Ordered the breakfast burrito despite not eating eggs since so many other ingredients are listed on the menu... boy was I wrong. The burritos are not made to order so you can't make any modifications do it, which I found very upsetting. It is wrapped in a soggy tortilla and despite choosing what meat option you would like, there is little to no actual meat in it. I struggled to find any potatoes in my burrito and was left eating a cheesy egg burrito, which would've been fine if that is what I had paid for. The salsa is also way too chunky for a burrito which made this difficult to eat in the car. We also ordered a muffin which was great but I would stay away from the breakfast burrito. read more

What a cozy spot. Everything is fresh here, and the staff is so welcoming. I feel like I'm at home (if my house was heavily stocked with bagels and donuts and coffee). I usually stop here before heading to the snow because it's the perfect turn off to pull over, stretch, grab some food, and top of my gas. If you're heading to Northstar, it's about 1 hour away (if the road conditions are clear). My favorite here is the nova lox on an everything bagel. It comes with smoked salmon, cream cheese, onion, tomato, and cucumber. Bonus: there's also a drive thru if you're in a rush and just need to pass by for a drink and a quick bite. read more

I love Buzz Thru Joes. I eat GF and DF and have weaseled my way around by getting the Asian Chicken Salad w/out noodles (delicious)! and The Bah Minh without bread. The owner is sweet and the service is always genuine. I think mom and pop restaurants are brave and wonderful and I wish there were more places like this in Colfax. read more

I was in line for 10 min and they girl saw me in line but decided to wait until it was my turn to tell me they were actually now closed. They served two cars ahead of me even came out to take orders but chose not to let us know at that time that they would not be serving us. Horrible service. There are many nights on the way to Tahoe when getting a cup of strong coffee is as important as having snow chains or knowing the backroads to skirt around a jammed up 80. Unfortunately, Buzz Thru Joe's isn't gonna help with that, since they close up at 4pm. What BTJ is gonna help for is your regular-hour desire for a great cup of coffee on the way to or from the Sierra. Their expresso is just about perfect, in my estimation. You pull up to a little window and order from from your car with the super-friendly staff. They have really good donuts, tasty croissants and rolls, and solid egg sandwiches. Their lunch sandwiches are not that great....at least the turkey sandwich I had wasn't. Lots of stars for the donuts and espresso and the overall vibe. Knock-down for early-close hours. I find it interesting when eateries don't care about the quality of their food. You're in the food business, do the best you can and use the best ingredients possible. We ordered 2 breakfast burritos and a turkey sandwich. They were almost inedible, mushy potatoes, cheap bread, bland veggies and tasted like they were frozen and then popped in the microwave. Save yourself the time and money don't eat here. Drive 15 minutes to Auburn and go to The Baker and Cake Maker or Pour Choice for real quality food and drinks. read more

Boba, coffee, espresso bar drink and food. It's all good! They have different flavored boba you can put in blended drinks or whatever, lots of variety! I like the blended toffee mocha...mmmmm their ham and cheese croissant is also super tasty...just the right amount of everything, hot but not too hot. Quick friendly service, affordable and it's just cute! A great spot for a little treat. It's one of my new favorite spots. Hidden gem in Colfax- the building's not the catchiest appearance on the outside but the locals know where to go. I've only ever had their (reasonably priced) bagels and smoothies but regularly crave them. Bagel choices are things like spinach Parmesan, jalapeño cheddar, etc; smoothie choices are piña colada, 3 berry, (strawberry banana?), etc with real whipped cream on top. Willing to customize (a friend of mine used to take her fav special protein powder there for them to put inside her breakfast smoothie every morning). *SOOOOO* yummy!! :) read more

I stop by here at least once a week. The ladies are super nice and coffee is great!! We ordered some burritos and a bagel once and the car smelled soo good. Gross, worst breakfast burrito i have ever eaten. Stopped here on my way to go skiing on a Saturday morning, went inside to order because the drive thru was too long. It looked like a great little place to eat, but damn was i wrong. I literally took 2 bites of my burrito and could not possibly take another, it tasted like poop. The contents of the burrito felt like mush and looked more or less the same, i am pretty sure they put eggs, potatoes and bacon and put it in a blender and poured it into a tortilla, wrapped it up, put it in the fridge and then heated it up in the microwave. Sure enough, we told the lady it was horrible as she said they make them the day before and they heat them up in the microwave. I would have been better off buying a frozen jimmy dean. I will never go back, i highly recommend skipping this place. Ohhh and the coffee sucked too. read more

The big dog Starbucks lurks less than 25 yards away, but their drive-through is always 5 to 6 cars deep.... That is why Buzz through Joe's is a pretty good option. You are in and out very quickly & the food menu is far more impressive than Starbucks. I have been here a handful of times and the Coffee is decent (it is no Pete's). Last time I splurged and got a small Mocha and I was then back on the freeway in about a minute.... This is a good spot for folks not patient enough to wait for the almighty master Starbucks line to die down. read more

Love this place. Nice little restaurant/cafe/drive through. It is primarily a drive through, but they do have seats inside. They have some of the best bagels I've ever had, and have some absolutely delicious drinks. They're a nice contrast to the Starbucks and McDonalds that surround it. My coworker and I ordered breakfast burritos. They were cold, we told them, the lady behind counter had attitude when my friend asked to switch burritos. She told him that next time she can't switch the burritos.... next time lol, never a next time. They put my partially chewed burrito back into the microwave and that's gross. We observed that they don't use proper sanitation techniques when they handle food. Then on top of that, the burritos didn't taste good, tortillas were soggy and sticky in the middle and the ends were hard. They were pre-made and in the fridge. Don't waste your time on this place, go to McDonald's or Starbucks. We spent about $17 on that. The caramel latte was ok. read more

I always ask to stop here rather than Starbucks when we pass thru on the freeway. Not anymore. Today, we were asked to take our Service Dog out. There is a sign in the door, "no dogs no exceptions." Trained service dogs, by law, are allowed wherever their handlers go. Our dog is a hearing dog, has gone through 18 month of training, and is extremely well behaved. You would not ask me to leave based on my hearing aids. My dog provides the same service. She lets me know when traffic is nearby and when people are talking to me. Check your California laws to be sure you are in compliance. Service dogs are allowed. read more

This place used to be awesome thick, rich, hot, black and strong coffee with freshly made pastries! Not anymore, stopped in couple weeks ago on way to hiking and what a disappointment, only gets two stars because the girl was nice. Went inside, it was kinda warm (saving AC money), when I asked the first girl what kind of coffee they had brewed, she was obviously confused. I clarified what type of coffee beans and the other girl came out from the back and said she thought it was French Roast regular and decaf. OK, ordered two of these and the weak brown stream that came out of the carafe as the pumped it was unimpressive in color and that it's pump type dispenser...what are we at the all night gas station? Pastry was all wrapped in clear cellophane and looked days old at best. We ate our sub sandwiches that we brought with and sipped the coffee, lackluster, weak and stale, been sitting in the carafe half the day from the taste, Starbucks would have been light years better and we don't care for it. I hadn't tried this place pre-lockdown but I'm trying to support local businesses while things are tough. The staff here is lovely and the food is pretty unremarkable but my biggest complaint is their 'cold brew' coffee. They either don't know that it's different from regular iced coffee or they're making it wrong. We're a family of strong coffee drinkers and no one could get it down. I worked here for about 4 years and have nothing but good things to say. I was hired in 2005, by original owners Patrice and Tracy. Both were wonderful, treated us (employees and customers) with respect, but it wasn't in their life plan to stay at Buzz Thru Joe's forever. Of course, a lot of original customers were upset when they sold the place and left, however the new owners have treated the place with respect, and have not changed a thing. I also worked for them last summer when I was home from school. They were still getting used to the place, however they kept all the original employees so there wasn't a hard transition, since most of us know how the place runs anyway. The racist comment left below is uncalled for. Of course, growing up in Colfax, I am aware that there are prejudice people there. But, the new owners have not changed a thing and have been as nice to the customers as Patrice and Tracy. I hope they continue to run Buzz Thru for many more years! BTW, the drinks are MUCH better than Starbucks (and I do go to Starbucks in San Francisco, but there isn't much otherwise, so I know how much their coffee sucks) and all the food is wonderful. The new owners even brought in some extra things like streusels and fruit salads. All very delicious, I recommend anyone driving up I-80 to stop here and get a yummy drink and something to eat! CREDIT cards are not accepted, but DEBIT IS! Cash and local checks are good too. (p.s. The new owners are from Cambodia) read more
