I'm not a hockey fan at all, so I had never been in this store before. A friendly worker (maybe owner) greeted me, when I walked in. This place was full of sports merchandise--mostly hockey, but there was some football and a bit of soccer stuff too. I really like the t-shirts of old school football teams. They were made so they looked "vintage." Lots of jerseys, hoodies, t-shirts, and a whole lot of caps lined the walls. There were a few large displays of Oilers merchandise, like yo-yos, keychains, mugs, pucks, clocks, toy cars--pretty much anything you can think of. I ended up getting my friend an Oilers t-shirt and a toothbrush. I mean, who doesn't want to put the Oilers in their mouth? Okay, bad joke.

She was helping another person before me and listening to her you can tell she is passionate and knows her stuff. Only issue, the company cuts costs and doesn't give business cards at this store. Cheap, and not a real cost cutter, and the signed Oiler's gear got sent to the Oiler's store in Kingsway. Which is a joke and we won't go back due to the horrible lack of service, or even acknowledgement that there are actual shopping customers in that store (4 of us). This place, though, was great! Friendly and superior service. Someone get this lady, Faith, to train other staff at other stores. OR fire those ASSHATS at the Oiler's store in Kingsway and get her in there.

This little shop is conveniently located in Sturgeon Plaza just down the road from Akinsdale/Kinex arenas. Granted we haven't stepped on the ice yet in our freshly 5/8 sharpened skates but I'm confident the job was done with care. Ron took the time to discuss with me what kind of skating the hubs and kiddo do and asked us to let him know what we think and to pop back in if we'd like any adjustments. The shop also buys and sells used hockey, ringette, and lacrosse equipment. My son needs to go up a size in skates for spring hockey so we will be back very soon to check out the selection!

When i asked why she said she doesn't have to take the money that I can either pay with debit or leave. When I said It makes no sense why you aren't taking his money he can count it for you this is a learning opportunity. She replied not my problem you can teach him how to count. I am mind blown at the audacity of this cashier and how intensely rude she was to children and myself. Worst customer service I have rec'd in forever.

The identical mouthguard was $3 less here, the identical mouthguard case was $2 less here, the jockshorts were $4 less here.... I was shocked! I'm not saying their prices are better on everything but I was schocked at the hockey basics. Source for Sports beat Sport Check on several prices as well - such as patterned hockey tape (Maple Leafs, etc.). We got our skates sharpened here in under 10 minutes though I did find the process odd where they then put a security tag on the skates and had me go to the front to pay another till. And then the lady tried charging me for the skates! I was like um no, I brought these skates in to be sharpened. I wasn't quite sure how that was going to play out - eventually I said feel free to have security review the camera footage, you'll see that we came INTO the store with the skates. A bit odd, but it all worked out in the end.

Having…read morebeen in the Edmonton south common store a few days before, and observing many in stock, the deal was too good not to order. As I placed my order, it indicated that the downtown store was "Next Day Pick Up". Given that I wanted to pick up as soon as possible, I selected the downtown store, even though the location is terribly inconvenient for me. Approximately 24 hours later, I called the downtown store, whom after about 25 mins on the phone with various people, told me they had no record of the purchase. Of course, I couldn't go pick up the jacket, the next day, at a location that was inconvenient, because MEC hadn't even processed the Order as of yet. Great. I called the customer service line and spoke to a male who told me "this sale has caught us completely off guard and we're overwhelmed". No kidding?? The male told me that there had been staff cutbacks this year, due to how slow it had been, but suddenly the sale has regenerated sales that have overwhelmed the existing employees Ok ... the spokesperson then told me that my jacket was in Winnipeg and had to be shipped to Edmonton! What is going on here, MEC?? You hold a Black Friday sale and you're overwhelmed??? Then my next day pick up, at this inconvenient location, is in Winnipeg??? The kicker is December 16, 2024, I received an email from MEC telling me that my order has been cancelled. My goodness. I've been a supporter of MEC for over 25 years, and have never seen such awful customer service or a absolute lack of responsibility in fulfilling an order - for that matter, I don't think I've ever had a more disappointing exchange with any store, ever, than this experience.
