We enrolled my son, who just completed Kindergarten, in the Buildologie camp for two consecutive weeks in July. Overall, I think Bytes and Bots and the camps are great. Here are my comments for parents: 1. The staff here are engineers, NOT childcare professionals. This is not a negative against the instructors, but parents should know this going in. Your child needs to be completely self-sufficient and have all the food and water they need for the day as the camp doesn't monitor this for them (which again, is fine). 2. Your child will be indoors most of the day and there isn't a lot of physical activity. My son had a hard time going to bed after robot camp because he didn't get enough activity during the day. Again, this isn't a negative, just something to be aware of. 3. Your child needs to know the basics of using a computer. If they can't control a mouse yet, this is not the place for them to learn. Teach them at home and then send them here. 4. With all of that said, my son (who just turned 7) LOVED it! The skills the kids build - with the computer, with basic coding and building, is awesome. And, they all get a chance to practice presenting at the end of the week when they show off their project. My son will definitely be back next summer! read more

I am not that kind of person who usually left a review but, this time I got angry as a mother. When I tried to find summer camp for 6 years old, I found this Mathobotix. It said 6 years old can sign up. It's been just two days since he started taking this summer camp. But, Teacher said my son doesn't know how to use computer and he can't understand in this class. Ok, find! But it's been just two days and teachers supposed to teach them from very beginning. The worst part is Teacher said bad things(kids not.smart enough) about my son to me and my nanny IN FRONT OF MY SON. Who does that??? What kind of teacher says like that to parents in front of their kids?? After class my son asked me that 'mommy, am I not good?" I'm so mad as a mother. And I almost cried it was really hurt to listen when my son said like that. He's never heard that kind of thing from teachers, all teachers said he is really good and focus well and he really likes to learn. However, He never learned how to use computer and everything in this class is new to him. I watched how teacher teach my son. In a mean voice ' hey, just click the student sign' so I ask teacher that ' did you teach how to use computer?, what the click mean is?' The teacher said ' no, I show him first day.' What...???? So I ask him one more time 'do you know what my son's age? ' Any way, I talked with manager and he told me he will full refund and take my son now. He told me that he will refund today so take my son and leave!!! And I left with my son. After few hours the owner called me and he wanted know what happened so I tried to explain everything and asked him just full refund like your manager said to me. He said money is not a issue he wants to fix this problem. How can he fix it? It's already happened. Who send their children after this kind of situation? The point is the owner doesn't want to refund. The owner kept on saying wow you're really upset. Of course, I'm upset because I am the MOTHER!!! read more

Mathobotix has been a Godsend for my son! He has a strong interest in robotics, programming and technology. Unfortunately, the schools do not offer STEM training for smart kids. Mathobotix fills that need for us. The work he's doing there now will help him get into a good college like MIT. There's nothing like Mathobotix out there - that's why we make the long drive from South O.C. to Irvine every week. It's the best program for kids who are interested in technology. My son has been a part of Mathobotix for years and has enjoyed the Lego Mindstorm projects where he learned to build and program robots. Then he moved into coding and learning how to write programs on a Raspberry Pi computer which has been amazing. The staff know how to work with STEM-minded kids and help them develop their skills. Their advertising and reality were completely different. The teacher of the class is very rude to students and guardian They DO NOT know how to teach young students. Teachers must be trained how to teach students and take care of young age if they advertised that even younger students could register. This summer camp left a bad memory for the child. read more

My 8-year old was very interested in Robotics and was referred to Mathobotix by a friend. I scheduled a free lesson for him and was very impressed by how well this lab is run. My son has been attending Buildologie for three months now and we are very happy about it. Coaches are highly knowledgeable and they have a passion to work with kids. Program is very professionally run with kids being monitored on the skills the master. Also after every project kids need to present to the overall student body which helps them develop their social skills and gain confidence. Kudos for Mathobotix! read more

I have 10 year old twins, a boy and girl, and they both love attending Mathobotix to learn about electronics and computer programming. They are very different kids, especially since they are of both genders, so it is interesting to see how they both enjoy their computer projects in such different ways. Since my son was a kindergartner he always found math and computers fascinating. He would spend hours putting together 'Scratch' programs on the computer, and when he began Mathobotix in the summer before 3rd grade, he was super excited, and rapidly progressed through more and more advanced projects. What was particularly helpful for my son is that the young tutors are not just good at software programming, they also genuinely enjoy working with kids. You see, my son is very socially awkward and has a hard time with cooperation, and after explaining this to his 2 tutors last year, they made sure that my son had extra guidance when working together with other kids on small group projects. The outcome is that, friendship-wise, my son is learning how do complex team projects together and has become better at cooperating. It helps that the other kids their share his love of tinkering. Without the Mathobotix tutors, he would not be doing as well on these projects if he was just doing them alone at home. My daughter has equally interesting experience, but from an utterly different perspective. She has never been one to gravitate to math. As a matter of fact, growing up she was always very social with other kids, playing with dolls, and drawing, and and learning about animals. We decided to have her also do Mathobotix, although she was not excited by the prospect. We thought it would at least introduce a tech skill to her, and as it got more advanced she could drop it if she didn't like it. I have to say that some parts of the early classes bored her, but when she was able to help choose and design the projects, she created some programs that involved her interests. For example, 2 summers ago she wrote the software for a game where the goal is to help a lost dog get back to its owner, and she was so excited by this project that she worked hard to learn some very technical things (software programming that is far beyond what I can even begin to understand) that she previously was frustrated by, such as the codes required to render and move lines and shapes. Now she enjoys Mathobotix and asks to go back. We are beginning 5th grade and homework has gotten busier so we are taking a little break from Mathobotix, but we will be going back in the spring. With software increasingly becoming integrated with our lives, I want my kids to be able to be comfortable with computers and get behind the scenes of producing things with the computer, rather than only being a consumer of things created with the technology. read more

My son looks forward to having the Mathobotix class and super excited each week after he had his first Mathobotix class a couple of months ago. He really have learned a lot and found much fun when he made the customized programmed toy by himself under the direction of one-on-one tutoring of the mentor. The employees there are very nice.
