on a very steep hill with no easy access for debris removal. One company refused to even bid the project. We had the unfortunate luck to have our property adjacent to a property on which Cabera was working today. They decided it was ok to access our patio area and stand on our walls to clip without permission. Now granted the homeowner who hired them should have notified us of this tree trimming as they do cross over into our outdoor areas as a courtesy (would not happen) so for that I will give Cabrera a pass. But a few times rather then getting the job done they chatted with the neighbors (not the ones who hired them) next door (while standing on our wall) and when asked to clean up the leaves that fell on our patios one worker replied "I will only pick up only the green ones" meaning he would leave behind the ones from the same tree that had fallen before. It would not have taken long but instead of showing a good side they left on a sour note. There are more professional places in SF. A note to the business owners: teach your workers that good fences make good neighbors and you never know who might be or MAY NEVER be your next customer. read more

Carlos Cabrera is awesome. He's a certified arborist (#WE-8048A) so he, like, know lots of stuff about trees. I found his business card on my front door one day and while I'm generally opposed to that type of marketing, I saved it because, hey, you never know when you are going to need a tree guy. Nine months later, I looked at the card on the fridge and decided to take action! Within 24 hours of my initial call (literally), Carlos had checked out my tree, gotten me a free estimate, and the horrible Yuccas were removed from my front yard. (Hurray!) Carlos was responsive, super fast, easy to work with, and his prices are reasonable. He took all the green waste away and left me with a lovely Yucca-less yard in less than an hour and a half. Another Yelp success! I found Carlos (Cabrera Tree Care) here on yelp, and all of the reviews have been very accurate. The first thing that must be said is that Carlos is very professional, experienced, affordable, efficient yet thorough, and is also a really nice guy. He came by and consulted with my wife and I at no charge, where we talked through the issues and options we had with our "feral" lemon tree. Once we agreed on the plan to remove the tree, we scheduled a time for him to come by. Though it had been raining all morning, Carlos showed up - with an assistant, on time and fully equipped. Normally, he would have brought a stump grinder, but with no way to get it into our back yard, he instead brought an axe and some chainsaws. With just these basic tools, he and his assistant (Pedro) were finished in less than an hour. They had cut down the tree, removed the stump, and cleaned up every bit of debris from the operation. They even hauled off a bunch of bamboo stalks we had trimmed down while they were there. They even filled in the hole where the tree had been, and if you didn't know better, you wouldn't even know a tree had been there. We can't recommend Carlos - Cabrera Tree Care - enough. read more

I have only positive things to say about Carlos. I left him a message asking him to call me back to talk about my tree (a medium size olive that hadn't been trimmed in probably 20 years). He called me back very quickly and, since the tree is on the sidewalk, he said that he would come by to take a look even though I was going to be at work. He then called me the next morning and gave me a quote ($200, which is on the lower end of the other quotes that I got, including a quote for $800 from Tree Shapers), which I accepted. We set up a time for him to come and do the job, and he arrived 10 minutes early. I have to say, I was worried about how my tree was going to look, I asked him to be conservative because I was worried that he was going to give the tree too severe a haircut. I had no need to be worried, he climbed up and really took his time, and gave the tree such a nice, natural shape, pruning out all the little dead twigs (a totally time consuming job, done just by hand with his secateurs). Once I saw how good he was, I told him to just do whatever he thought would look good and be good for the tree. He did a really beautiful job. I would totally recommend Carlos to anyone, I was very happy with his service, he's got a great eye for how a tree should look! read more

I have tried calling, emailing and texting Carlos for 2 weeks to get the project started but have not heard from him. I did get a missed call from him 2 Sundays ago but no voicemail. I have made at least 4 calls, 2 emails and 2 texts since then but nothing back. I'm disappointed in the lack of response especially when I agreed to move forward with his estimate. Our large bougainvillea was pulling away from the side of our house, taking the electric wire with it. PG&E would only repair it if the bush was severely cut back. A few weeks ago when the wind in the city was crazy, our beloved 40' birch tree in our yard blew over -- into 2 of our neighbors' yards. This was on a Saturday. I started frantically calling tree services on Monday. One company couldn't even come to give us an estimate until the following Friday. Another didn't call us back until Wednesday. Carlos got back to us almost immediately and came over to give us an estimate same day. Even better, he was able to remove the tree the following day. He and his crew worked with minimal disruption, and they were even able to save all the plants/trees that were in the fallen tree's path. He left our yard -- and, more importantly, our neighbors' yards -- spotless. Wow, I just can't say enough good things about Carlos. A large old tree in our backyard was looking haggard. Carlos was efficient, wonderful, and everything I had hoped and more! I had a tree in my front yard that was totally out of control, and hadn't been trimmed by a professional for over a decade. Branches were everywhere, it was a total mess. I called him last week, he dropped by a couple days later, checked it out, gave me a quote, and told me he'd be by either Monday or Tuesday. He ended up cutting the tree for me yesterday and it looks absolutely stellar. It's still healthy and happy, but much less full, and with branches that are no longer attacking me every time I go to take the trash out!
