What a complete a total rip off. I expected to go to the State Fair spending an arm and leg playing games but $10 per game per person is asinine. I'm used to game operators calling and trying to get you over but One operator stepped in front of me and my family, stopping our movements and kept moving in front of us blocking us trying to get us to play his game. We were at the California State Fair and bought wristbands totaling 118. After our payment went through the machine did not print any wristbands for us and even after we talked to a worker they showed us that our payment did not register on the ipad they were using for payments so we went to buy the package again assuming a glitch had happened but the option we wanted was no longer showing up to purchase. We then went with another package since the workers told us that the previous one we were trying to buy likely sold out and the charge would not show up on the card since it did not go through on their side. We ended up buying the second wristband option totaling 88 dollars. However the next day our bank showed that both the 118 and 88 dollars had been charged forcing us to try and dispute. The rides were also not worth the 88 dollars we spent, lines were extremely long, poor management, and there were few rides to begin with. I bought 5 unlimited wristbands for my family plus added 38 tickets and the fast pass at the kiosk and it printed some of the unlimited bands but not all of them and no tickets instead it printed an identical wristband with all the tickets on it, I accidentally put it on my daughter that wanted to go on a lot of rides and after about 3 rides and one game she was told she was out of tickets. felt like this was a rip off had to go buy her another unlimited wrist band and then the lines were too long for rides so she did not get to use it at all. they also don't explain at all what adding the fast pass is for I did not realize until after paying extra for it that it only is a way to get into the ride in a faster lane. also I scanned one of the unlimited wristbands to see what was left on them the kiosk said it was all used up and had one fast pass left. in the end I paid almost 300.00 total for my family to have a good time and it was ruined because of the fact the machine does not print tickets it just gave us identical pink wristbands that we did not find out till later some of them were not unlimited when I thought that is what I paid for. So some of my family members left the fair really upset . Did not see a customer service desk until we were leaving but I was never given a receipt either so I was not sure how they would even be of help. Going to avoid in the future. read more

2 stars because the rides are fun but the majority of people that operate them don't know any English and it's very difficult to get answers to basic questions. We paid $70 for 2 wristbands and were shocked when we were told that they only take tickets for rides from 11pm to midnight. It's a dollar per ticket and each ride is between 3 and 7 tickets.... That's ridiculous! Going to the fair should be fun and not stressful. What a giant let down. read more

So after driving by this place a million times, and with no luck of ever finding info about these carnies on Yelp, I decided to take matters in my own hands and help out the community. Since it's just a random seasonal carnival, these guys can pop up and close down at any time. As of my writing 3/6/2010 they still existed. They will move down the Highway to Laney College in 2 days according to one of the workers. I brought my boo out here to check it out after she mentioned that she drove by it every single day on the way to work. Before we went here, we drove to Alameda and hit a ginormous pothole. My boo's poor Mini ended up having a huge bulge in the sidewall and it definitely cast a cloud over our evening. Since that means having to buy 4 brand new tires prematurely. Those dang runflat tires are not cheap! We drove to the carnival, and parked, and the parking attendants were pretty friendly, and made sure we got prime spots. We go buy tickets to go inside the carnival for $2 each. Rides cost $3-$5. But you can buy an all day wristband for $25. Games were $3-$10 also. The location for the carnival itself wasn't the best, the ground was wet from all of those days from rain, and there were some really muddy spots. I didn't see much innovation in the food stands. Where's the deep fried twinkies, or oreos? It was just basic carnival food, corn dogs, cheese fries, etc. My boo started cheering up after we walked by the various games and every single game master was challenging my manhood and telling me to "win something for the lady". They all really focused on her. They made matters even worse by allowing us, and especially her, to have a few free tries. They even told us the tricks of how to win, that it's SOOOO easy. So if the "little lady" can do it, then big badass stud me can do it, right? Heck no! They just make it look easy! Thank goodness my boo isn't the type to whine and beg or want stuffed animals. (I know Randy Pausch mentions in The Last Lecture that you should try to win at carnival games, and that it's a great metaphor in life). She was just happy that every single game master would give her a free try to play the games, like throwing a dart, or rolling a ball in the bucket. Who needs a stuffed animal to cuddle with when you have a cute boo? . In the end we only ride one ride, the Whiplash, which seemed pretty tame, but it was not! It just spun in circles, quickly accelerating and decelerating. I seriously felt sick after riding it, like I had some sort of brain damage, but it was cool since everytime it spun around my boo forced me to kiss her due to centripetal force! Now that's a fun physics lesson! read more

I like to live dangerously, so when I see a roadside carnival I like to stop, hop on that Ferris wheel and rock the shit out of it until they threaten to kick me out. Then I like to head over to the fairway and dodge the advances of toothless carnies who want to take me behind the generator and do bad things to me! I also like to see how much crappy food I can eat before I am doubled over with stomach cramps that could be grease induced or caused by the anti-hygienic conditions that you find at these street side shows. This carnival company disappointed. Most of the carnies had teeth and none attempted to take me to some secluded place. The food was limited to a mere 8 items, none of which were deep fried ....and no funnel cake!!! I can get that crappy ass pink popcorn brick, better used as a weapon than for consumption, at Stowe Lake. Show me some deep fried powdered sugared doughy love, you bastards! They did gain one extra star for providing yet another Ferris wheel from which I assume someone will clinging for dear life in the near future. As we were locked in and ready to take a spin I heard the carnie supervisor telling the ride operator "Watch that thing, it is slipping and that is VERY dangerous!". I took my 3 1/2 year old thrill seeker today (40 inches tall so their 36 inch height requirement wasn't an issue), and had a great time. We arrived at 12:30 p.m., got wristbands. There really wasn't any crowds or waits until 4:00. There were just enough rides for the over-36 in. crowd, and with the two "funhouse/obstacle-course" attractions that my daughter went in over and over, we had enough to rotate through. It wasn't the cheapest way to spend an afternoon, but it was a thrill that we didn't have to wait for county fair time to enjoy. One star off for the high price of the $25 wristband for being parking-lot amusement. read more

We did not have to wait in any lines but there was just enough people there for it not to be deserted. There are a lot of trained and sometimes aggressive hustlers at the win a big stuffed animal booths. Overall a decent place to go with a date or a group of friends or kids. Just make sure they are tall enough to get your moneys worth and bring a jacket as it gets COLD. read more

I've been going to carnivals with Butler since I was young generally had mixed experiences. Rides were always fun, but sometimes the customer service was lacking. I went to a small Butler carnival in San Jose this April and they were having technical issues with their ticketing system after I had purchased $80 worth of tickets. Versus just telling me to wait or come back later they gave me free tickets for me an my daughter while they addressed the issue. In the end they ended up refunding my money because it was taking so long to address the issue and gave me more free tickets. I asked if there was a way to buy them and they said no, but please have fun. A very nice experience!! read more

well that was pretty much a disaster. i knew we were gonna deal with the typical overpriced carney but this was beyond wrong. first a 10 year old with us sinks 2 of 3 bouncers in the bucket (without hitting the rim, i.e. legal) - carney wartface goes "ok, now that you've practiced go ahead and shoot" and of course the next 3 didn't go in. no amount of arguing would convince the maggot nest that he owed the kid a prize. then at the hoops, a 12 year old also with us, sinks a perfect ball into one of those much smaller than regulation rims that are so hard to hit. so hard in fact that the crowd around the area yells their congrats and applauds. but the scabey carney fat person says "i didn't see it go in" and refuses to acknowledge that a dozen folks just saw the damn shot go in. amazing. would it *really* hurt to give the damn kids a prize? they'd probably have played more games and lost way more money but at least wouldn't have left feeling totally ripped off. scumbags. scum...bags... the rides were ok, but of course overpriced and operated by your typical oozing bandage covered carney folk that you certainly don't want to touch or even stand downwind from. avoid avoid avoid. oh, they had an Oreint (sic) Express ride. haha. read more

uhm no never again. my first carnival experience was completely ruined. came here with my boyfriend, 2$ per person (adult prices) for entrance fee.. it was reasonable and rides requires additional tickets.. it was not too expensive, but there was barely any rides! how ridiculous.. in addition, all the booths with their stuffed animals that you have to play and win to get their stuffed animals, everyone that works in those booths hustles.. and the way they hustle was not cute.. one of the guy hella talked us into the dart game.. we wasted 30$ on a jumbo stuffed animal.. I left a message in regards to some height and weight requirements on a ride that my child was injured on. No one returned my call from Butler but instead...I was really thrown back after a 5 minute phone call with one of the rudest people I think ever. This guy Keith Hillegass-who they contract with for insurance and was soo disrespectful and rude it was unbelievable. During a very sad and unfortunate time when I am very stressed out, because my child was hurt pretty bad, he called me with a very rude and irritable tone. My son is missing out on completing his summer AAU tourneys that I have already paid for (non refundable), college recruit opportunities and once in a lifetime opportunities to open up at some Gospel shows praise dancing. Not to mention I cut hours at work to ensure he is not left alone, and racking up co pays and medical bills. But this guy has an attitude with me, because the company he represents failed to properly secure the merchandise and my child was injured. He was calling in regards to a claim regarding my child whom was injured and he is representing the company. He had no compassion or understanding whatsoever. He called me silly, yelled at me on several occasions telling me " I do not listen, or I sound very foolish". When I asked a question his only response was "you cannot expect me to have answers for you right now". He did not like me asking questions and wanting answers. I was supposed to take what he said as the final answer. I asked for a claim number and wasn't given that. I asked for specifics on the item that injured my son and he didn't have that. He obviously did not do his homework on the incident before calling me and was mad that he was not prepared. If you call someone and want information from them, I think you should be prepared to answer questions as well. I explained several times that I am just a confused and worried mother, who is a little frustrated about my child being injured and acting very abnormal at the moment due to his injury. I asked him does that make sense, or does he understand it...his response was "nope not at all". The company he is representing made tons of excuses of why his rudeness and disrespect could have happened. They also stated he is this way when dealing with them as well and that they were aware of how short and forceful he could be. But they are obviously ok with it, and he apparently has been getting away with it. Not the way I would like for my business to be represented for sure! read more

Hey, it's a carnival - why not? $25 all-you-can-ride wrist band, they open at 4pm on weekdays and noon on weekends, closing at 9-10pm or so depending on the crowds. Me and the little lady went on a Wednesday night and there were just enough people there to not be dead, but we didn't have to wait in a single line *ever*. Some of the rides are seriously disorientation inducing (like The Vortex or Nitro) but that's the point right? Took a while for the whoozy to wear off afterwards, but the smile outlasted it. I second the call for more imaginative food though - come on guys, buy one deep fryer and go to town already? I want to try deep fried twinkies... Not for small kids under 36 inches!!! I'm rating my experience and this carnival for small kids who do not meet the 36 inch height requirement. As a carnival, it was nice, had a good selection of rides(for taller riders) and an array of rides for kids 36" and up, food, a few games where kids win every time. We didn't have food, so I don't know how that was, but I could smell the nachos and they smelled good. So...I brought my small 3 year old and realized that she is only 34 1/2 inches. There is not one single ride for kids under 36". There were some rides where kids who are above 36" but below 42" could ride with an adult, but not a single ride my very disappointed kiddo could ride. She was just crying, "I wanna be bigger, mama." She's been on plenty of rides at Gilroy Gardens & Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk so she knows they are fun. I couldn't understand why this carnival company didn't offer a single ride for toddler sized kids! I'm giving one star for the games, which very much cater to kids. Kids win every time. Most games were $3 for one play(one dart, one hit with the malot, etc) or 2-3 for $5. Even the inflatable malot and baby tiger she won didn't make her feel better about not being able to go on a single ride. I saw reviews for this carnival when it was in Oakland and, in Oakland, there was a $2 charge for entry. At the October 2011 carnival in Southland Mall in Hayward(We went on 10/16/11 and it's still going), there was no charge for entry. The ride ticket prices were $1 per ticket and rides were 3-5 tickets. If you are taking a small kid that meets the height requirement to ride with an adult and the ride is 4 tickets, that's $8 per ride. Pretty pricey--especially for a "ride" like the Mardi Gras, which is a hall of glass, leading to a flight of stairs which takes you up to a "hall" of mirrors(which is really like 3-4 silly mirrors that kids totally miss and run right be to go down the slide). All told, you get through the Mardi Gras in under a minute and it's over. Bye-bye $8. I only know because we were able to get onto this one because my daughter ran by so fast that the guy didn't have time to check her height. I had to stop her on top to come back and look at us in the silly mirrors. So we did that one twice. Bye-bye $16! Thanks for the 2 minutes. The other rides looked like fun, but we couldn't get on them. They had an all day, one day unlimited ride pass for $25. This would be well worth it if you plan on going on 5 or more rides, which seems like a must for any kid. So why the other star, you might be asking...well, that was for customer service. I was so upset at the whole experience, I called the Southland Mall office to get the name of the carnival company and called them. The man I spoke with was very friendly and understanding and explained that the reason they don't have rides for kids under 36" is that the rules for stationary parks are different from traveling carnivals like theirs. He said the state simply doesn't allow it and that that they are working on trying to get something for smaller kids that the state will allow. He was very friendly and helpful and explained that the problem wasn't their lack of effort or consideration for tiny tots, but working within state regulations. That made me feel a bit better and his offer for some passes for next time made me feel a lot better, so that's where the second star comes from. Despite the high cost, I can't wait to take her again when she's bigger. read more

Ripoff alert! They sell you tickets which they say can be used for all the rides and games, but really they're only for the rides...which are a ridiculous number of tickets anyway. $5 to ride the carousel, but another $1 for an adult to go (they expect a 4yr old to ride a horse alone??). All the carnies look like methheads, and the guy selling tickets could not have been less helpful or friendly. Went to the state fair and rode the zombie horror house ride. It was $4 for each of us and it was the worst ride I have ever been on. There were 5 or so panels with a glow in the dark ghoul painted on them and three small zombie dolls behind glass. The dolls were seemingly supposed to move, which one did, but the other two were obviously broken. My 8 year old niece could make better paintings and scarier dolls. This was the biggest rip off I have ever experienced. We had no choice but to tell all those standing in line what to expect. read more

I took my daughter to the carnival in Foster city and had a great time. There was a ride operator on the kiddie ride The Dragon Wagon. At first glance, one would assume that this big, bald, biker looking gentleman would be the stereotypical carnie. This man was a very pleasant surprise. From the first time my daughter went on the ride at 2:00 until the 20th time she went on the same ride at 10:00 p.m. this man was happy, playful and gave these children positivity and joy. So I want to give a huge thank you to that amazing man. Butler Amusement's hit a home run when they hired this guy. I hope to see more of the other ride operators take lessons from him. We pay a lot of money to have a fun time with our family. It's nice to see the attitudes of the workers realizing that. Good job Butler, you hit the jackpot with this guy. read more

They will not even sell a bracelet tp children under 36 inches. So my daughter is 36 but after we got the bracelet half the ppl wouldn't let her ride the rides saying she wasn't tall enough even tho we measured at payment! All their measuring sticks at rides are 1 to 3 inches off. read more

Since I was 6 years old I have always loved carnivals. This one beats all the ones I have ever seen. I saw them at the State Fair and then at several other locations. Everywhere they appear they seem to be a fairy tale version of a carnival -- brightly lit, immaculately clean, colorful and nice music! The people running the attractions are clean and friendly and informative. It appears there are quite a few families running the food concessions, and I have noticed that the ride operators seem to be the same ones year after year, and mostly Latino. I figure when you have happy employees, you do a better job of serving the public. The prices seem to change depending on the location, but everywhere they have discounts available for writbands or groups of tickets. read more

Lame. My kid can't ride most of the rides. Height requirements are a joke. Who puts 42" with an adult and 42" without an adult requirement. I have never been to a carnival or fair where my 32" kid could only ride 3 rides regardless of being accompanied with an adult or not. And they give short rides to boot. This is by far the worst carnie outfit I have ever been to. If you have kids, don't waste your money or time. Go bowling or somethings else. read more

i spent seven hours at this place (laney college location) with kids ages 5, 6, 8 and 9. they LOVED it --no lines and plenty of thrills for both big and little kids. it's small enough that i let the big kids stick together and go on rides without me. it was clean, and the staff was helpful/friendly and didn't make me feel guilty for not spending ANY cash once we got the wristbands. read more
