Overall, the roof replacement they did went fine. The window replacement is another story. The two stars is the roofing job pulling it up from one star. We contacted them at the same time about both the roof replacement and replacing our builder-original windows. The roof replacement went well - in the general timeframe promised and with no hassles. However with the windows we had a few issues.
First, we told them of our desire to be able to open just the top of the windows so that we could get air flow but not have the lower windows open at kid level. When the windows arrive, they have half-screens over just the lower windows and we're told we would have to order full size screens to be able to cover the top half of the windows. Sure enough, the order we reviewed and approved did list half screens so while they were told what we wanted (screens to be able to cover the top of the windows). So while unhappy about that, we could see that at least being partially our fault for not catching that detail. To be helpful, the also point us to a company that could make the full size screens cheaper than ordering them from the window manufacturer. We schedule them to come out and explain what we want and he says "These screens slide up. Why not just slide them up?" Indeed, why not. He handled it very gracefully - having him come out for an estimate, just to have him need to show us how the windows work. It would have been nice if C2 knew the products they sell well enough to know they did that. On C2's last visit to the house, we showed them how the screens slide up and it seemed to be news to them. Good thing that other screen contractor saved us the money of ordering new, unneeded screens.
Second, the three front windows on the mail level have half-circle fixed glass above the regular double-hung windows. On the day of install they remove the old windows and install the new ones, only to find that the half-circle parts above the main windows are the wrong size - too small. They spend extra time using extra material to make a good seal around the undersized top windows and tell us they will order the correct size windows ASAP and contact us about installing them, that it should take 2 to 3 hours. That was May 24th. After hearing nothing for all of June and July, on Aug 8 we reached out to them to find out about them. What do you know, the windows were there at C2's office and they could install the following week. They did install them the following Wednesday, but it took about 6 hours instead of the 2 to 3 hours. But after all was said and done, it does look good finally having the right windows in place.
Third, when they did the original window install on 24 May, they left a mess. It took hours to clean up all the dust, small pieces of drywall, and random bits of plastic left over the floor and furniture. I could understand some dust, this was way over the top. read more
