The minute I stepped into Cabela's, I thought "Wow, it's like an REI for hunters!" It's a huge flagship store right by the stateline of Idaho and Washington. You have to check in your gun before you start browsing around. I must admit that I was very impressed with not only the size of the place but the fact that it's a destination in itself. It houses a huge mountain replica with a waterfall, in the middle of the store with taxidermy of various types of wildlife you might find in the area, from snakes to prairie dogs to moose. Or was it elk? It impressed my 2-year-old son, that's for sure. Not only that, it also has a freshwater aquarium towards the back of the store where they house all the fishing gear. Next, we tried our aim at the "shooting" range. The kind that you might see in a carnival, with red dot and a bulls-eye where you can shoot at and watch a bear pop up or a guitar start playing, or a light go on and off. Even though, I've never shot a real gun, it was actually kind of fun. And I understand that hunting and fishing, and the great outdoors is cultural lifestyle to the area. Oh! I almost forgot, there's also a very small plane hanging inside. There really was a lot to see and I could have probably spent good couple of hours there just browsing at all of their stuff. They had all kinds of camping gear, women's and men's clothing - but a little bit lacking in the kids department. They have a cafe, snacks...I mean, really, I would go back to this place - because it was actually a nice place to see and the staff was quite friendly. read more

On a roadtrip this August we forgot about the time change, so we had an extra hour on our hands and saw a sign on the freeway for the Cabelas outlet. My brother likes ordering from their catalog, and I've been trying to find a real leather belt for my DH so we decided to stop by. Their were signs posted along the route, but it was pretty long from the freeway, and we were wondering if we were part of a "prank the tourists" (and wishing for a smart phone), but then we made it! The nearby Walmart's parking lot was basically empty, but Cabela's parking lot was busy! My DH told me to meet him by the deer head since I was headed to the bathroom, but that was a little complicated. There are a lot of mounted game heads there! I think he actually meant the elk head anyways, but there were again, lots to choose from. We found the belts pretty easy, and a really nice, old fashioned good quality, real leather belt. He loves it so much I have no chance of "borrowing" it anymore, he's always wearing it :( ONLY regret that the nearest one to us is in Utah-- I would have loved to visit their video shooting arcade, what with the fake moose head taunting all passers by to try their luck. Great store with lots of stuff to look at. Really can't beat their selection anywhere around. Their prices are pretty steep compared to what you can find on the Internet. They seem to be turning into the Best Buy of outdoor sporting goods. I go there to check out the products and then go to Amazon or somewhere else to find the same product at a fraction of the cost. First Cabelas i have ever stepped foot in and i liked it. Great selection, clean, and friendly acknowledgement from the staff we came across. My daughter of coursed loved the fudge shop, the mountain of stuffed animals, safari animals, and of course the fish tank. The store is huge though, so it took us a while to figure out where everything was but frankly it had all your hunting and fishing needs, clothing to add as well. The gun library was a sight to see, i could easily of spent all day looking at everything but another day when i do not have a fussy four year old with me. If I could give 0 stars I would. I went there to purchase a handgun a few days after I turned 21. When you turn 21 in Washington State your ID expires, they put a hole punch in your old ID and they give you a temporary ID. The temporary ID explains that the two forms together constitue a valid form of government photo ID. I checked cabelas website prior to leaving to see what I needed before I drove the 2 hours. All the website said was a valid government issued photo ID. I shopped for about an hour, picked out a gun, did the paper work, called 3 FFLs and went to finalize the transaction. Then this prick stops the sale rep helping me says a snarky comment like "what's wrong with this ID" to which the sales rep "nothing" and held up the supporting documentation. But he wouldn't have it, he refused to accept my ID as a valid form of ID and thus refused to sell me a gun. I stayed and argued for an hour or so. But in the end I sold my cabelas gift cards to my dad, went to the sportsmans warehouse (the same day) and bought the same gun, with the same ID...for $50 less. The experience has ruined cabelas for me and I refuse to revisit that store. I have never been treated with such utter disregard and from now on I will be taking my business to sportsmans warehouse or any place other than cabelas. read more

Oh, Cabela's.... I wish I could give more than 3 stars, but my latest experience was a disappointment. I spent more time waiting around for staff than I did shopping....ughhhh. It started with their returns, waiting 20 minutes to find out that of the FOUR colors of jacket my husband wanted, they didn't have his size (seriously? This place is huge!) so they had someone go look for different options, etc. I let my husband handle is exchange situation and I walked over to the fudge place (smells so good). Ummmmm NO EMPLOYEES TO BE FOUND. So, being pregnant, and needing to fill my fudge craving, I waited, and waited, and waited (along with three other customers). About 10 minutes later, someone finally shows up, so I place my order and ask if I can pay there(inside the fudge factory) she hesitantly looks over at the register....so I say, don't worry about it, I'll just check out up front.... Ugh. There were only two open cashiers, both had long lines :( . The line I chose to get in(sigh) had a guy (in front of me) who swore that his size L jacket (that had rung up as an XXL) was supposed to be less expensive because they charge more for XXL's. Double sigh. I know that it isn't a problem of Cabela's, but if they had more people working (more efficiently) I would have been out of there! Easy to get lost with all the selections that are available. Lots of touristy items in the gift shop but then also items for the serious outdoors-man. The wildlife display in the back of the store is very common to all Cabelas and is well maintained. My grandsons enjoy sampling fudge and we always walk out with the 6 piece selection. read more

The review is centered around the Armory. I bought a gun in March, my first one in years. The man behind the counter was flat, disinterested, impersonal, apathetic - I could come up with a few hundred more synonyms for the crap service but moving on. I bought the gun, ignoring the lack of advice, interaction, etc... Being a WA resident, the gun was sent to ONLY ONE arms transfer dealer (BEST BUY SURPLUS) that Cabelas deals with. I was told it would be 7-10 business days after the background check, before I could obtain the gun. It was a week before I was called into to do my paperwork. It was then 3 months before I even saw my gun - and they changed the dates on my paperwork. I recently purchased another firearm at SHOOTERS in Spokane- which was a great experience- and was informed it is illegal to hold a gun for more than 10 days or when the background check comes in - which ever is FIRST. I highly discourage purchasing from this dealer if you are a resident of WA State. read more

If I could give this store zero stars I would. This Cabela's used to be a nice store to experience with a friendly staff however, this is no longer true. Employees were rude and unknowledgeable about products. When enquiring about recently released Sig Sauers an employee at the gun counter snarkily replied "What about them?" From now on we will be taking our business to North 40 (previously Big R) or Sportsman Warehouse where employees are always pleasant and informative. read more

Went to return a smoker hat wasn't working properly. Bought it one day and returned it the very next day. When asked why I was returning it I said it wasn't getting up to temperature at all. My fiancé an I came into Cabelas couple of times to check things out. It's huge an a lot of things to look at. I know my Fiancé loves guns and hunting. I support that; but there has been issues with this company that everyone should be aware an be caution with this company. I DID NOT REALIZE how Cabela's can take the advantage of a loyal, honesty, an amazing person who pay his bills on time, but at the end Cabela's screws him over. In the beginning; my fiancé decided to start a credit card, he figured it's easy an he can be able to pay his bills every month. He discuss this with me before he said "yes" but I had a weird feeling about this an I have trust issues with companies. So I supported him an went ahead to let him get credit card with Cabela's because I want to see him happy. We have been paying the bills every month; but we've noticed the interests rate kept going up every weekend which means "it's compound interests". I was NOT HAPPY WHAT SO EVER. Once we paid more on $1,000; then paid another $1,600 a week later an after that we paid it all because the interests kept going up. What makes me so mad is because I work so hard every day an make ends meet an forced to take my earn hard money to pay Cabela's off an now I'm back to square 1. We have tried to call the customer service, all they say is "welllll we can't be able to help you on that situation!" I think that's BULL SHIT! "do your fucking job an take care of your customers" after few weeks later; we want to cancel our credit card even though we had to wait to process the payment. When we saw the account it said "pay this amount $5.00. "Are you fucking serious!" So my fiancé finally had it an called Cabela's an ram there ass an I hope they deserved that cuz there bunch of douche bags who doesn't care but themselves. During the duration of paying our bills, we kept seeing our credit card going up $1.00 or .10 more..for now on WE ARE NO LONGER GOING OR BUYING ANYTHING AT Cabela's because they have lost our trust...horrible company to go to...I hope there's going to be KARMA IN THERE ASS! read more

Very disappointed in the customer service at the return counter. Stood in line for 10 minutes to return item. I did not have receipt however I figure every other store in the world is able to look up a return with the card purchase on. I fully expect the same out of Cabela's a National store chain. I was informed that they would only return the lowest sale price without a receipt. They were willing to return 40% of the price that I paid for the item and I politely explained that that is not acceptable. Needless to say I kept my item and unfortunately will not be returning to Cabela's ever as their return policy's are certainly not in favor of the customer. I ended up driving 20 miles further down the road to REI to purchase a jacket that I planned on buying while they're at Cabelas today as I know REI is tried and true with returns, exceptional customer service! We may not always buy something when we come here, however my boys are the biggest fans of this store. The boys love to shoot the target rifles, you get free tokens at the front of the store when you walk in. If you need more tokens you can purchase them. Once we've completed target shooting, we're off to look at the stuffed animals- mountain lions, elk and bears, oh-my! Once they've got their fill, we will wonder over to the huge fish tank in the back. Again, we're here for about 10 minutes or so. We do happen to get our shopping in, as all of these fun attractions are in the store and surrounded by any kind of sporting equipment and clothes you can think of! So since we probably have been here for about an hour and of course having growing boys, we get the pull on the shirt, with the 'I'm hungry' bit, so we will head over the the cafeteria. Yes, they have a cafeteria here and it's worth stopping in. My hubby had an elk hot dog, he is definitely more adventurous in that department. Anyway, come shop and have some fun! Typical cabelas. Overpriced in several areas, others are fair prices. Ammo selection was excellent. Staff is friendly. WA Residence factor in $25 for transfer fees more if you want to get a pistol if you live in the Spokane area. More if they have to ship. read more

Fun place to go to. Huge inventory & variety of outdoor products. In general, employees are less knowledgeable than those in small mom&pop specialty shops (archery, gun, fly fishing, etc) That seems to be pretty much a given with the corporate chain stores. You can often find better prices online, but buying here lets you see the item in hand first. You'll also have it immediately if you need it now. You may not find some items that would be carried by a small specialty store or online. - Its a good idea that you do your own homework before coming here. Employees probably won't be able to answer your product questions (they may take a guess at it). And many times, they don't know where to find a product on the shelves. I give most outdoor chain stores 3 stars. I wish I could give this store 3.5 stars because of the sheer volume of inventory they offer and the nice look inside & out. Cabelas is fantastic when it comes to the rustic look of their stores. - They are closer to 4 stars than the average chain store, so thats my rating. read more

Worst Cabela's I've been to! Went in looking for women's hunting boots and there were only 3 options. Very few racks of women's hunting clothing. Very poor signage in the camo clothing area! Too many casual clothing - what happened to this being a store for hunting gear? Was also looking for trigger sticks. They were going on sale the weekend I was there. My dad went in the day before the sale and they didn't have any in stock. The sales clerk informed him that when there is a sale some times the inventory comes in the day before so it might not be out yet. I was there the day of the sale and there were still none in inventory. So advertising for a sale and the items aren't even there. He also went to the optics counter and was looking at the Swarovski rangefinder binoculars. The sales clerk behind the counter never even acknowledged he was there, never said a word to him. So ended up not making the $3,000+ purchase. Very disappointing store! read more

If you like incompetent management and gun sellers that don't know anything, definitely check this store out! My experiences with this particular store over the last year have gotten progressively worse, and after today I will not be back. I had a horrendous experience back-ordering a gun last summer that ended with me waiting for 5 months just to have my order canceled for no reason. Then, after several phone calls and lots of hoops, it took 2 months to get my money refunded from corporate, because I had paid cash up front at this store. It was a nightmare. For some reason I kept going back after that, only to be reminded that their customer service is abysmal. Most everyone in the gun department ignores you and the manager that I spoke with today about another matter was argumentative and obstinate. If you want to eat lunch, look at some fish, or take pictures of mounts, I suppose this store is fine. If you want to actually buy something, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Oh by the way, their prices aren't good either. You can almost always save substantially by shopping around locally. read more

No stars if I could. This place made it in to my top 3 all time worst customer service experiences. I order a rifle that is coming from another store that is to take 3 maybe 4 days, turns in to ten. No phone call to explain. I had to call and get transferred 6 times around the store, and explain who I was and what I ordered each time I was transferred. Some of the people I spoke to more than once and still had to give them the same run down. I was then asked to give my information yet again and was told someone from the gun dept. would call me back right away. Never did get that call. Called back and was told I had to talk to John Malley. Evidently he is the only one in the whole store that can handle store to store transfers. I called in the next day when I got off work, and of course Mr. Malley had left for the day. I spoke with the store manager who told me the paper work was back there on his desk, but not the gun. She told me she would have Mr. Malley call first thing in the morning to explain. Umm yeah, didn't get that call till 2 PM.. Mr. Malley left a voice message and said, "You rifle was ordered and is coming from the Missoula store, and it should be here tomorrow. Someone from the store will call you, and you can come do the paperwork and pick it up. Thank you." No apology, or explanation for the delay. The next day came, and went and I never get a call. I sent an email to customer service, and was told that they would forward my email to the Post Falls Cabela's gun dept. By this time it's Thanksgiving, and nearing the end of hunting season, and the birthday for the person the rifle was for has come and gone. Friday, I get an email from customer service that says they have sent my email on and if I have any more concerns let them now. I promptly replied to them that I was still waiting for my phone call for a rifle that was coming from a store that is only 3 hours away. It was about an hour or so after that I got a call from Mr. Malley. He left a voice message telling me that my rifle was in, and that I good come in and do the paperwork and pick it up. Thanks look forward to seeing you. Yet again no apology, or explanation for the delay. Needless to say, I didn't go in and buy the rifle. I took my business elsewhere, and will never spend another dime at Cabela's. All I got was incompetence, arrogance, and a general feeling of not caring. The clearly don't need my business. read more

Went in today to drop 200 on a fishing reel. Asked an associated if they had it he said usually then turned his back and walked away. Never did find out if they had it. Came home to order it online.,website is down. Called customer service as prompted ,was told Her computer was fine. No answer about the site or the reel. The selection is great and customer service for the most part is good. But they lie and everything is so outrageously overpriced. The gun runners, "also known as the guys that help you find your guns," will give you estimates on your firearms, but they give bogus numbers. They lie in other words. A business that has employees that lie to their customers is not a trustworthy place. They told us a gun I had was only worth $700.00, when in reality the gun is worth $5000.00+. My next gun i brought in was worth $2100.00. They said it was worth $200.00 tops. My last gun I brought in is worth $400.00 They offered me $100.00 and said they would sell it for $150.00. The gun is in 100%perfect condition. There's not a single gun in their whole place that is still functions that is less then $300.00. They outright are either incompetent or they just outright lie to increase their profits. Also a lot of things that they stick in the bargain barn are the same price as the products still stocked on their shelves elsewhere, so not really a bargain. Either way now you know don't trust anything they say. read more
