Just completed an intro to home defense class and it was awesome. I'd been nervous about it but there was no need.. full of great information by Craig in the class room setting and then Whitney and Craig in the live fire setting.. serious teaching, fun times, lots laughs and learning. Craig and Whitney are both amazingly knowledgeable and VERY patient instructors! TAKE THIS CLASS, you will not regret it!! The hours of range time and " drills" help to provide each student with the basics of defensive handgun, drawing from the holster, assessing and working through malfunctions and jams, and safety. Really enjoyed my experience at this shooting range . I brought a friend and was teaching her how to shoot. I was expected to be treated similar to how I have been treated in the past at other ranges and gun stores . I was expecting to be belittled and explained every little thing because I am girl even after I told them I knew what I was doing. But that was not the case here I actually enjoyed the entire experience.I explained my history and knowledge and they respected that and let me teach her without hovering. We came for an indoor experience. We normally go to public areas on BLM property, but its all about the weather when you do that. My guys finally convinced me, and it was great! The staff was very helpful to prep us on their rules, and we shot for well over an hour and didn't even realize it. I never once felt unsafe there, and all other people target shooting were minding themselves, yet all smiles and chill. This was way better than I thought it would be, but it is a long way from where we live. For us it would be an nice once a month thing to do. read more

Been here twice now, both times my wife and I were treated well by the employees. Employees were very helpful as we rented 5 different handguns during our visit and the employees were knowledgeable and polite - and made great recommendations. One of our visits included the couples shoot during Valentine's Day, what a wonderful idea and great execution by Center Target. On the range itself, we were frequently pelted on the head and face by the ejected casings of the shooting customer in the lane next to us. My suggestion is that the partition be extended to prevent this from happening. Highly recommend Center Target. read more

They have a great selection of rental guns, but their customer service is very poor. Even as a member, I was treated badly. I had to ask for the free gift that came with the membership. They often tried to charge me for range time even though I was a member. They also often didn't charge me for ammo or targets that I bought there. Eleven months into my 1 year family membership, they said my wife wasn't on my membership - despite being on the membership from the beginning. You have to use their ammo when renting a gun (makes sense), but they don't tell you that if you don't use all the ammo the day you buy it, you can't use it when the next time you rent a gun. Wasted $60 that way. They can't seem to keep things straight there. I'll never be back read more

Excellent selection of rental guns. Good prices on ammo, including a brand of defensive ammo that I can't seem to find anywhere else. The indoor range in climate controlled. Staff is knowledgeable. Range rental prices are a bit high unless you're a member, but this place is always hopping every time I come in here. Ranges are clean and maintained, with all the equipment working, so maybe the higher range fees are well worth it when the target returns as ordered. All in all, this is my go-to shooting range when I'm in the area. read more

Posting this in follow up to another review RE: Consignment & Form 4473. According to the ATF: "Return of any consigned firearms by the licensee to the consignor must be entered in the licensee's disposition record. An ATF Form 4473 and a NICS check must be completed prior to the return of such firearms." So respectfully, directing your frustration for being required to fill out a 4473 should not be directed towards Center Target. They are simply following the Law. read more

There has been several new staff hired to replace staff who have left, and relieve the stress on the instructors who also work on the sales floor. Errors happen with new people, but I haven't noticed the place going down the craphole as has been stated. Covid has made more people buy more ammo and guns to put it in to protect their toilet paper, rice and beans, and every time I've been in there, they have been BUSY! No wonder the phone doesn't always get answered on the first, fourth, or fifth try. I have left a message and received a call back. I have been given incorrect information at times by new staff. When I have gone to people I recognize as being there for some time and ask about it, I get the correct information. It would have been nice to get the right info the first time, but kinda understand, not only new person, but really busy. Classes range from beginner to advanced, and as you would expect for a class, especially a firearms and/or firearms self defense course, you have to pay for it. Not sure where I would find it for free or cheap, and if I did, I'm not sure I would trust my life to "free" or "cheap". I have discovered that, once again due to politics, covid and impending doomsday, people have booked up classes in record numbers, and I have had to be on the ball a little more than usual to register. I also discovered that the classes have been made smaller due to Kootenai County social distancing. That sucks on the social distancing thing, but it's pretty cool to have less students in the class. read more

My friend and I had a great time spending the day at Center Target Sports. We think there are four main points to know about Center Target. First, the store has a huge selection of guns to rent. We rented multiple 9mm, .45 ACP, and .223 guns. Second, the staff are pleasant and knowledgeable. Most notably, even though both of us live outside of Idaho, it took only about ten minutes to fill out the requisite paperwork and rent our first gun. Third, their rental policy is great. It cost only $8 to be able to rent all guns of the same caliber. For example, it costs only $8 to rent as many of their 9mm guns as you want to rent. For another $8, you can rent as many of their .45 ACP guns as you want to rent. The only other costs are the costs of the ammo you use. Fourth, we enjoyed the range facility. In particular, we appreciated their electronic pulley system for setting up targets. In conclusion, we would absolutely go back to Center Target Sports. We recommend others do the same. read more

Can no longer recommend this place. So i have spent thousands of dollars here on guns, classes and range time. When you buy a gun from them, one of their selling points is that there is a lifetime warranty on gun you purchase. Sounds good. Well today I can in with my PWS MK114 to get serviced (cycling issues). I ask the sales guy while he is writing up my service order...."How far out are you guys with getting this done", he says he doesn't know. Says the gunsmith is separate from the store and he knows nothing about the gunsmith's schedule....pretty much the gunsmith has his own business in that little room and makes his own schedule that nobody in the places knows what it is except for him. So I am getting a little annoyed now.... cause it just doesn't make sense nobody knows. So I ask "can he call me when he is back so I can find out how far out he is", sales guy's response is " I can't guarantee he will call you back cause he does his own thing". Now I a really annoyed... partly because of the answers I am getting and the lack of customer service he is exhibiting but the fact the owner's wife is about 10 ft away, can hear our conversation.... and doesn't bother to step in and deal with anything. I do not see myself buying another gun from this place. What good is a lifetime warranty (other local gun shops offer the same thing) if they treat you like this? Maybe it's because they aren't making money on me right now..... Maybe this guy is just a douche and doesn't know anything.... but having an owner stand there and do nothing or at least explain the process better when they see there is an upset with customer, is unacceptable. Update *July 2020* This place's customer service skills have gone down the tubes. Tried calling them 4 separate times to see if they carried the Springfield Hellcat... each time it went to voicemail...no call back from them. (Bought the gun somewhere else) When I was in the area I decided to drop in a get some G9 9mm ammo. They have a sign up that it is 2 boxes of ammo for each person per day if you are not shooting at their range. So I got 2 boxes and my wife got 2 boxes and we paid separately.... the lady behind the counter looked like she was a chicken with her head cut off. She had to ask the guys what to do.... then learn she is the owner. I'm done with this place. It's just another thing after another with this place. Don't need to be hassled when I am following the rules they post up. On another note the same old guys behind the counter look miserable and they still have a help wanted sign up... that should tell you something. read more

This place is professional, the staff is professional, and their range is superb. My wife and I bought an annual membership and the staff walked us through the process, explained everything clearly, and we were all set. Couldn't have been a more enjoyable experience. Their selection of firearms is superb and their prices are excellent. I highly recommend this place if you want to either learn as a first-timer or as a pro to keep your skill level up. I read some of the negative comments and must say that a range is not there to be playtime. If you get corrected for doing something wrong, it was done to ensure your safety and for the safety of others. It doesn't take much to hurt yourself or others so don't be a cupcake and get your feelings hurt. This isn't paintball. You can tell this place is purely professional and the staff are there to help you be your best and to do-it-right. Bravo to the entire staff. read more

It seems like what everyone's saying about Center Target cutting corners and acting like they dont want business is true these days unfortunately. I should have listened because it was a waste of $25 for only 15 minutes of range time. Today they only had 2/3rds of they bays open with almost all of them filled. But there were two customers in the middle blowing everyone's ears out because they were shooting 5.56 indoors with muzzle devices that direct the blast sideways to the people on left and right. Even outside that's not pleasant to stand next to! I asked why they don't open bays 1-5 that are separated by a wall and put the folks shooting rifles cartridges over there? They said it was because they wanted to keep them clean. There's an easy fix for that, there'd be nothing to clean if there are no customers! read more

Currently a member, my wife bought a family membership as a Christmas gift this year. I've been a few times and while most of the team members are friendly and polite there is one named Paul that I always seem to have the misfortune of working with. He's very slow, rude and abrasive on the phone and in person. Generally I enjoy the facility, they keep it clean and safe, but the service needs work. Really enjoyed the basic pistol 101 class with my husband. Loved the structure taught by PJ, which is what I needed to feel comfortable with a handgun. He was VERY patient and kind, just what this old newbie that loaded my magazine backwards needed! Didn't get frustrated with me after several learning issues. Four hours lecture, almost four hours range time, all kinds of scenarios, both hands, right hand, left hand, shooting in the dark. A well rounded beginner course IMO. The ladies next to us said it was much better and less expensive that the one the had taken in WA. . read more

I really wanted to like my local gun shop, but things have really gone downhill at Center Target. Now if I could give a negative score I would. Service isn't what it used to be, employees don't seem interested in answering questions or letting people check out products (both with myself, and in my presence with other customers). The last straw for me started when I took a firearm in for Consignment. My firearm was there for months before I decided to go get it back due to lack of interest. Center Target wants me to Pay $25 for a transfer fee and do another 4473 ON A FIREARM I ALREADY OWN. After trying to ask questions about the reasoning (this should be similar to taking a gun to a gunsmith) the employees got really upset with me and besides being rude basically forced me from the store. Now they have my firearm without my permission and are holding it ransom. The thing that really upsets me is them wanting a 4473, when the firearm is MINE! I would have gladly paid a storage fee, they are a business after all providing a service regardless of how I feel about them. So help me, I will never use this gun shop again...I don't care if they have the items I want, Ill special order from somewhere else and pay more. read more

I have visited this store/range several times throughout the years. Recently, I went in to purchase a gun but found that the transfer would take too long (not their fault as it has to do with the state I am from.) After spending a good deal of time with me and then finding out the transfer issues stood in the way, Larry, recommended a shop/range near my home (300 miles away). I should have written the name down, as I couldn't remember it when I got home. I sent an email to the owners asking if they knew the place or could ask Larry. I sent the email after 10 PM. 2.5 Stars if I could: Gunsmiths: Not happy. With the work or the in person service. Paid a low price (for the area) and now I'm wishing I would have paid double...somewhere else. Range: A bit pricey, but slightly moreso since they do not tell you they are charging you for the one time use of the disposable eye pro and ear pro. A lot of ranges either give them free -- or give you loaner lenses and reusable muffs. It would be nice if they were more up front about it. But yes, it was also on me to ask. That said, their "fees-and-membership" page of their website says nothing about it. I found out all about it when I got the receipt. The range staff I spoke to were friendly and gave great service...aside from not being that forthright with the eye/ear pro cost. Rental Guns: Nicer selection. I was certainly happy with it. Retail: Nicer selection. I was certainly happy with it should I have needed something in a pinch. Mostly middle of the road quality. Above fobus, below raven concealment. Retail area: Very nice for waiting -- it was pretty busy at the time. There's things about this place I'd give a 8 or 9/10 and things I'd give a 2/10. It's kind of strange. Confusing Went in about a month ago. Called ahead. Asked if I could shoot 300 BLK. I was told "yes." Went in and had a good range day with two 5.56 platforms and two 300 BLK platforms. Mid February if memory serves. Went in a couple days ago with two 300 BLK platforms. Was told I could not shoot un-supressed. Well, I have never taken the NFA time to purchase a suppressor. Not my thing. Told him I shot last time, but he says no. Ok, your house. Inconsistent information and cleverly not listed on their website. People need consistent information. Waited in line for 5 minutes or more. Only three if us in line. One guy filling out paperwork, another renter, and me. Two more people behind the counter talking amongst themselves. Noticed us, and did nothing. Not a good impression people. I seem to read that this is common practice. So, since my 300s' are "too much," according to the guy at the counter (case capacity similar to a .357 Mag), I will go again and bring my 5.56 pistol with comp. its a noisy little B@&$?h! And my fave 2 1/2" (yes, correct barrel length) .41 mag PORTED that throws a 2 foot long , 12" diameter flame out the muzzle. And I am NOT expecting ANY feedback from the staff because, according to their little sign behind the counter, I can rent a limp-manhood 500 S&W! But, hey, my 300 BLK carbine is, "too much." Please post accepted calibers and equipment on your website. Might help others in the future. read more

Great place to learn gun use & safety. Great helpful staff. Haven't shot in a long time & hubby has never shot, so figured we needed to brush up since I wanted a new home protection gun. We are signed up for an 8hr basic gun class where hubby will learn to shot & I will dust off the cobwebs. Stay away from this place folks. The service has dropped into the toilet. I bought a Glock 36 from them, and after all the paperwork and payment was completed, I asked the guy to show me one more time how break down and clean the gun. He said he couldn't and wouldn't do it because it is store policy is not to show owners how to field strip their gun. He went on to say that if I wanted to make an appointment with the gunsmith, I could try but he could not say how long it would take to get an appointment. Ed & Peggy run a very professional shooting range: they offer a wide range of classes for new and old shooters as well as the Idaho Enhanced Concealed Carry class. Nice ranges but they get very, very, busy especially late in the afternoon. Pretty reasonable prices if you sign up for a monthly membership. They have a "resident" gunsmith (Adam) who has done some quality work on my firearms. read more

I've been going to center target since we moved into the area. The staff are always pleasant and professional. If you're a long time shooter you know how rare that can be. My family and I have taken a number of classes the last class we attended was the wilderness first aid. Everyone who leaves their living room would greatly benefit from this class! Every vehicle and range bag now has a trauma kit. Sure making up the trauma kits was expensive but what's a life worth? read more

I'm from Washington so I had to meet in Idaho to do a transfer, was initially told by the employee that it would take approximately 2 hours to do a transfer because they were busy, there was exactly one other customer in the shop. I asked for a manager and the employee became ruder than usual, it's always the same with this employee who works Mondays, he's heavy set, short beard, probably 50 years old, and I told him so, he raised his voice and said "because I follow the rules?!" I demanded a manager now and a pleasant young lady approached, said the transfer could happen immediately and had the same employee assist with the 4473. It took the employee 20 minutes to complete his half of the form, BEFORE he even ran the NICS check, the manager even asked him what he was doing for so long and he said he was double checking the form. Minutes later he came back to the buyer with a big smile and said "you were delayed, do you still want to buy the gun?" The buyer was as put off as I was but stated he was going to proceed, but not before telling us that if we didn't want to proceed it was still $30. A couple days go by and the buyer returned, another employee helped him, but there was about a 20 minute delay because the jerk employee didn't put in the correct serial number and didn't sign the 4473. Center Target used to be a class act, but I will NEVER do business with them again, really disappointing. I would think if Ed Santos knew how poor the customer service was he might do something but this counter tough guy has been mis treating customers for some time now, shame on both of them. read more

Nice in door range ruined by grandmother like employees. I've never seen so many people get bitched at and harassed while trying to enjoy themselves. It's like having your mother in law along to tell you everything your doing wrong. I made the mistake of getting a one year family membership, that won't happen again. Who needs rules and safety regulations? This guy! For the reviewer moaning about having to follow safety guidelines I have two words, Hayden Creek. You can always head to the woods with the crowds of PBR drinking, armchair commandos and shoot all sorts of trash while littering and ruining access to public lands. The rules are existing for a simple reason, I don't want to be shot by the a$$hole one lane over. No drawing from a holster and no double taps, range rules should be standardized. There's a waiting/lounge area, free coffee and clean spacious shooting lanes up to 75 feet, I believe. Rifles up to 5.56 and shotguns with slugs can also be fired. All pistol loads are acceptable as well. 17 bucks a day is what it costs, or join a monthly membership for yourself or your entire family which equals less then two days of shooting each month. Hours of operation are great, open till 1900 hours on most nights. Loads of supplies, CCW courses and training options. Staff have been fun, helpful and welcoming. Gun rentals run 7.00 per gun and you have to shoot their ammo which isn't marked up from retail. Free gun rentals for monthly members :0) Clean bathrooms are a plus in my book! Full time gunsmith on premises, this place is more like an adult candy store than a shooting range. The money you spend on fuel driving to the woods you could save and shoot in a climate controlled, maintained range. read more

We bought tickets to a kids shoot at this facility for our family. Unfortunately, my wife and one of the kids became gravely ill the day prior to the event. I notified the business the day prior of our circumstance and asked for a refund. The staff let me know that a refund would not be provided, irrespective of how ill my wife and child were. Is this a place of business deserving your dollar? They will NEVER see another red cent of mine, and I typically spend 10-15k per year on new firearms, ammo and accessories. Sometimes it is the minor little concession, the good business - good neighbor ATTITUDE, or its utter absence, that can really cement business loyalty, or forever torpedo it. This business let me know unequivocally that the $40.00 they took from me for a kids shoot was the only thing that mattered to them in our situation. The next custom build project, new firearms purchases, range rentals and ammunition and supply purchases that would figure into my continued patronage of their business did not figure into their math. I'm glad I learned what this place was all about upon my very first dealing; I would have really regretted kicking them any real money. Lots of gun shops, folks.
