Let me just start off by saying I do not know ANYTHING about hunting or camping or anything of the like. We stopped in to pick up a pair of toddler sized ear protection mufflers on our way to Nitro Jam with the fam. We were happy with both the selection and availability of staff for questions. The store was GORGEOUS and made me want to come back just to wander and look at everything. I had heard that Cabelas was famour for their fudge but really quite taken aback by the vast array of sugary delights and sweet treats they had in stock. I didn't expect an outdoor store to have a section of candy rivaling any grocery store! My toddler loved all the animals about the store - almost like walking a Smithsonian! Okay, maybe not that many but you get the idea. They even had a fudge counter where you could watch pastry chefs making fresh batches of fudge! We didn't partake in any sweet treats on this visit but rest assured... We will be back! The only negative comment I have heard from my hunting/fishing circle of friends is that they need to carry a better array of fish lures that are appropriate to the fish that can be caught both locally and throughout Alberta. My understanding is that they carried more lures for fish not found locally than found locally; but then again, what do I know? read more

I'm not a hunter or don't really fish much at all so I don't have much need to come into a store like this. What brought me in was I needed some camo tape for Geocaching containers. I thought this would be the most logical place to get it so i ended up going here one day to pick it up. The store is huge and has more than just hunting/fishing specific equipment. There is a ton of stuff for camping. They have grillers and smokers among other items us regular people might actually be looking for. Lot of great clothes too! I must have missed a lot of this store because I just read a review that mentioned a fudge counter and store made pretzels!? I will have to come back and look around more. read more

Until this week, I never even know this place existed. That is about how much I know about camping, fishing, and hunting. However, now that I have discovered it, I would highly recommend it to people into all things outdoors. Which is not me. However, I did find some useful things here like first aid supplies, pocket knives, and backpack accessories. There are huge - HUGE - sections for tents, fishing gear, guns, and clothing. You can find Cabela's own lines of clothes as well as designer names like North Face. I loved the selection of hats, but I was so overwhelmed with the selection that I left hatless. The trophies that adorn the walls and the big game display area, as well as a the "gun library," add a museum-like quality to the store. However, for me, Mountain Equipment Coop is enough to suit my outdoor urban needs - and the prices are better too. read more

This store has some really cool mounts of all kinds of animals. The customer service was great, lots of people all looking to help out in anyway they can. Why low score you ask? This is simply due to the pricing at this store, possibly an unfair comparison but when you come to this store and have shopped in the US the prices are close to double even when you factor in the exchange rate. A primos shooting stick that was bought in the US for $54US was $109CA at this store. A box of 300 winmag ammo in US was $34 and at this store it was $68CA. Maybe this is normal here but seems pretty ridiculous read more

We want to share the positive experience we had at the South Edmonton Cabella's store. We have been more than satisfied with their customer service. The staff at the "Gun Library" invite you to sit in on their evaluation of your firearm, at which time, they provide the strong and weak points about the firearm. Their appraisals are based on researching the salability of the firearm would be and they give you 2/3's of what they would retail the firearm. Great Service! Great Employees! read more

I went into Cabela's looking for lead free weights. I often fish in the National Parks and as such, I prefer to buy gear that is lead free, as even having lead in proximity to the water is a fineable offense. After searching for at least ten minutes and having no luck finding the weights, I set out to find an associate. What I found was someone who knew nothing about fishing. She paged the Fishing Associate and it took him forever to respond. When he arrived he informed me that it is not something they carry as they are difficult to get. I don't know who their supplier is, but after going to The Fishin Hole, I found the weights I was looking for. Anyways, I was really excited to step into Cabela's for the first time, and I must admit they have done a good job setting up displays of various taxidermied animals and the architecture is decent. On that same visit I tried their fudge shop and it was good, except for the employee who worked there. He had little to no knowledge of the product and didn't appear to want to be at work at all. They upside was that the fudge and roasted pecans were amazing. read more

I'm not a hunter, and it's been years since I fished, but I love this store! Their prices are actually very reasonable (I did some comparison shopping with Amazon and other sources), and their selection is pretty incredible. They've got a great stock of grilling / smoking needs, camping needs, as well as some pet (dog) supplies and other outdoor equipment -- all in addition to their hunting and fishing. We have purchased a lot at Cabela's. My son is an outdoor enthusiast. Dealing with the online store as stocks were not available in the store was terrible. I was refused to be put through to a supervisor when the person attending the call refused to provide when the item would be shipped. She was saying it was the way of the world. Extremely horrible experience after spending more then 2000$ on items at Cabela's: I have purchased an rifle GSG 10/22 December 28 , 2018 at 8:30pm from Cabela's North Side locational (Manning drive),Went out today to test the rifle and it's not functioning not cycling. I decided to give them a call today December 29th around 5pm to bring the issue to their attention, spoke to one of the representatives from the firearm department he was really rude and hang up the phone on me, called second time spoke to Angel one of the managers and I was told the aren't responsible for the issue that I am having, I was told that I need to take the firearm to a gunsmith or contact the manufacturer. Firearm was purchased not even 24h ago, it sounds more like a fraud to me then anything els. Hopefully media will get involved in this so we can sort this issue out. They are saying they aren't responsible for this issue , but who's making the profit when the gun is sold to the costumer (Cabela's). Worst customer service ever! Went here to buy camping gears. we asked the cashier if were able to return/exchange the stuff we bought if some of them doesnt workout (thinking maybe they have some restrictions in their return policy because of covid 19) but we were told yes were able to return and exchange everything we bought except for the dehydrated food . So we came back the next day to exchange the sleeping bag we bought for my sister because she doesnt fit in it, but they wont take it back because of hygienic reasons. Its so frustrating that we asked before purchasing the item if were able to return/exchange it and they assured us that we can return it. It also doesnt say in the receipt that all sleeping bags are final sale, you have to go online to see the list of stuff you cant return/exchange. They need to tell people if theyre buying a final sale item especially if the item cost $60. Buy camping gears somewhere else! Sleeping bags at other stores such as mec, atmosphere and mountain warehouse are not final sale. read more

I've been looking for a jacket that would be useful in spring and fall conditions. I've been to this location before and they have a good variety of "sportsman" type stuff but also some quality clothing. After looking for about 5 minutes I had to track someone down to reach something for me. From that point on I had 3 people who stayed with me until I found what I wanted. It took 3 of them because as the first 2 got called away to look after somethings else, there was someone else to take over. After looking at Simons, the Urban Barn and few other places, I found exactly what I was looking for. The North Face, a great fit and priced at $150. I was happy with the product, the price and the service. What more is there? read more

my boyfriend bought a pair of Oakleys sunglasses from Cabela's, after having them on his head a few times, he realized they don't fit him very well, they don't stay on his face properly. Unfortunately we cannot find the receipt. If you look at their policy, right at the top it mentions a return without a receipt for the lowest selling point in the last 60 days (let me be clear, we don't want our money back, we just want a different pair of sunglasses), however if you scroll wayyyy down, to the optics part, you see in there 'sunglasses' at the very end. So after 2 weeks of back and forth emails, me saying we don't have a receipt for the SUNGLASSES, this guy finally decides to tell me about the optics return policy, when I mentioned the return without a receipt policy a good 3 or 4 times..... what a waste of my time. I will never buy from Cabela's again. Now they say after 60 days I have to contact the manufacturer, the manufacturer says they can't do anything for me because I don't have a receipt, and the sunglasses aren't defective...... what a joke. Im really irritated, and we just wanted to exchange them. They have a great selection of products, but I would rather drive 3 hours to Calgary at Bass Pro Shops then to shop at a Cabela's every again just for the bad customer service that their customer service department gives....................................Melissa read more

I'm a long time Cabelas US customer and buy most of my clothing there and have been very satisfied with the cost and quality. I'm also a very proud Canadian and fed up with supporting China and I feel as consumers we can just quit buying products from there. My complaint with the Edmonton store is sizing for clothing which really doesn't exist in the way it should. I will probably continue to buy from the US mail order side as I get what I want there. If the Canadian version does not want to listen to it's customer base they may go the way of some other retailers that don't exist anymore. I'm waiting for the new store in Saskatoon to open in May but if they don't change there it will just be another useless Walmart that I won't frequent. read more

Hmmmm as soon as I walk in there is a greeter standing next to a sign that says please check gun in here.....whhhhat? Yup its true. There are so many stuffed animals on display here, in fact they probably have a better selection than our Natural museum. i never really bought anything because theres just too much. My senses were going nuts. I didn't know which way to look because of the overload. Its like looking at a menu that is 20 pages long, just too much. It would be cool to see them specialize in local environment, but it was just a mass of everything. The location is brutal but i guess Edmonton is expanding in that direction? I'd rather much shop at a smaller local shop. Bigger isn't necessarily better. read more

This place is neet to walk thew. It's got fully stuffed everything. They sell almost every type of rugged sporting goods. They're like an outfitters. Hunting and fishing mostly. But the prices are way too high. I like looking but unless I'm rich I'm not paying 500 dollars for a gortex jacket. Like it's top of the line stuff mind you but still. This is so far the best outfitting store in Alberta. The prices are better than Wholesale Sports., and Bass Pro does not even come close to this place. Most of the staff is knowledgeable, however there are the odd clowns that have no clue, I am sure they will be sorted out in time. I have found the customer service to be exceptional and the prices fair. The only problem I have found is that they cannot get some of their products that they sell in the US. Purchased top-of-the-line game cart in June 2013. Didn't need to use it until last week. The product never should have been sold- it fell apart every time it hit a small bump (we were in a hayfield). And I notice Cabela's has pulled it from their offerings, replaced with a newer model. Despite dropping the product, Cabela's would NOT stand behind it in any way- left me to take the loss of $178.49. Not to mention struggling in the dark, trying to tie broken pieces together to make it 500m downhill on easy terrain. I pity anyone who actually took this piece of crap into the back country. Just got off the phone with Cabela's. My husband received an electric filleting knife for Christmas, we opened it up and it is not working. They will not let us return it because it is a food prep item, whatever that means. So beware and make sure you open your product before you leave the store or pay for it. I have never heard of anything like this before, we have never even used it and they said sorry we can't do anything about it. I think we won't be shopping there ever. read more

I go to this location a lot, and am familiar with all the outdoors shops in Edmonton. You can always find some little thing about stores to complain about if you're looking too hard, so part of the reason I'm giving this 5 stars is because it is so much better than anything else in the area. The service is excellent, selection is good (and you can have anything you buy online shipped here for counter pickup at no charge), staff are well trained and knowledgeable (as much as can be expected). This is a case of a chain business from the U.S., moving in and directly improving my quality of life. This first store (there are now two in Edmonton) pretty much killed Wholesale Sports in a year. This wasn't due to undercutting on pricing, just due to so much better service, selection and reasonable prices. I was in Wholesale when Cabela's first opened, and heard staff complaining loudly about 'people that support that 'American' place.' These same staff failed to say hello to me the entire time that I came and left. Every time I was in Wholesale the kids they had on staff were standing around talking. The only reason you won't get good service at Cabela's is because they're overwhelmed with all the customers. read more

Went to buy a Barnes reloading manual, no dice...Went to buy a pair of leuold binoculars that I liked, no way.....Wanted to buy a specific bushnell spotting scope, again nothing......I can only hope that Bass Pro Shop decides to build a store here, they have a huge selection, great service and a fantastic store display....Overall, Cabellas is pretty pathetic. read more

Another alternative for outdoor enthusiasts. This store has a huge selection for traditional camper, hunter, fisher types. If you are into mountain climbing, back packing, kayaking, head to Mountain Equipment Coop, Cabelas is more for the ATV crowd. They caryy some pretty neat stuff, it is worth visiting for a look around. The quality of the products is good with high end name brands like Tilley Hats and Canada Goose parkas. As noted the prices are on the high end. However, I was able to buy a Cabela label gortex rain jacket at 40% off, for $110.00. read more

The place to visit for fudge! Remember to stop here at the changeover of seasons for best pricing on clothing, footwear and sporting goods. The prices are higher reflecting the better quality items. But save your money to buy winter coats before their sping stock is shelved or summer gear before the Christmas stock is displayed. Save a ton of money by shopping on Monday evenings and not during the weekends. read more

I purchased a beautiful SAKO A7 with Scope at the south Edmonton store on sept. 20th, 2018. I received some help from one of the gun experts to buy the gun and mount the scope then he helped pick out some ammunition for the gun and he picked up 2 boxes of ammo nd brought them to the counter, I paid for everything and left the store. That weekend I went out to sight my gun in and realized I had been sold the wrong ammo. So I went down to Cabela's same location to return, refund or exchange the product the I had been sold (and which I never even physically held ammo before purchasing) and I was told NO there was nothing they could do. So I wasn't even able to tell my story to the manager, I left the ammo at the store anyway. I understand you cannot return ammo but the point is Cabela's made this mistake not me and Cabela's should make it right and they didn't I even emailed their corprate office with the receipt showing both the gun and ammo and nothing. Disappointing to say the least after spending $2500. read more

I was in the Cabela's store in Edmonton today and to say i was not impressed with the service would be an understatement. I asked to see 2 different scopes in Optics that were listed but not in the glass counter. We are out said the associate after I waited for almost 10 minutes for service. I pointed out to him I could see the 2 scopes on the shelves behind him and he reluctantly showed them to me. The real frustration was at the gun counter where after taking a number I noticed more of the gun associates going into the back and leaving the one lonely sales rep from Beretta on the counter by himself. The numbering system there is a big joke and allows the associates to avoid everyone by not calling out the next number. I like a number of other customers left after only one number being called in over 20 minutes. Pretty obvious these are salaried employees who could care less about sales or the Company. The place really needs a good shake up and management should be looking at this area to improve the lack of, no make that total absence of, SERVICE. read more
