Not good. They follow you around with a smug-ass look on their faces almost expecting that you are going to shoplift. I expected a strip search before I walked out! This store is staffed with a bunch of old judgemental biddies. I won't be back. I shop and buy at Sage regularly. I have filled 2 punch cards since Christmas at $50 per punch. This business has poor management and loyalty to local customers. After 9 years of being a local customer, upon returning an item for a store credit, (as I understood their return policy) I was only given a partial credit back to the store. I questioned it, with the owner, who happened to be at the store. I was later told that the manager said I only received credit for the money I spent and would not be receiving the money that I earned in their so called loyalty program back. After having spent $1,000 at their store over the years, I apparently received a $50 credit to use at checkout. I was so excited as I didn't even know it existed! When I brought one of the items back that I purchased, to get a store credit, so I could get something else from their store, the manager said that I was given a "gift" of $50 and lost that when I brought the item back. It would have been nice of them to tell me I could exchange it for the same amount that was spent, but they never said anything. I'm not sure how they figure that into their "loyalty" credit, but was saddened by the disloyalty I received after having shopped there for so many years. They apparently care more about keeping $50 than they do earning $1,000. I still can't wrap my head around it. However, it left such a bad taste in my mouth that I won't be giving them my business. It's a small town and word gets around, when customers aren't treated with respect. As their sister store, Sage, is run by the same family, I also won't be supporting their business anymore. Sad day, as Just Because was my favorite boutique in the area. read more

Just because is a great women's boutique. The store is filled with a wide selection of beautiful merchandise that is well made and thoughtfully displayed. The service there is exceptional- very friendly, knowledgeable and extremely helpful. My shopping experience was fun - I felt pampered. I came home with some fun pieces that I am excited to wear. read more

I loved this store, and the others related to it, but the customer service I received on my last two visits was degrading. I had recently purchased a gift for a friend from their location, Sage, and went into Just Because to look at the Brighton jewelry, directly after this purchase (really, I look at everything in boutique stores because you can always find the most interesting items). Okay, I'll make it short: On this day, one employee made sure to always be near me, had a conversation with another employee about bringing one of the girls from Sage over to keep an eye on me because they were too busy (she thought I "looked" like a shoplifter, whatever one may look like...). She didn't know I could hear her, and when the Sage employee came over, it was the same person who had just helped me in the purchase I had made there. I think she was surprised that they had called her over to watch me browse. She was right next to me the entire time I was looking at the jewelry, and made a comment about how she always came over to Just Because on her breaks to look at the jewelry, not knowing that I knew the truth. That just made me sad...I left. The next day: after work, I returned to Just Because as I had seen a couple different necklaces that had caught my interest. The same employee who thought I looked like a shoplifter was there all by herself. I walked in 25 minutes before closing time and she came from around the counter and invited me in with these exact words, "We close promptly at 6pm. I have an engagement." Okay...that made me feel uncomfortable, and I was going to let the previous day's weirdness slide, too. I said that I had been in the day before and was just going to look at a couple necklaces. I asked if she remembered me (I talk when I get nervous and uncomfortable), and she replied with a snooty yes. Still, letting it slide... I am now standing in front of the necklace display, brightly colored phone in one hand and an obvious set of car keys in the other. I open my purse flap all the way (because I had a feeling she would be watching to see what I was doing, and didn't want to make her nervous...shouldn't have cared, though), and I dropped my keys and phone into the purse. I left the flap wide open. Good thing I did because she immediately blurts out, "Are you going to pay for that?"...She's standing about 4 feet away from me, had nothing obstructing her view from what I was doing, and she wanted so badly to believe that I had done something wrong...what a shame... I looked at her in disbelief and a second or so went by when it registered that she was accusing me of shoplifting. I showed her the opening of my purse and asked if she was talking about my keys and phone, or did she just accuse me of stealing. She said, "Well? Did you?" Wow. I pulled my purse open wide and said take a look. She looked, mumbled something and took a few steps back. Unbelievable. I left. Day three: I went to their sister store, Gourmet Way, and told the associate all about it. She was shocked and said that they had to replace a lot of staff for being rude to the customers already, and that the owner would be very displeased. She gave me a business card and said the owner would be in and I should come back and tell her the story on Monday at 10am (this was Saturday). Monday, 10am: I walked in even though they were closed. The employee I spoke with ran up and greeted me. She began to direct toward where the owner was when a woman quickly interfered, saying, "I'm the general manager and I will help you." The employee went to do her business and I told the gm that I needed to talk to Jill, the owner, and that I'd made an appt. She said no and that she would help me. I was kind of upset at this, but feeling a little bullied, I stood there and told her my story. Her response: A pursed smile with no other expression through my whole story. At the end, she justified what the employee did by starting out with, "well, our stores have been hit hard by shoplifters over the past few months and she was just being diligent." I really wanted to be a jerk and say, "you mean vigilant?", but instead I said, "but I just told you how unnecessarily rudely I was treated...what are you going to do?" She said she would talk to the employee, thanked me, handed me a little flyer about a grand re-opening, and said I should come back and enjoy their re-opening celebration. What???? Really???? Then, she ushered me out. All I could think to do was return the gift I purchased from Sage. A friend suggested I tell this story here, so here it is. Yes, this is the short version.
