I am not exaggerating at all when I say dealing with BWH Services was the worst business experience I've ever had; personally or professionally. It was awarded the painting contract for our homeowners' association of which he was president at the time. Not only does the term 'conflict of interest' not exist in Ben Hamrick's vocabulary, his reaction when the issue is raised angers him beyond the point of civil behavior. I'm only giving BWH one star because it is not possible to give him no or negative stars. Pay close attention to reviews that mention his legal threats because that's his go to move when he's held to account. He's also quick to accuse you of threatening behavior, legal and otherwise. The painting itself was comically sloppy in places. Communication on progress of the work was virtually non-existent. Our Board had to initiate the final inspection process after not getting a progress update for months. Once the final inspection process was underway, he did address much of what was listed but, so much of that consisted inexcusable mistakes like missed areas and terrible overspray. We gave up before everything was addressed because weeks would go by without communication. And, when we did have contact, the excuses and accusations made the process unbearable. We complained to the Better Business Bureau looking for a partial refund but, that just provided BWH another forum to be unreasonable. No resolution was reached there. Ben Hamrick still claims he's willing to complete the work. But, his actions such as leaving the leftover paint at a board member's doorstep without permission say otherwise. I did the math. BWH had 286 business days to paint 17 modest sized units (over three weeks per unit) and never really finished and closed the job out professionally. All while accusing the customer of being unreasonable. My sincerest advice is to run, don't walk, to another contractor. I will share more details with anyone who would like to. It is important that business like this change their ways or don't get opportunity to aggravate more unsuspecting customers. read more

I had hired Ben and his company BWH Services based on comments I had received on social media recommending him. I contacted Ben and asked a lot of questions. Initially, he was prompt and I seemed to have a good working rapport with him. I had expanded the requested work from two rooms to include painting the exterior (mostly brick) and most of the interior walls (less doors, crown molding and baseboards). We also included a deck replacement (or "refacing" as Ben put it). We stressed to Ben innumerable times that we had family visiting in a couple of months and he assured me that all would be completed in time before they visited. At first there was some delay because I could not get a firm start date for the job. My messages (text, email) were unanswered, and I also called and left a message. So, I reverted back to social media requesting recommendations for a new painter since Ben seemed to go MIA. I find out much later that the lack of communication was due to a family emergency. Finally, the job starts and the painters tell me how long everything will take. Concerned, I removed the deck replacement off the list so we can meet our required deadlines. The painters were extremely fast and ahead of schedule (yellow flag!) and so, I asked Ben if we could add some additional work, like some lights and fan replacements. He agreed, and once again assured me that we would make the deadline. More time passed and we didn't hear of anyone coming by for a few weeks. One of Ben's employees (a handyman) came out and installed a few lights for us, but then told us he had to go to another site that is behind schedule, and that he would be back the next day. The next day comes and the handyman calls me and says one of the apartments he maintains has a water leak and will be back in the afternoon. Fast-forward a week and we urge the handyman to come by for a few hours and he agreed. More delays, and we do not hear from Ben for a couple of weeks. Frustrated with countless delays and personal emergencies, I emailed Ben and requested that the job end, as we have now passed our deadline. The next day I get a phone call from Ben, who is extremely agitated that I have called the job. I explain that we had a hard cut-off date, as I had explained previously. At this point, I feel like I am in 4th grade getting in trouble with the school principal. He tells me that he doesn't understand my sudden change of attitude and terminating the job. He describes my situation as "unsettled anger at a very minor issue" and how he is confused that my email was "accusatory and [had] negative tone". Truth is, my email was a formal request to terminate any ongoing work. He also informs me that he saw my social media post asking for a new painter, and goes on to tell me how he did not appreciate that. Again, this was in the beginning where communication was most important, and yet lacking. Ben becomes extremely unprofessional and defensive, and in the end, hangs up on me after he "vents". Ironically I was billed for "change in paint color" even though I did not receive the paint that they had bought initially. Because of the delays and poor communication from the beginning, I chose to do the touch-up and resolution of other issues myself. We also decided to find another company to do other tasks we had lined-up, including reflooring, decking, and bathroom remodeling. As for the quality of work itself, the paint job was certainly lacking. The painters did not apply a second coat of paint, despite that it was written into my contract. Ben tells me this was done, even though he was rarely onsite to follow-up. This also explains why they completed so quickly. I ran into an issue with the paint on the walls, and my paint store explained that the problem I was having was because a second coat was not applied. We also discovered that the painters had not properly prepped the walls, and we found "nail pops" in almost every room and wall they worked on. I will need to hire someone else to fix these issues. I would not recommend BWH Services for any services offered due to lack of communication, professionalism and quality of work. read more

The owner does sloppy work at best and has a demonstrated history of threatening and bullying any one who complains or writes a bad review. The current follow up prep and paint work estimate on the exterior of my home by a new contractor revealed BWH's paint job 4 years ago didn't include any scraping, sanding or priming prior to painting, resulting in my current repaint estimate increasing from $3900 to over $6000. He sent the following email to me after finding out I had submitted a negative review of his company to the BBB: " Please provide me with your attorney's contact information so my attorney can contact him or her to serve you for a defamation and libel suit. " And this was his email response to my final request for some sort of recourse for his poor workmanship: "When you put all of the above together you will see that you have rejected our good faith efforts to take care of any issues you had; you been inconsistent in your statements and your connection to the truth is tenuous at best; your latest demands are as disconnected with reality as you've shown yourself over the last 51 months. In brief,stop contacting me. I am not going to entertain any further contact from you. If you make the bad choice to bother me again I am going to file a complaint with the police and have you served with a restraining order. From what I can tell you are in desperate need of attention and I am not the one who has the patience to put up with you. For a memory stir you will see below one of your emails from 2016. LEAVE ME ALONE and stop harassing me." In short, Just. Don't. Edit; within an hour of posting this, I mysteriously received a call from someone claiming to be an attorney, wanting to verify my address to "serve me papers about a libel suit filed against me by BWH". Not sure what law school he went to but last I heard, free speech is still covered by the US Constitution, under Amendment #1, and the only defense you need against libel is the truth. read more

I'm happy to speak with anyone looking to work with Ben and his team as a reference.  Ben is a good sales person but his team is unable to execute and the customer service is some of the worst in Charlotte. His team installed the shingles around our skylight incorrectly, causing our house to flood (this was fixed, but after major delays and 3 rains that leaked into the house). Also, our shingles were installed incorrectly and are now against code (Ben hasn't answered any messages now that payment has been issued).  There were also 2 parts of our project we paid for that are incomplete that they never finished. It's part lazy, part incompetence with this team. Also, most disappointing part was after our small project took over 4 months to complete, after countless no shows, I told the team to pack up and remove their tools from my property and I was sent a text that said "Grow Up". Yes, the owner of this company sent "Grow Up" to a paying customer. Hindsight is 20/20 but I just hope to save others from headache, stress, and half-effort work on their home. read more

Here's what Ben will reply to you with AFTER you pay him: (I also have emails where he chooses to comment on my personal life) "I chose to pass on it and eat it as I told you. As you know you tried to blame us for all sorts of bizarre things that simply weren't true such as removing your exterior door hardware and taking down your doors and damaging them. Neither happened and you know it. I had to beg my people to come back to finish the work. Each trip to your house brought new accusations and arguments. I again wish you only the best and ask that you please drop this and stop trying to be jerk. The guy I met and talked to isn't one. Be well," Ben is eating a small amount of money for light covers on recessed lights, I offered to pay for (I have email records where I told him to send me the updated invoice I apparently missed). This is after paying him a 5-figure sum for work that still isn't really finished and that took from 4/23/18 til today, 6/25/18 to 'resolve' if thats what you'd call it (it was supposed to be a 2-week job). The guy showed up at our house only ONE time that we are aware of to check on the work HE was hired to oversee. Nothing was done to quality and we have decided to cut bait and just pay someone else to clean up his handy work. He'll spin you a sociable story and may even write a decent reply to this email but that's the most you'll see or get from him. I have pictures, videos and emails on record. We simply grew tired of constantly asking for things to be cleaned up and touched up so we could move on. I was patient and nice to this guy and simply wanted the work done completely, competently and timely and none of those things were accomplished. If you hire him, maybe he will call you a jerk too after you've paid him I take it as a compliment coming from Ben Hamrick. I never write reviews on things, this guy warranted one. read more

I needed my house painted, but I also needed repairs made, light fixtures and water faucets changed, and I needed the exterior of my house pressure washed. How excellent to be able to have one company that does it all? This is a great company to work with. I normally paint my own home, but we purchased a condo that had a two story great room so I decided to check out painters. Throughout the process I was impressed with Ben's professionalism. He gave great advice during the estimate which was the reason I choose to go with his company. The estimate was reasonable and we even asked him if he could try to reach the lights to change the light bulbs which they did for no extra charge. He gave suggestions on paint colors he thought might work well with our space and we went with one of them and it came out great. Since it was such a large area to cover the color really had to be just right. They were able to start the job in two days and finished the whole condo in three days. He was very accommodating, meeting up with us twice to exchange the fob to get into the secure bldg. He really went beyond my expectations and the condo looks great. I would definitely recommend him! read more
