Army Surplus is awesome. It is on the corner of Division St and Buckeye Ave so it can be a little uneasy to get to it while driving, there is a driveway west of Division on Buckeye with parking in the lot in back. The entrance is on Division. There is a 'dummy' door on Buckeye, that is NOT the entrance. The outside of the building is old and un-renovated, but it is what is inside that counts. Everything in the store is old, used, or surplus military gear and etc. They sell firearms, ammo, ammo cans, jackets, rain coats, sleeping bags, boots, belts, cots, knives, helmets, patches, flags, BDUs, canteens, pouches, bags, even grenades (the ones I saw I believe were test or practice grenades full of powder and generally harmless). They get so much new inventory so often it is nice to return to see what is new. As said, you are also able to bring in any military, police, or tactical gear and equivalent to sell or possibly trade. I was able to get some new (used) US Navy BDUs like I had when I was in the service that I lost when I got out. On top of all the great things in the store, the workers seem to very knowledgeable about things military related. I was able to get assistance on how to get some new dog tags made. read more

They might not always have everything you're looking for but Kevin, the guy running the place, always has an idea where you can look. He's a pretty honest guy on the stuff he has so when asking if a certain knife or bag is decent quality, he'll give you his honest opinion. read more

Store is interesting and there is a vast array of items on the shelves. I have been here a few times, mostly for old surplus firearm items not found elsewhere in Spokane. Staff have always answered questions, though they are somewhat introverted. The rating is for the lack of U.S. surplus items, 90% of the items in the store are Chinese. What little U.S. items are in stock, are grossly overpriced. Hard to find ammo is available. For example, 9mm Mak from Tula is there, but at $19+, it is better bought from Sportsmans Warehouse down the road for $11 and some change. They also have M57 magazines for about $50, but classicfirearms.com has them for $22 shipped. Save your money and buy online, or from the big box stores. I am an Iraq vet and I am appalled by the prodigiously inflated prices. read more

30 dollars for a surplus item I can get for 12 at amazon. I asked the condition and if he had any like new jackets and I was laughed at on the phone. Back in the old days businesses like this would go out of business. Its too bad people tolerate this type of condescending attitude from business owners. read more

The store itself is fantastic, don't get me wrong; five stars for that, no question. Great vibe inside the store and the layout keeps looking around INTERESTING. I walked down the same aisle a few times, thinking I'd seen it all, but- Holy crumbles, when did that get there?! I didn't go up the ramp because I wasn't sure if it was off-limits, even though it seemed okay to go up. This was my first time in there and I wanted to make sure I didn't look like a 'noob' or whatever. I moved to Spokane nine months ago and it saddens me to admit it took me that long to find this place and actually, go in. I frequented the local Army/Navy Surplus back west and had a grand ol' time every visit. Lovely staff, fascinating merch, just a pleasant place to be, y'know? So trucking over with sunny expectations and locating somewhere similar here? I was ecstatic; there was no containing my joy. Now, here is where I justify my two stars. Hear me out, I'm not being unreasonable. My fiance and I went in on one of our very few mutual days off, both of us having somewhat of a military background and stoked to gaze upon the wonders displayed in the not-unpleasantly cramped space. Less than two seconds after entering, we knew there was something a bit off. It was deserted. Okay, fine, whatever, not unusual. There were two middle-aged men behind the counter, one RIGHT next to the door -there was no way he couldn't have seen us- and we were met with the glorious sound of proverbial singing crickets and deep-croaking frogs. I can give an exact transcript of the cumulative interactions we had with these men; exact because there wasn't any. None. There was no greeting, no 'Have any questions?' or 'Need help finding anything?', and I swear they were going out of their way to ignore us. I tried to ask questions a few times, but I was pointedly disregarded completely. Not too long after the first attempts at making potential inquiries, a notably taller -and generally larger man than I- walked in with a girl no older than ten. The two of them were not only spoken to, but were graced with basic retail etiquette. (Egads!) I went up to the counter and, making sure I had at least brief eye contact, started to ask what was to be my last question. The other man conveniently materialized at the counter and was helped immediately, even though it was MORE than obvious I was going to ask something. I haven't felt this horrendously disrespected in a very, VERY long time. But I let it go and we left without a fuss. I'm not the most burly guy in the world, going so far as to say I'm rather small and unassuming for the most part, but this is retail, (un)gentlemen, have some class. Or tact; tact would be acceptable, too. A sale is a sale, no matter if to the preferred demographic, and you will be making none to us. And we were going to be frequenting, too. I'm not sorry to leave this review and I appreciate those who have read this far. Hopefully something will change in the future, but until then, my trips back to Seattle will have to do. read more

I purchased a stainless steel canteen from here for around $18 which I didn't think was bad. But I was later informed that I could've gotten it cheaper elsewhere. That being said, this place still offers a lot and you could spend quite some time going up and down the aisles. There's a lot of interesting stuff in there and they also buy your unwanted gear. read more

Very interesting and cool store with lots of cool military and outdoor gear. I have purchased several items from the store including new pants, a used Goretex jacket, and a knife. My issue with the store is not the store or the items it is with the man behind the counter. Be sure about what you are buying, for the owner won't inform you on any of his merchandise. Once choosing the used jacket I approached the owner seeking more information on the jacket. The owner then proceeded to dodge my questions in an attempt to get me to purchase the brand new Goretex jacket. Once placing the jacket on the counter I asked to purchase a butterfly knife that for an unknown reason it had been marked up from $20 to $30 plus tax, when I came to find out that they are Chinese garbage. Of course you can't tell the knives are cheap because they are zip tied untill you hand him your money. I played with the knife for the next four days and like any butterfly knife it got dropped several times and broke very quickly. Like I said I have no complaint about the store or it's products, my complaint is with the owner whom just wants the money out of your wallet, not happy customers. He will not guarantee any of his products and he will try to gain every penny he can. BEWARE of what you purchase. read more

Their inventory is fantastic, their prices are high, unfortunately. It was a cold, silent encounter as well, despite my 4 year old causing all sorts of noise and getting into stuff and holding my sleeping baby in my arms. The two men who worked there this day, said not one word to us, no smiling, no talking, it was weird indeed and stood out. Admiring their awesome knife selection in their case brought my attention to some merchandise with nazi swastika symbolism at the end of their case , in one area. Now, I could care less what people believe even if they are racist (I just don't want the nazi party to ever have power and control again like they did one time) (some people like confederate flag, some like nazi symbolism, some like crosses and buddha, whatever). But after seeing this, I couldn't help wonder if their cold, silent treatment was a result of some racist opinions/ beliefs about me because I am a woman or because maybe my kids didn't look white enough? Was I taking their cold, silent treatment personal? I don't know... but when I first got there, I was excited because I like these kinds of stores. When I left, I couldn't help but wonder if there were black people, alive, swinging in cages, chained up in their basement as I was shopping upstairs....Won't be back. read more
