*Redemption Update* (Oct 4, 2026) After 8 days I finally received a response from Butcher Box's customer support team. In light of what's transpired, I think it's only fair to share. What normally is resolved in a simple phone call, chat or email exchange, this took 8 days...and over 3 hours of my time wasted. But since Butcher Box did respond with an apology and explanation, I will see what happens going forward...and for now upping my review to 4 stars. Here's their email response: Hello Scott, I hope this email finds you well. This is Ray, and I am a supervisor here with ButcherBox. Thank you for following up and for sharing your feedback. I completely understand your concern and frustration, especially after waiting so long for a response. We've been handling a large volume of tickets lately, which has affected our usual response times. We're working to clear the current backlog and get back to our normal response times as soon as possible I'm sorry to hear that there was an issue with removing one of the Ground Sirloin deals from your next order, and I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Since the discounted Ground Sirloin at $10.80 is no longer available to be added to your next order, I've added an $8 credit toward your upcoming order on October 2. You should see the credit reflected in the price breakdown of the order. Should you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach back out. Thank you for being a valued ButcherBox member for so many years. Kind regards, Ray Member Experience Supervisor read more

I am requesting this to be escalated to the a United States Based customer service manager. I have a serious concern and I'm tried of dealing with a foreign country who 1) is terrible at their job and 2) and only reads from a script. 1). End of May I cancelled my subscription via an extensive phone conversation, again with a foreign customer service agent, in an another country other than the United States. I canceled it primarily because I have an ongoing complaint regarding a Groupon a purchased on Groupon.com (http://groupon.com/) Groupon number: 1000-1497599999 for $175.00 I called Groupon they told me the Groupon code is active and to contact burcherbox customer service to resolve, this as been an ongoing complaint for 8 months, which is why I cancelled my auto subscription until this was resolved, 2) you didn't cancel my subscription, and continued to bill me $319.00 for a box, I didn't subscibe to, to an old address I no longer live at, I'm furious and disappointed that my phone call today to butcher box was another foreign person who doesn't understand the situation. You own me $175 is Groupon credit for this Groupon code: 1000-149759...... you owe me $319.00 in a refund for a box that was delivered that I already cancelled my subscript to. And you need to send me a private message to resolve. I'm tired of this. read more

I've been using ButcherBox for the better part of the last year. Meat quality is decent, but I canceled my subscription because decent meat is not enough to offset all the negatives. First, the small annoyances. The plastic little packets could use a notch on the edge so one does not have to reach for scissors every single time. Additionally, the plastic packaging almost always had tears in it so that when defrosting it would leak liquid everywhere. Also the packaging for the shrimp is idiotic. Why put the zipper in the middle of the bag and not the top? What's wrong with just keeping it on the top? Really irritating when I've opened a new bag and only need a small amount of shrimp and struggle to close the zipper because I can't get a good handle on it. Not all changes are innovative. Now on to why I ended up canceling. Sometimes the box has shown up with the dry ice completely evaporated and needing to be put in the freezer immediately. That said, the last time I was supposed to receive my delivery, I was home all day. No one rang me on the intercom, no one tried to reach me. Next thing I know, the delivery update says the driver couldn't access my building. Well, given what I knew about the dry ice situation, the box spending another night sitting in a warehouse was too big of a risk to take. In an age of increasing food safety issues, this was not a risk I was going to take. They tried to deliver again the next day, but I refused delivery. The delivery driver made some excuse about the intercom not working and in the next breath asked about the building code. If the intercom was really broken, then how would the building code work? The company has refused to do anything about this, as apparently I should have accepted the package (which was in all likelihood spoiled) and then reached out to customer service. What? Are you stupid? Why would I accept a package just to have to throw it away? So they ate my money ($162) and I got nothing for it. Never again. I'll take my money elsewhere. So sick of these scamming companies. read more

I thought I had found the perfect grass fed meat subscription service. But, it was short lasting. We signed up in late November and got our first box in January. One of the packages had torn exposing the meat inside. Disappointing but figured it was a one off. Second package arrived in February. Again ripped packaging. This time it was two packages of meat that had to be thrown out. This time I reached out and they offered a small credit or a replacement of the meat. I took the replacement. Third package arrived in March. AGAIN torn packaging. This time it was sliced open. Obviously they have a distribution problem. It seems like this is a common issue. At this point I don't trust the meat. It's a health hazard and I'm done. Canceling my subscription. I definitely would not recommend them. read more

My family never liked a lot of the cuts of meat. They were tough. Also the service doesn't notify you within a reasonable time frame that you have a delivery. My box sat out all day and night because they notified me the day after it came. The seafood had all gone soft and I explained the situation but they didn't compensate me for the box so I canceled my subscription. You should be notified right away that the box has been delivered so you can put the food in the freezer. Very bad customer service. read more

i tried to cancel my account for months. I called and Emails over a dozen times. for for months after I was changed and shipped something I didn't want and told you I didn't want 3 boxes total 537. I was told because I couldn't provide a email to the account I couldn't cancel it. I offered my address, card number, photo ID and you said there was only 1 way to look up an account. But 1 of the times I was told I can have my account paused for a few months. weird how you can pause an account that you cant look up. So to stop the charges I had to report my card stolen with my bank to get a new one. I was going to be a returning customer Just needed a break because my freezer was getting full. I will never give you another chance. read more

The food is good, better than a grocery store's, but it comes at a price beyond what the cost of their meats are. First, one must subscribe to a box of limited, general (e.g., beef, chicken) choices, and you don't get any choice of the cuts of meat that are within those categories. They regularly offer sales that you can add to what your base box, some good, some overpriced. Frequently, the prices for the sales undercut a previous sales price, i.e., the item could be $23 on one sale and $14 on the next. To get the best deals, one has to sift through your list of what you've added to your box, and what's in your cart can't be sorted to make this easier. I've asked for this feature, but BB doesn't incorporate suggestions. A major issue is the cutoff date. BB is on Eastern Time, thus their cutoff time is at midnight that time. Once that happens, they bill you and essentially dump the cuts in a box, seal it, and drop it on the conveyer to send it to be shipped to the last address on file. You can't make any changes of any type. Therefore, if you forgot to sift through your choices, it's too late. You'll get everything that was in your cart as of midnight Eastern time. If you've changed your address or won't be at your address, it's too late. You're screwed, a box of spoiled meats will be waiting for you. The delivery window is several days, and one can't ask for a specific date, adding notes for delivery is useless. The box(es) will be dumped on your doorstep, no knocking or bell, the delivery service rushes off as fast as possible. Customer service is virtually non-existent. Chat is unavailable most of the time, phone waits are excessive (hint: put your phone on speaker, and you may wait so long that you forgot who you called, or you may give up), email response horrible and in order received, and solutions their CSRs can offer are non-existent. This service is best for those who are always at home and only want what's in your box already. If you add items to your box, you're playing with fire. It behooves you to edit your box frequently before the imaginary ax falls on charging you, dumping the meats in a box, sealing it, and passing it to the shipper to be sent. You're largely on your own. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!! They will steal from you! I had a gift card for $200.00, if you do not spend all of it on one purchase they will keep the rest. Nowhere was that written on my gift card or in the gift card email. This was their response: I also want to apologize for the confusion in my earlier message. After reviewing your order, I want to clarify that ButcherBox gift cards do need to be used in a single transaction. This means that once your $200 gift card was applied toward your purchase, the remaining balance of $56 isn't able to be used on a future order. I realize this isn't the answer you were hoping for, and I'm truly sorry for not explaining this more clearly upfront. We deeply appreciate your loyalty as a member and your excitement for our boxes, it means the world to us. While the remaining balance can't be carried over, please know that your feedback is incredibly valuable, and I'll be sure to share your experience with our team as we continue to improve clarity around gift card use. read more

This company has earned its reputation, ... I heard about this company first from a YouTube contest creator, on his channel, Universal Mastery, (sorry, Jeremiah, I forgot to use your link so you'd get credit) I checked out their website first, and saw that they specialized in pasture raised animals and the use of Non GMO feed was a feature I most loved. They had a nice variety of meats, lots of specials and member deals..etc. so, I contacted them on around, Feb 3rd, where I communicated with Hailey ,customer sales team. She was very helpful with any concerns I had and was hesitant about. She stayed involved with me until I finally was successful in placing my order. First couple of times failed due to some unexpected technical issues. So, once placing my subscription for the custom box, where you pick all your own favorite items, which you can change up whenever you want. Got my confirmation email shortly after. It gives you a window of your estimated arrival. Mine was ordered on the 3rd of February..the estimated delivery date was between the 5th and 8th same month. So happily I waited only to not get any further training or update. So I emailed Hailey again, she apologized, but said that the order hadn't been delivered yet but was packed. I also received an email showing the tracking status where the order was still in the "boxing" status on the 6th. Here's where things soured a bit for me. On the 8th, I reached out again, because according to them, I was estimated to be receiving my box no later than the 8th. Hailey email me back with a order run down and normal schedule time. I replied politely, thanks for the update, and was glad this isn't your typical way of doing things. On the 10th, Hailey emailed me back with this... "I'm so sorry for the inconvenience caused. I've confirmed with our fulfillment center that your order has been processed for shipping and you should receive your tracking shortly. When your box ships, you'll receive an email notification from support, with tracking information, letting you know your order is on the way." So by now, I was beginning to think about this, I already had to make do, by substituting store bought meat, while the wait for my delivery, and it looked like Hailey didn't really have a answer. I thought that I'd better cancel this and get my money back..but when I went to the website..couldn't find anywhere where this action is done. So, I called the support number, which, BTW, is always a good sign that a company offers live agents to help you..I reached agent named James, ultra professional and very knowledgeable...kind too. He heard the whole spiel on what happened. I actually was calling to find out how to cancel! He said that once your order was already packed or "boxed"..you could cancel the future order, but for this one, you can not get a refund. I certainly didn't like that, because my order was in the packed status ..too long. James looked up my order, and told me that my order had indeed been ready for pickup, but for some reason their shipping courier was having a problem, hence the unordinary delay. Hailey should have relayed this to me. But he said after a short hold, I'm being shipped promptly out that evening He also compensated me for the problems. I accepted humbly, due to his diligence and genuine concern for my "new customer experience". He explained that they can deliver once shipped in 3 days, because they have several local warehouses throughout the cities, which is also great to know. So, I received my package the next day..and everything was perfectly packed, frozen. Lots of meat, quality meat for the price I had my first ribeye,..... tender, juicy and, although I've been a devoted vegetarian since 2018 I instantly returned back, to the last time I had a real prime steak. The flavor is unmistakable. Meat lovers know what I'm talking about. So, due to being anemic, doctors recommend that I get some meat in me..I don't believe that if I had to rely upon store bought meat, I could do it. Butcher Box is to me, earning its reputation. For me, the ground sirloin, chicken breast, and bacon, are my favorite. So, this company has my business! Friendly, knowledgeable staff, excellent tasting fresh meat, ease in ordering, pause your order and restart control. Member deals, such as ..every month with your order, you get something free, like the promo I had was, 2 ribeye steaks free. For my next box, I added more ground beef, and I 'll probably add bacon too. For the convenience, along with all the other perks, you have nothing to lose. All that GMO medicated meat at the grocery store is killing you, and the long term effects and cost are sky high. Thanks to all the awesome reps that answered the phone, and assist in everyway, with a smile. Keep doing what you read more
