The replacement went exactly the way he said and took no longer than the time that was estimated. There were no added fees, just the rate I was quoted. We'll continue to use them for our HVAC needs. COVID note, the last tech (Chris) wore a mask the entire time and was mindful of social distancing, which was appreciated.

I recently had Block Electric do a pretty major job for me on an older house. They were…read morerecommended by my realtor after purchasing the house. The job was a re-wiring of the place - most of the existing wiring was old (very old!) knob and twist. My insurance company wouldn't cover it unless it was updated. Block quoted me an original amount to do the work, and he stayed at that amount even though some aspects of the job ended up costing him more than expected. They ended up removing almost all the original wiring, putting in new outlets through plaster walls, and putting in hard-wired smoke and carbon monoxide detectors that are all wired together. They had to do a couple other things in order to get the wiring all the way up to code. (Urbana Electrical code is very specific and very involved.) When I stopped by to check on the work, they were always willing to explain what they were doing and how the progress was going. I really appreciated this, especially since I don't know very much about electrical work. They also put in a circuitbreaker instead of a fusebox and helpfully labelled all the circuits. Further, they set up the circuits in a really logical way, with more energy-requiring outlets having their own breaker. My only caveat is that it was originally hard to schedule the work, which I suspect was because I was trying to do so just before the holidays. But once we had settled on the date, Dan Block and his crew were there bright and early, and did so each day after that. If I need any more electrical work done, I will be calling Block Electric. They did an excellent job and were very fair about the price.

Block was there in 30 minutes, assessed the situation, and called in three more guys. They were not going to leave me without power in a dangerous situation! 6 hours later they had fixed all the mistakes that had been made in the 25 years of bad electricians being in there, installed a completely new box, matching breaker, and a new main. We have an American Standard furnace that is 9 years old (originally installed by a different, now-defunct heating company). I became suspicious of the aging inducer motor as it was loud and, suddenly one cold day, we were no longer getting heat and the red-green LED indicator lights on the furnace were flashing a code for service. For HVAC service, there are many providers in our area, but we went with one based on a recommendation of a family we know--we chose to try P&P Heating and Cooling Service. Scheduling was easy with great help from office manager, Stephanie, and we met Daren as he arrived, right on time, to help us out. Within a few minutes, he confirmed the diagnosis of a bad inducer and left to get one from his warehouse. A few minutes later, Daren called me and told me great news: he had the exact motor needed for my furnace (so we didn't have to wait for an ordered motor) and, in the meantime, he contacted American Standard directly for us and had the new motor covered under our American Standard warranty! He went above-and-beyond, in our minds, by doing this for us. I sincerely feel that Daren treated us with the same honest care--including checking the warranty coverage--that he would provide for himself or his own family. We are extremely pleased with our first experience with P&P, and will call on them for our service needs going forward. One day, all of us homeowners will be in need of service, and it is then that the value of a reliable and honest local provider becomes crucial. The technician arrived, goes into the laundry room and looks at the Whirlpool washing machine and tells me outright "we don't fix that issue" based only on my description of the problem. He didn't even touch the washer until he could see I was visibly annoyed. Later he looked at it for about 15 minutes and then told me it wasn't the suspension rods as he suspected (though "(we) won't repair those at all because they'll just break again in three months.") His estimate to repair the direct drive (motor? gears?) was $850. The washing machine didn't cost that much brand new. What made it even more frustrating was that he was on the phone with a technician asking about the washing machine WHILE looking at it. I don't think this guy is an appliance repair person, but perhaps some other trade? He then repeatedly informs me that Purcell sells washers and dryers. Yay. Next up he went to the kitchen to inspect the dishwasher. Once again I describe the issue to him (which we did when we set up the appointment) and tells me AGAIN without touching the dishwasher. "You need a new control board... the parts cost on those is $550." Once again, he didn't do anything except push the buttons on the control panel and looked at the dishwasher filter. And also once again, the PART COST is higher than the cost of the dishwasher. And again he tells me Purcell sells dishwashers too (just my luck!) and we can get $50 off if we buy one - because we paid $150 in service fees. What. A. Joke. This place sells appliances and is not affiliated with the previous owners of the repair service we had used in the past. They've been open for a year - selling appliances, but also offering the following services - and I quote: Heating and Cooling Commercial Refrigeration Electrical Repairs Cooktop repair Range installation Appliance repair Stove repair Dryer installation Freezer repair Grill repair Microwave repair Range hood repair Trash compactor repair Washer repair Appliance installation Range repair Stove installation Dishwasher repair Dryer repair Garbage disposal repair Ice maker repair Oven repair Refrigerator repair Vacuum repair I'm out $150 and this place is laughing all the way to the bank. I ended up paying $560 to have hair removed from drains, which a plumber certainly could have fixed for far less money. Quality plumbing should not assume the general public has plumbing knowledge, and instead ask them a few questions before referring them to a company that charges more than twice as much.
