It was .77/per mile and i drove it for 15 miles. The guy told me about insurance, said it was $79, I said I didn't want insurance, but was told that I HAD TO HAVE IT. I really needed a truck so I begrudgingly accepted the insurance. I was then told that the truck had to be back before 7am the next morning or I'd be charged for another day. I returned the truck at 11pm the same day. A week later I get my credit card statement and it has a $189 charge from budget! I called to find out why my bill was so high. The guys goes on to say that I didn't return the truck on time and I was charged for 2 days. I told him I returned the truck at 11pm. He said that the truck was not checked in until 830am. Now I went over his head and contacted Budget corporate. I explained what was going on and they said to work it out with the rental guy (that was very helpful). I then went on a twitter rampage and started blasting the shit out of them. After this, I get contacted by Budget corporate, more willing to help me (figures). I ended up proving that I returned the truck at 11pm with a gas receipt, so that charge was taken care of. Corporate also informed me that insurance IS NOT mandatory. I freaked out! They put me on a 3way call with the rental guy who flat out called me a liar. He said he suggested the insurance and I accepted. When I said otherwise, he just kept saying that I was lying and that he would never tell a customer the insurance was mandatory. I ended up paying $130 for one stupid day. The following week I rented a truck from uhaul, it was a bigger truck, went the same distance, and it cost me $40. The Budget on Rt.23 in Wayne is run by a con man. DON'T EVER GO THERE!

Rewind 5 years ago and I lead an organization that rented (or tried to) two trucks weekly for approx. 10 weeks. Most of the time, the trucks were not there when we needed to pick them up (3PM) , there was an endless list of mechanical issues WE had to figure out how to work around, botched reservations and the like. Well, I tried renting this week and the same issues are still present. Imagine going to a restaurant where you needed a reservation to get in and known for the best tomahawk steak , only to be told there were no more tomahawk steaks available or they couldn't cook them at that location but you could have instead Wagu beef at their sister location 20 minutes away. Sure they weren't going to charge you full price for it, and yes they would work with me by throwing in a free dessert but I made a reservation for a steak at that location for a reason. Maybe the meal was the precursor to another event starting at a specific time and because they did not have stock or the ability cook a steak , you the customer has to make the adjustment. And that's what they don't get. I made a reservation to pick up a specific size truck at a specific location at a specific time, all of which they confirmed but changed it the closer to pick up time/date I got. Imagine being told your move has to be changed because we can't supply enough trucks for out customers when they want them, where they want them. The delay cost me an extra $400 in labor waiting around for me to arrive with a truck and that delay impacted the next day's move. The front line associates think calling the customer in advance to offer an alternate vehicle/time/location is acceptable. Well it's not. Shame on you for introducing more stress to an already stress situation; what move isn't!?! I'd rather show up with a red wagon and take my chances moving safely. Penske Parsippany, you truly suck and thanks for making what should have been a fun and memorable experience for us stressful, unnecessarily difficult and something we'd rather forget. I'll never recommend you for rentals; you're way too unreliable and cannot meet customer demand. If I could give this place zero stars I would. Look elsewhere folks, this company couldn't give a crap about providing product and service. They're more interested in prying your money away out of your wallet than providing the solution you're paying for.

This is the SECOND time my boyfriend & I have rented a moving truck from this location only to be charged a $100 late fee - even though both times the truck was returned on time! On top of that, they give you the biggest run around trying to get a refund. First you have to call the location, then you have to call the district, then you have to call the location- its a complete exercise in futility. Then apparently some guy named Frankie- who is about as hard to get a hold of as The Wizard of Oz- never returns calls and is never in the office when he's needed. And their computer systems are so archaic that he is the only one who knows why they applied this charge to our account?? Yet he's conveniently never around. All I can say is SCAM, SCAM, SCAM!! I would strongly recommend if you value your time, money & sanity you rent a truck from someone OTHER than Penske!!

The vans were not wrecks at all. One was older, two were brand new, all were roadworthy. Rosalie helped me with all of them. She is friendly, efficient, knows her stuff. She was careful to document any dents before I left the lot, and she took the time to help figure out the right mileage quota, and familiarize me with the particulars of the controls and dashboard of each vehicle. She made the process easy.

They are good to deal with but you need to be prepared for stuff to break down. Recalling my rentals over the years, I would say that there is a 60% chance that the maintenance issues made things take longer than they should. I am no master mechanic, but I am pretty handy and resourceful. I can usually make the repairs or figure out how to get around the problems. It usually ends with an apology and a discount on the rental. I have rented from places worse than this.
