I came to this location to shop in person for the very first time recently. And I loved how clean and well-organized the store was. We had seen via the website that the store sold snowshoes that my kid would enjoy and we got to try them on in the store to make sure they would work. They have been a great success! Additionally the kid found a great new water bottle and I found some great clearance sandals among other things. I liked the amount of staff who were available to answer questions, the good amount of space but no clutter and the great selection of items. We debated getting many things but are happy with our final purchases. We might not camp much but it's great to have such an excellent snowshoe source and a great place to find other things for the outdoors! read more

When they have a sale, best time to shop. Selection and variety is good if you aren't shopping for boots or clothes late in the season... that sucks, but it's the inventory game. Staff know their stuff and if they don't they will tell you up front so you don't get less than useful advice. I was shopping for boots today, and the first gent was straight that his specialty was softer goods at the front of the store, directed me to the lovely gal at the back in boots and she was on the money. Knowledgeable about the different fits and insulating values, even called the West store for me & put my size on hold. Three day hold too! I wear a non-athletic clothing size so sometimes I luck out on the clearance racks. It's not the most low budget prices place, but they do carry some unique products. Parking is great, just outside the door, and access is sweet from Gateway Blvd. or Calgary Trail. They had a great online sale, and delivery to the store is free. Will update my review since they didn't have any of my item in stock to look at before ordering. Price was fantastic, so we'll see. read more

This is my favorite store for outdoor gear. Anytime I've been to Camper's Village I've not only found the staff to be incredibly knowledgeable, but they also seem to be genuinely enjoying themselves. That makes shopping here a real pleasure. Now to be fair you can hunt around and find many of the products for less but I'm often surprised at how competitive their prices are. Either way, I come for the quality goods and experience more so than the prices. As an added bonus this is a locally owned company that started in the northwest in Edmonton. The original store in the northwest is considerably larger than this one next to Chapters but that space is primarily so that they can set up tents and other large items. Today I picked up another set of Nano Spikes which are the best strap on traction aide for your boots that I've seen to date. These are not for city sidewalks but rather for walking or running in the river valley trails in winter. If you buy a pair you're all set for a world-class walk through Maligne Canyon in the winter or early spring in Jasper. It's not to be missed and Camper's Village always has them in stock (and occasionally on sale). This is a fine no gimmick outdoor supply store. read more

Wow! I went shopping at this store last Friday and did I ever receive great service. I only went in for a pair of binoculars for a concert coming up, figuring this was an outdoor camping store type of place so they should sell them. A young man named Kai introduced himself as I walked in and asked me for my name and took me straight to the binocular section and gave me a rundown of all the models, answered all the questions with good knowledge and attitude. What a pro! Once I picked out a pair of binocs, I decided to look around and see what else this store had. I am NOT by any means an outdoor person, I don't hike, camp, or ski. I did not have a clue what they actually sold until that night. What I can tell you is that this store would be an outdoor person's wet dream. Upon browsing, what I did find attractive was their selection of quality outdoor wear such as sweaters, jackets, boots, gloves, etc. Most of their stuff I found to be very high quality, stuff you can't find at major dept. stores. I ended up trying a few sweaters and fleece jackets and ended up buying a couple of them. Their prices are on the high side, but when you see the quality, this is not a bargain store and most of it is worth it. Very impressive quality indeed. To sum it up, I enjoyed my first trip ever to this store, the service was fantastic, I got to know my sales associate well, we ended up having a great discussion about business, music and life. This fellow was a pro as I said. If I had a job opening in my company I would hire him in a minute. I highly recommend this store for their outdoor apparel. Unfortunately my only experience with Campers Village will very likely be my last, seeing as there are many other outdoor specialty shops not only in the area but in the city. I went to Campers Village because I am looking to buy a good quality camping chair. I was ready to take make the investment and not have something break on me half way through camping season. Seeing as they are a specialty store, that I came to expect that I would likely find something that suited what i was looking for. Right when I walked in I noticed the selection on camping chairs on my right. It was considerably smaller than I was expecting but some of the chairs looked to be of a higher quality and with features I was looking for e.t.c My two biggest issues was that not all the display chairs were convenient to test because they were sitting higher up on some kind of shelving. So even though I could look at it, I wasn't able to sit in it or test how easy they were to fold up. My second issue was that not all of the chairs were even on display and some were just in their packaging intermixed with the others. Perhaps my frustrations would have been alleviated had there been a single employee come up and ask me if I needed help or had any questions. I was in the camping chair section (which is almost next to the cash desk where plenty of staff were just hanging around) for 10 minutes and wasn't acknowledged once. At that point I had given up on finding a camping chair there and since it was my first time in the store thought I would take a quick walk around to see what they had. The store itself has a great look and vibe and is clearly well stocked with any camping supply you could think of, however, even during my walk through of the store I wasn't acknowledged once by an employee. If you know what you are looking for and don't need any help, then by all means shop at Campers Village. If however you are looking to learn about a product and need assistance in choosing the right item then don't waste your time or gas. read more

I took my family in tonight and told one of the sale people that I'd like to buy 6 backpacks. They brought four sales associates over and began fitting my children ages from 10-15. As they fitted the kids they discussed adjustments and fit with me and the pros and cons of some of the packs they sold. They were great and friendly. We ended up with 4 osprey and 2 Gregory for the smaller boys. I would not hesitate to refer them to a friend or a reader here looking for a good experience and competitive price. We put the stuff in the van and I went back in and bought a MSR Hubba hubba just because I was treated so well. I have been buying here for years and have enjoyed the expertise from micro stoves to sleep pads and headlamps. So thank you all those that worked with us tonight. My kids are beaming read more

I had purchased some items online for pickup in the South location and was told days after that they actually didn't have it in stock, that they wouldn't order anymore in, or honor their price. I was so disappointed with the customer service! I bought a fry pan for my jet boil stove (among other things) from this location. I took it on a trip and when I went to fit it onto my burner I realized it was too small for the model I had. I tried to take it back (with the original packaging and they had my receipt on file) but the manager told me that she wouldn't accept it because it had been used. MEC and LL Bean will take back anything (even shoes that have been hiked in!!) but Campers Village won't take a pan that's touched a stove. From now on I will be shopping at a place with good return policies and values me continued business. read more

My boyfriend and I went here today, August 26th around noon (to help you know which guys were working). Best customer service I have ever experienced. I'm going away to Asia and I have never bought official backpacking gear before so I didn't really know what would suit me. The backpack guy, the footwear guy, and the sock lady were super friendly. Taught me all about their backpacks, socks, hiking boots, and helped me fill out my list. I learned so much like how things should fit me personally, and proper ways to handle things, and what to look for. I went looking for some new hiking boots at Campers Village and found a few pairs that fit fairly well. The salesperson was courteous and helpful and I was having trouble determining which pair fit the best. I was very disappointed that Campers Village did not have a ramp to test which boot my feet did not slip in when going down a steep incline. I was considering leaving to go to another store when I was told by the salesperson that I will have one month to try them out and if they were not ideal that I could return them for any reason. As I was heading hiking the next week I thought that it would be a good opportunity to test out what seemed like the best pair. Unfortunately, once I got into the mountains my foot was rubbing on any steep incline when I was descending. I tried adding inserts, larger socks and using alternate lace tying techniques, however, nothing worked to avoid rubbing when descending. After a short hike I was in pain and clearly these were the wrong boots for my feet. When I tried to return the boots I was told that they would not accept them as they were used outdoors. That critical information -- one month "only if used indoors" -- was conveniently omitted when I bought the hiking boots and I would not have bought them if they had been forthright about their return policy. I feel thoroughly deceived by the salesperson and I do not recommend shopping at Campers Village (South Edmonton). In my experience other camping stores have a far better and transparent return policy. read more

I have purchased from two different departments (hiking boots and tents) and both times was impressed at how the staff were friendly and provided info about the range of options without necessarily trying to up-sell. Also I recently had a concern about a defect in something I bought there, and although I didn't have my receipt and I had declined making a profile at the time of purchase, they were still willing to help me out. I used to be a huge fan of Campers Village. I shopped there many times and never really had any problems. That changed today. I purchased a new pair of shoes last week, pretty standard procedure for me. I go into the store I get the exact same size shoe as I always do and then I leave. This time something was a little off, my feet were hurting. When I got home I took my shoes off and noticed that they were a size 8.5 not the size 9 that I had asked for. Here is where things get interesting, I went to the southside store (where I made my original purchase) they did not have any size 9's. The cashier directed me to the west end store that did have some in stock. I exchanged the shoes and then went to go look around the store for some other things ( leaving the shoes at the till). When I got back to the checkout to pay for my other purchases, I reminded the cashier that the shoes that were on the counter were mine as well. At this time another staff member pipes up and said to me." we can't take these shoes back, they've been worn" I don't remember what I said at this point, but it probably wasn't anything nice although I made sure not to swear at this current juncture. I asked him if he was kidding, he assured me that he was not. I left the store very angry and told them to keep the shoes and that I would never be back. I won't get into all the details, hopefully this will prevent someone else from having the same problems I did. A brief recap of what happened, I asked for a size 9 shoe and was given a size 8.5. When I tried to return them as it was the stores fault, I was refused. I did nothing wrong except not check the box to see if I got the proper pair. I was just trying to support an ALBERTAN company, not an international chain. For the cost of $130.00 they lost me as a customer and hopefully a few of you as well. read more
