We talked for quite a long time about different things. I ended up buying some goodies and left happy. That was about 4 years ago or so. Fast forward to 2018 when my sister was visiting from Texas and I was taking her to my favorite spots. I remembered my great experience from before so I took her here. This time, a lady was there and I mentioned how much I loved that store and turns out she's the wife of the owner (so she's the co-owner)... I was looking at some pillowcases and the pair was marked at $18 which I thought was a decent deal. A little high since other places go for less but I like supporting local so I don't mind. When I went up to the counter, she informed me that even though one pillowcase was marked for $18, it was for each.. so I was surprised the total was $36. The lady was rather rude and when I was pulling my card out to pay she said, "We are a cash only business and if you had been here before, you would know that'. I won't return. I can't deal with people who are just lousy at customer service. She could have said, "Oh I am sorry, we only accept cash" but instead, she chose to be a jerk. Of course, my sister was like, "Wow, and you said this place was awesome; guess not". It's always a sad thing when you rave about how great a place is then when you take someone new, the place ends up being subpar. I left that store feeling sad and for my money, I would rather go down the street to the many other antique stores. *SIDE NOTE* I wish I could give the man I saw the first time 5 stars because he was tops.

Well, actually it is, because it's full of cool stuff. Think gift shop + art shop + boutique curio, and maybe that *starts* to describe the space. There are plenty of keepsakes, art supplies, and gift ideas that will run your tab up very quickly. It's all good stuff, mind you, but it's almost like they should have an "I'll take one of everything package". The front of the store is mostly boutique-ish and has a small up and downstairs. You can find gifts for just about anyone, and this is the kind of place where you can stuff stockings or get something unique for that special someone. If you need ideas, then ask one of the staff who are always willing to help. If you need specifics in the art department, then there is a station in the back to help you with various items such as paper types or other supplies. The unique nature of some of the items leads to perhaps some higher prices, but the value is spot on. You're finding gifts, not clipping coupons, so enjoy and shop a little. For everything that you think might be marked a little high, just remind yourself that you probably aren't going to find that in very many other places. And that's the fun of shopping: just browsing when you have the time and maybe the resources, looking at things that you didn't know you were going to find, and in this case, helping a great small business thrive.

Place has 3 floors total full of a variety of items to choose. Some areas you could barely walk through. It was difficult to find anyone to help you. I found several items with no prices on them. One item I really wanted, so they called the dealer and no answer. So they offered to take my number and hold it until further notice. Most of the things were over priced. On 1 item I asked if they would take a little less and made an offer, but she said I can only go 10% less because it's rare. I said I would take it. Then she went to take the tag off and said I can't do 10% because it's less then $30.00. The item was $28.00, so only $2.00 from receiving the 10% discount. Yes, I went ahead and bought it only because it's a Christmas present! Just the principle of the situation. Before I paid I simply asked if they charged a transaction fee if I used a debit or credit card. I was told that they charge 3% extra. I was just a little short of having enough cash, so I had to go the other route. After looking my receipt (I always ask for one) over and comparing it to my merchandise prices it was incorrect. In fact they charged 4% transaction fee. So my $28.00 "rare" item turned into being $29.12 plus 9.3% tax on top of that price, just an example. Another problem was the bathroom was closed or out of order. I'm not sure if it was really out of order or if they just didn't want all the people using it? If you needed to use the restroom it was like 10 blocks one way down the street! Needless to say I wasn't real happy with my overall experience here.

It bleeds personality--pure, unfiltered vintage glory. Every piece has a story, a vibe, maybe even a past life in a punk band. Dripping with legit retro energy, it doesn't dabble in throwbacks; it mainlines them straight to your soul. First time stepping in, I was hit with a full blast of cool. Effortlessly hip, unapologetically chill, peak Lawrence, Kansas. It's giving local legend, not tourist trap. I didn't buy anything--today. But wandering around was a blast. Every corner packed memories I forgot I had. This isn't just a shop; it's a time machine wrapped in flannel and funk. The guy working was a gem--super sweet. I wanted to give him my business. The donors are extremely generous; they donate items with a mind to funding programs. Proceeds from store sales got to a new program for kids called EMPOWER-U. The object of the program is to get kids who suffer from technology-induced isolation to come out and join in a fun, team sport or activity. They play; SSL pays. Stop and the store and ask about it.

I have brought in 4-6 things in and made a a fair amount of cash and another time with 3 bag loads and given lunch money. Staff is very immature, can be downright rude and tacky and another time be respectful and courteous. But the one thing that just really ticks me off is the fact that they want your clothes to be clean, in good condition and folded but if you're left with anything they won't take, they wad the item up and are in a heap in the bag like they mean for it to look like a trash bag! I prepare all my things for observation with care and its so disrespectful. I'm not saying only once, its everytime. Second hand store or not, they could show a bit more class.

They even offered me 10% more in store credit--and yeah, I considered it. There were some fire pieces that almost had me breaking my own rules. But let's be real: my closet is already a crime scene. The mission was purge, not relapse. Bottom line? If your closet's bursting with regrets and "what was I thinking" buys, ATC is your no-BS exit strategy. Cool staff, smooth process, no pressure.
