This South Philly appliance store has been opened since the beginning of time. My mom prefers coming to C&D over Lowe's or Home Depot for convenience, competitive pricing, faster delivery & most importantly, good customer service, where they treat you as a neighbor rather than just a transaction. I recently came here with my mom bc she finally wanted to get a new fridge. It was on a Monday- they were able to send the guys over on the same day to measure the fridge & doorway space, which was great. We went back Tuesday morning to order the Frigidaire fridge that she fell in love with at first sight- she said it was the perfect height & size for her. On Wednesday, I received a call saying it can be delivered within the next hour- we were excited but unfortunately, when they unpacked the fridge off their truck, it was damaged so they had to order a new one. Long story short, the fridge was delivered on Thursday & my mom loves it. Everything went smoothly- shoutout to Carl who helped us- we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Of course the air conditioner that cools your entire downstairs Philadelphia rowhouse breaks during the record heat wave we just had. No one had any 18,000 BTU air conditioners in stock in the Philadelphia area. I went back to C&D Appliance because they helped me out when I needed a window air conditioner in a hurry at the end of last season when no one was stocking them any longer and I remembered they gave me a good price. After some helpful suggestions and checking to make sure everything would fit my needs I settled on an LG and was given an excellent price that was lower than any of the big box houses or Amazon. Dishonest business practices!!! I am very disappointed with C&D Appliances after being hit with a $75 cash charge on top of what we were originally told. We purchased a washer and dryer here because we'd rather support a small business than Home Depot or Lowes. We were told delivery fee was $35 and when we asked about installation we were told it was included in the $35. (The machines we bought were the same price at home Depot, and a sign at home Depot said delivery and installation was included, but again we felt it was important to support local business and didn't mind an extra $35). We called later (after research and shopping around) to purchase the units. We payed over the phone and didn't receive an invoice or a verbal breakdown of the cost, but we did the math and the amt we were charged worked out to the two units, plus $35, plus tax. Over the phone they asked if we have a cord for the dryer, we were not sure and they said don't worry, the delivery guys can check, but they didnt mention anything about an extra charge. When the delivery guys came, they claimed their sheet just said delivery and it would be extra to purchase hoses and venting and install. He said "oh unless you have $40 we can do it" then he goes out to his car, comes back and says he talked with the shop and it'll be $75 for everything. I explain I thought we already paid for installation and then I call the shop myself. They put me on hold for a minute and then tell me yes, it's an extra $75. At this point I'd rather have the things hooked up than be left with more work so I tell them to go ahead. The whole time they were very vague about what exactly the $75 covered, saying things like "oh this hose is $20, this piece is $20...the $75 is mostly for parts" when they're done I ask for an invoice and they say oh sure they can make up a receipt with the 75 on there, if I give him my email. He says I have to give him cash or call the shop back and pay over the phone. He needs that taken care of before he leaves. Meanwhile they have me sign an invoice with no prices listed, and he writes in pen "cord hoses venting install $75" I later received an emailed "paid" invoice with prices, however again "dryer cord /vent bucket /hoses / setup" is lumped together under one $75 charge. We didn't even receive a vent bucket since we were able to run the dryer hose outside. I expressed multiple times that this was not what I was originally told and it would have been great to know all the costs upfront. I was never given an apology from either the delivery crew or the shop. They seemed very eager to get their cash and leave and it was very obviously a scam or "hidden cost." The whole ordeal was very obviously dishonest and I was not treated with respect as a customer. Needless to say I won't be back and will tell everyone I know to avoid this shop. read more

BUYER BEWARE. SCAM ALERT. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!! Dealing with this disreputable business has been nothing short of a nightmare. The point person I dealt with was Walter and he is an especially vile, rude and dubious individual. I bought a washer and dryer after both of mine went on the fritz and when they left their business card in my door, I thought it was a godsend. I would soon find out out that it was actually hellsent, as the level of frustration and unprofessionalism I endured was so breathtakingly unimaginable that I had to enlist a family member to take over the business dealings. First, they encouraged me to pay with cash or debit and NOT credit( Remember this fact for later) . I thought that I was getting a deal of about 30 bucks off for using debit on top of the President's Day savings I had received. I took the measurements of everything carefully and relayed it to them (I have a small non-renovated south philadelphia basement with extremely small passageways). The washer went in fine, but sure enough, as my luck would have it, the dryer didn't. It had a protruding upper back that the company did not account for and I had to re-order another dryer. When I found one, I figured Walter would honor the President's Day prices considering i bought the dryer on that day and it was not my fault the dryer didn't fit. However, he unceremoniously disabused me of that notion. Water became indigent at the idea of giving me any discount whatsoever, refused to give me the original President's Day sale pricing and became belligerent and rude as I tried to negotiate a deal. I ended up between a rock and hard place since I paid debit (remember them encouraging me to pay with cash or debit I mentioned earlier? Now I realized why! ). My money was gone and I was now fully at the mercy of this company and they fully exploited the fact that they had me over a barrel. Twice I was promised by Walter that he would have his workers install the new piece I had to purchase from Home Depot and he failed to produce them. He never had any intention on providing me with service after he secured my funds that was only a few dollars shy of a thousand dollars. STAY AWAY from this person and always, always, always use CREDIT when purchasing big items. I imagine my experience would have been smoother had I had an option to dispute my charges and had him pick up his goods. Shameful business practices. Aggregious customer support. They had a much wider selection, and the sales team knew a lot more about the products than at a big box store. The specialty dryer I wanted needed to come from overseas and it did take a while for it to come, but c and d kept me updated. Their install crew was stellar, getting the units to my 3rd floor was not easy but they took great care to make sure it got done without any damage to my home. Had a great experience here today! I called ahead and spoke to Carl about an air conditioner unit. The price was right so I headed up to the store. I easily found parking nearby (on a weekday) and walked in. The process for purchasing was quick and easy. If you know what you want, call ahead to see if they have it and go pick it up. But do not go here to shop around. I needed a dehumidifier pronto as a result of ton much moisture condensing from a plaster project in my house. Every other mom and pop store I called around to told me it would take a week to get the one I wanted. C&D told me they could get it in for me the next day. And they did at a price similar to what was listed at the big box stores. What I didn't like was the experience of picking it up. As customer service oriented as they were on the phone, they were the exact opposite in person. They have two spaces with orange cones in front of the store with a sign "Customer Parking". I moved a cone to park there and told the guy I was a customer picking something up. He told me he likes to reserve it for his trucks and was just a jerk about it. The store was horrifying. Dirty. Disorganized. TV blaring. Appliances looked like they had been siting there for years collecting dust. He was more interested in talking to his friend than in getting me rung up and out the door. I was recommended to C&D through a satisfied customer. They were totally knowledgable of my type of refrigerator (in cabinet) - recommended a few models - and were totally honest about delay in delivery with certain models. I chose a Bosch- - -delivery was extremely difficult (the building in which I live was VERY difficult with the delivery process) - BUT it all worked out fine!!! Sales and delivery were outstanding, but what happened between them was awful. C&D has in-depth knowledge of the products they sell. They were able to tell us immediately which washers and dryers could fit down a narrow staircase. At delivery, C&D carefully disassembled and reassembled the new and existing units so they could be moved through the staircase. The problems happened between sale and delivery. C&D told us they could deliver with 10 days and we paid in advance. They didn't actually deliver until more than two months later. Six weeks after they missed their first delivery estimate, they stopped returning our calls. They already had our money, and we had to go back to the store to get a response and a new delivery date. I'd buy from them again but only if the appliance was available for immediate delivery, and if they couldn't deliver on their first estimated date, I'd go with an alternative. read more

This was my second time using C&D to purchase and install appliances and it was, again, a great experience. My washer and dryer died and I went to the showroom with measurements of the existing machines and the space where new ones would go. I also brought pictures of the area. Walter identified the two models that would fit and I went with the smaller one to make sure there would be no issue getting it into the tight space. Walter was knowledgeable, polite, and conscientious. He got the appliances in as quickly as possible with the holiday. The installers arrived on time and got the old washer and dryer out of a ridiculously tight space with no issues or damage to the surrounding walls. These men are a bunch of liars and thieves. I have never been treated with such disrespect or neglect by any professional. All I needed was a simple dryer installation, which turned into a week long project which they refused to finish. They showed up twice to tell me they needed a part we did not have (The same part both times). Today I went in for an emergency purchase for my business, and I was fortunate to find what I needed, and get it delivered within an insanely quick timeline. My husband and I purchased our washing machine f rom C & D Appliances. They had exactly what we wanted, and for a reasonable price. They were also able to deliver our machine quickly. I definitely recommend C & D Appliances. They have a nice selection, good prices, and make deliveries 4 days a week to different parts of Philadelphia as well as New Jersey. Something else I'd like to add is, since we live in South Philadelphia, we had to buy a washer that is collapsible/breaks down/apart. So in other words, they have to have the washer in parts first, bring it in, and put it back together in the basement, because of the size of the entrance way and lack of space going down into our basement. Not many stores have these types of washers. Home Depot's and Lowe's do not offer these types of washing machines, but C & D Appliances does. read more

I needed a washer and dryer that would fit in my south Philly basement. Home Depot & Lowes just don't have the knowledge that a place like this has. C&D are very friendly and knowledgeable and have lots of experience getting appliances into tight spaces. We purchased Speed Queens. They were delivered within a week. The delivery men were excellent! They broke down the old washer and dryer and installed the new ones very quickly and efficiently. They were very respectful and clean. They put down quilts to place the machine parts on so they wouldn't scratch up the floor. They were very considerate of the fact that I have pets and were careful not to let them out. When everything was installed, they gave me tips for using my new machines. I would highly recommend them. read more

The owner is a thief shipped defective gas range to my place the electric pilots only worked on two burners called owner said would be out there next day. Never showed kept calling then finally showed up at place said I would've returned it right away except said would fix it said no warranty not their problem. We have purchased four appliances here. THe first worked although the delivery person was angry. The second appliance did not work as advertised but we eventually found a way to make it work. The third appliance has major problems. And the fourth appliance broke down after 18 months of normal, even minimal use. This dealer is great about delivering but not good about caring about the quality of its products. As regular customers we expected at least some level of concern, and maybe an offer for a replacement at a lower price - or something! But all they did was provide the name of a repair person, the cost of which would almost equal a second appliance. Check out other places first. read more

Last year we purchased a washer and dryer from C&D. C&D Appliances put the dryer together wrong - causing the thermostat to misread the temperature. The dryer was dangerously overheating; baking our clothes and creating a terrific burning smell that permeated our clothing and home. C&D also didn't install the rubber seal around the dryer door - it was left hanging below the door inside the dryer). We have a 23" basement trap door and were limited to the type of washer/dryer and number of local installers. Wish I had chosen Northeast when I purchased/installed the washer/dryer. C&D installers were rude, left a mess and clearly did not do a proper job installing a gas dryer - which created a hazardous situation. read more

This place is the worst. I actually purchased 2 appliances from them - they're right up the street from me and I wanted to support local businesses. After being very helpful in the sale and getting my deposit, the guy was downright rude, hanging up on me and also telling me on the phone when I explained I was not going to give him the balance due until the job was done to the specifications we agreed upon (he was supposed to have his guys install a shut-off valve for my gas range, for which I paid extra, and they didn't do it), he actually said me to, "Get your ass down here and pay me!" and hung up. These guys are great. Could not figure out how to fit a washer into my basement (25" max opening). Called them, they explained older Maytag's and Kenmore's could be partially disassembled to be installed (I had a 10 year old Kenmore). Now apparently the only manufacturer you can do this with is SpeedQueen. Did research on SpeedQueen - they are commercial grade washers / dryers. Ended up getting an AWN542 Top Loader. The guys came out, removed the old washer by ripping it to shreds, and installed the new one flawlessly. Could not be happier. read more

really am having the worst time with this store. purchased a gas range and refrigerator in november. the door of the refrigerator would pop open so i called the store and was told to adust the wheels on bottom. did that. nothing work so called back dan and told him the freezer door just opens and the two door hit, he sends out the delivery guys who dont know what to do, they said a guy would come out and it proabley need a washer, week later in novemeber he comes out works on it for about a hour and then said to me , i just saw the problem the refriegator is damage at the hinges , dan was called assured me i would get new one, i have called every week since november, and was told waitng for rep from frigdaire company. well its now almost february and still dont have new refrigerator, so yesterday call frigadaire company and was told what is he talking about you should have had it right away. this man has made me wait from november and as of today still dont have new refrigerator , i have had to throw out chicken cause the freezer door opens ice cream is soft, and keep calling and get the run around. when i paid him for the refrigerator it took one day to get it, why is he taking so long to get me a new one. the worst customer service company that I have ever dealt with. why couldnt he order me one and then get replacement from frigadaire . because he doesnt care he has my money. every thing that i tell you is document with bb and frigeradire, so be careful with them and if you buy from them use credit card so if there is a problem the credit card people will help you. i am now about 10 weeks with a damage product. so be very careful of this company. read more
