Love to find a gluten free restaurant in AC for celiacs! The Byrd Cage is a gluten free kitchen (note-they do have regular/non gluten free hamburger and sandwich rolls.) The menu is a little varied-hamburgers, roast beef sandwiches, crab cakes, soups, and pasta. I had the burger which was delicious followed by the shecrab soup, and banana pudding. The shecrab was full of crab. The pudding was quite good, almost as good as Magnolia's Bakery. They're on Ubereats so I ended up having it delivered to my hotel. My partner and I were recently in AC from Philadelphia for our anniversary. There aren't many queer-specific spaces in AC, but Byrdcage had great reviews as a friendly neighborhood bar/restaurant, so we tried it for dinner. It's cute, clean and quiet, with a retro-'90s-gay-bar vibe: The Birdcage playing on multiple TVs and kitschy decor throughout. The staff were friendly and accommodating...until they weren't. We know Atlantic City is an expensive tourist trap, so $18 nachos didn't shock us. We were in the mood for trashy bar food and each ordered a plate: my partner got chicken, I got beef. Before ordering, I specifically confirmed the beef was GROUND beef, not steak, and was assured it was. The nachos were fine, but my "ground beef" was very clearly pre-made hamburger patties--probably frozen--broken into pieces, not seasoned ground beef prepared for nachos. But again: bar food. We also each ordered a $12 dessert: chocolate mousse with whipped cream for him and banana custard for me. What arrived was basically chocolate and banana pudding, likely straight from an industrial can. Okay then. The real problem came with the bill: we were charged an additional $10 for the chicken and $7 for the beef, the latter appearing only as a generic line item. The menu CLEARLY says: "choice of jerk chicken, beef or seasonal veggies." It says absolutely nothing about an upcharge. Everyone understands that if a listed choice costs extra, the menu needs to SAY so. In no world am I paying $28 for nachos with chicken. I brought this to the attention of the bartender and our waiter, and the bartender actually AGREED that the menu clearly says "choice of" implying you choose which one you want on your $18 nachos. The waiter, however, was argumentative and it became very awkward. Ultimately and reluctantly the additional charges were removed, with the caveat that "next time" we visit we will know. PRIDE, PORK CHOPS & PURE JOY AT BYRDCAGE ATLANTIC CITY Atlantic City was absolutely glowing this weekend during the Atlantic City Great Pride Festival at O'Donnell Park near Stockton University. More than 1,000 people were expected to attend, and the energy was incredible--music, dancing, laughter, and love everywhere you looked. Just two short blocks from the festival at 3426 Atlantic Avenue sits one of Atlantic City's true gems: Byrdcage Atlantic City. I stopped in throughout the day to cool off, enjoy some mimosas and other refreshing low-alcohol beverages, hydrate, and eventually have dinner. From the moment I walked in, I immediately got why this place has such a loyal following. First, the cleanliness deserves its own paragraph. I have visited restaurants all over the country, and I honestly don't remember seeing an establishment this spotless. The interior and exterior were immaculate. Not a spot of dust. Even during one of the busiest days of the year, the restrooms remained roomy, pristine, and exceptionally clean. The atmosphere is equally impressive. The décor is whimsical, fun, and carefully curated with fascinating photos and memorabilia everywhere you look. Outside, colorful murals create the perfect backdrop for photos and add even more personality to an already vibrant space. And then there was dinner. My server, Isabella, was friendly, attentive, and incredibly efficient. She even arranged for a dinner entrée to be served before dinner service had officially begun, and I was so grateful she did. I ordered the Seoul Mate Sizzle Pork Chop Platter, and wow. A beautifully grilled bone-in pork chop glazed in a sweet and savory sauce and served over fresh pineapple salsa, alongside creamy herb rice and perfectly cooked vegetables including broccoli, zucchini, onions, mushrooms, and carrots. The pork chop was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor, and the pineapple salsa took it to another level. It was one of those meals where you intentionally slow down because you don't want it to end. And the music? The music made me dance almost all day and well into the night. There was something happening everywhere--at the Pride Festival, downstairs, and upstairs on the dance floor. The DJs absolutely nailed it. Great music, great energy, and great people. I honestly lost track of time because I was having so much fun. Management was everywhere--engaged, attentive, and laser-focused on every detail of the operation. The entire team worked together seamlessly to create something special. More than anything, Byrdcage felt like what every establishment should aspire to be: a safe space filled with kindness, inclusion, acceptance, and pure joy. It was family-friendly, welcoming to everyone, and simply fun. I even bought a Byrdcage shirt at the festival because this is exactly the kind of local business I enjoy supporting. If you're visiting Atlantic City, don't just come for the casinos. Come for experiences like this. Come for the people. Come for the music. Come hungry. Come ready to dance. We were seated upstairs in the nightclub area as the downstairs is being renovated. It has an eclectic, funky vibe. There was live music when we sat down. It was a cabaret type of show. Our waiter came over right away to take our drink order. The cocktails were refreshing and they had a nice variety of unique flavors. The jerk chicken nachos was very good. They had a ton of pulled chicken and it had just the right amount of spice. I had the smash burger. It was juicy and tasty and had a yummy pickle, tomato relish on it. Several of our party ordered the chicken cutlet sandwich. They all agreed that the chicken was dry and overcooked and the roll was stale. We also ordered the goat cheese and fig jam burger and it seemed like the burger was just a frozen patty. After we ordered one drink and received our food, we barely saw our waiter. He did not ask if we wanted another drink or if we liked our food. Overall, we liked the vibe, the cocktails and the app. If I returned, I would only do cocktails and apps. read more

Stopped in after Pride festival I. The park across the street. To say I love a theme would be an understatement but this place leaned all the way in to the bird cage with feather plumes, taxidermied birds, bird wall paper and a birdcage for performers. I only had drinks but the staff were friendly and helpful with multiple places to experience the space. The outdoor patio was great for dancing. WOW! I absolutely adored the movie 'The Bird Cage,' and this restaurant/bar nailed the Hollywood filming experience. The staff was incredibly friendly and upfront about all the services and offerings. When I visited, it was karaoke night, and everyone really embraced the opportunity to showcase their talent. There was a bridal shower group in the crowd, and let me tell you, they had some amazing vocal divas among them who shut down any doubts about their singing abilities--LOL! It was an unforgettable night filled with fun, and I wholeheartedly recommend this place! And yes, the food was delicious and served piping hot. read more

Byrd Cage quite the spot Foo says very out loud and happy!! Stumbled in a very rainy night and was soaked and no one said anything about Foo and looking a mess! Grabbed barstool and Foo caught breath and settled down a bit. Foo, reviewer of this review, looked around and saw such pleasant bar and nice barman greeted Foo! He said, "Hi, how are you? Food or cocktails?" Foo said, "Both!" The cocktail list was nice and I wanted the bubble on a cosmo but went for Chimay! "I like Chimay, it's firewater," Foo says. The barman says, "Chuckles!" When time to do food, Foo gets sprouts, then Caesar salad and Chicken Pie from a pot that was stewing with crust, yummy like pastries. "How was your food and drink?" asked the barman. And so to answer good question, me, Foo, leaned back in the stool and go real serious face that was saying what I say is so serious. "Where do I Foo begin? I came in like wet cat and everyone say hi, I sit in comfy stool and drink beer made by a monk, sprouts crunch, Romaine's crisp and cold and chicken in a pie from a pot that has crust of butter. Foo shall return!" And then Foo puts a stack of grat on the bar and then we daps and hugs all round. "Xie xie," Foo, me, says as I tip my cap, open the door and step back into the AC rain. read more
