They appeared to be working harder and faster than any other roofing crew I had seen, and they got the job done in 3 or 4 days instead of the typical 5. When I got a letter from my home insurance company stating that they would cancel me if I didn't get a new roof (the same thing has happened to most of my neighbors, I suspect), I called Alex Perez Roofing, plus two other companies for comparison. Alex himself came out, and he spent a long time talking to me and my partner about the job. He answered all of our questions. He didn't have a slick sales presentation like the other two roofing companies that we called. As a former roofer himself, he was more focused on explaining the dynamics and the work of the job, rather than trying to get us to agree to a a top-tier "premium roof package." Unsurprisingly, his bid came in lower than the other two companies I called. In an apples-to-apples comparison (50 year warranty, special venting at the top of the roof line) his company had the best value. His guys showed up on time, worked hard, were very polite, and left the job site clean. On the office side, Alex's staff kept me well-appraised on where we were in the process, and when invoices were due. When additional dry rot was discovered after the roof was pulled off, his office staff emailed me a comprehensive report and photos, and they had a lengthy phone conversation with me about it at my request, ensuring that all of my questions were answered. Alex also dropped by the job site regularly to check on things. The whole crew struck me as honest, regular working people just trying to get the job done, never trying to upsell me on any special packages, warranties, or guarantees. The Duramax team came out daily, working around some rain, to replace all rotted plywood, apply an excellent underlayment, and then install the metal roof with continuous vents. The owner came out 1 time to collect the cash. We walked the property and he found a couple things he thought should be changed, and I asked about a couple other things. He sent guys out, they were supposed to call and book it but just showed up, to fix those areas. After a small rain, I notices a leak in the gutters, so he sent a guy out to fix that, again, no call, just showed up. From the beginning, I asked him about a couple issues and he kept saying he would send someone out but never did. After the next rain, I sent him text, this is how we communicated from the beginning, how the water was coming over the gutters right in my front door entrance. I can't go in or out without getting wet. I also told him there was a seam between the house and garage I was concerned about. For several months we sent text and I sent pictures back and forth. He refused to come out or send anyone and has since stopped even communicating with me. Now I'm seeing that my roof line is sagging. Quality and craftmanship of the custom gutters are horrible. My next step will be to call the roof inspectors and have it checked, the BBB, roofing contractors board and GAF the roof material company that they are supposed to be top roofers for. There are several other complaints I have not listed. I was unable to inform them of these because he refused to come out and texting was not getting anywhere. If I would have known the great price would have come with subpar work, I would have paid someone else more to do the job right.
