Cheap service if moving cross country and you don't mind running the risk of them & greyhound (the service they use) losing your packages. Moved cross country and shipped 8 boxes. 4 made it within a week and the other 4 are lost. Pretty sure someone stole it as they were all labeled clearly and uniformly. Never again!!!!!! read more

Overall I am happy with this service. I just moved from Minneapolis, MN to San Jose, CA. Moving across the country is incredibly expensive, and I knew the best way to do this was to sell as much furniture and other items as possible, and only move what I really needed to keep. I managed to reduce my two bedroom place down to just 14 large boxes. Using a pod or a "you pack, we move" type service was well over $1,000, as was renting a moving truck. Busfrieghter came in much cheaper. If you use them, know what you're doing though. This is NOT a professional moving service, it's a bus. It's Greyhound, and whatever you are shipping or moving goes in with luggage. It gets moved around a lot, stacked a lot and it switches buses often depending on how far your things have to go. In my case, it was quite a long distance, so my items were shuffled from bus to bus several times. So again, if you're going to use this service, use your brain. Know what you're signing up for. Use brand new, very sturdy boxes. Use LOTS of tape. Wrap fragile things in clothing, blankets, towels, etc and use LOTS of bubble wrap. When your boxes arrive, they will be beat up badly. Most of mine were split open. But, I packed VERY well and NOTHING was broken, and I had a LOT of fragile stuff packed. If you're moving and need to move stuff on a budget, I highly recommend this, but again, be smart about it. Know that your boxes will get beat up so prepare for that. I know I'll use this service again in the future and I'll definitely recommend it to people. read more

I've shipped my belongings (approx 12 boxes) three times over the last few years between California to the East Coast. Each time the price was reasonable, speed was impressive, and the customer service strong. I've had some broken items (mostly a few glasses and platters), but nothing beyond what would be expected. I have shipped many plates, glasses, etc. that survived, despite showing up in beaten up boxes. Most recently, Kevin at Busfreighter was particularly responsive and helpful when I had an issue tracking down my final box. I recommend the door-to-door option as dealing with the chaos of the Greyhound station is less than ideal. You can't beat the price, so as long as you are wiling to take a bit of a risk with the handling of your boxes (and maybe go down to the Greyhound station to hunt down a missing box...!) these are the guys to go with. read more

Worst experience moving ever. I thought I'd save a few bucks by using this service. I was willing to wait 2 weeks for my things to ship across the US. Well, my boxes all went to the wrong address, even though the labels clearly had my address down correctly. I only knew about the boxes b/c the person who received them found my phone number on the boxes. I had to Uber across town and get the boxes myself. Busfreighter gave me the run-around and said I needed to email them first, but it was a time-sensitive thing since the other person was not willing to hold onto a stranger's boxes for long. When I saw my boxes, they were ripped from seam to seam. I called and was directed to call another number, and then told to email. The email reply I got was formulaic and asked me to file a claim, redirecting me to a very long claims form. I'm disgusted by these people and the business they run. I hope they run into the ground. Oh, and some plastic ware I had in my boxes were cracked due to rough handling. read more

Worst company ever. Advertise one thing and charge your card another. Spoke to four different employees Kevin, Tracy, Beth and some other lady too unimportant to remember her name. They all have their own policies they choose to follow. This company is as trash as the employees attitude. Do not use these services. read more

Terrible experience! My receipt for my shipment showed a charge of $54.36, but when I received my credit card statement they charged $102.19. Called them and got a foul mouthed girl that refused to look into the problem, just said the bill was correct. Don't deal with this crooked company!!!! read more

Like others, I was hesitant because of bad experiences I'd read. But because I didn't have anything valuable enough to warrant $1000+ in shipping fees (which is what other shipping methods would have cost), I decided to take a risk and it was worth it. I shipped three boxes. Everything arrived from Michigan to California in less than a week (so faster than the promised 10 days) and in good condition. Things to note: 1) I made sure not to include anything really valuable in terms of money or sentiment. This is just because along the way, I would guess many people handle and have access to the boxes, and I didn't want to take the risk. 2) I used plastic moving boxes and packed them tightly. I figured this was better for ensuring nothing broke. 3) Following other people's advice, I added bright labels onto my boxes with my last name and "Box 1 of 3," etc. Apparently this makes it easier to ensure all the boxes arrive together. I also taped the boxes shut to ensure they didn't open accidentally. 4) Be aware that if the boxes arrive sooner than expected and you can't pick them up, there's a storage fee of $5/day after the first 72 hours. (This is very reasonable to me - just wanted to point it out.) 5) The Greyhound agents I dealt with were very friendly, informative, etc. I didn't have interactions with Busfreighter customer service, so I cannot comment on that side of things. read more

I shipped 4 boxes and 2 suitcases from Des Moines to the Bay Area. It arrived on time and in perfect condition. There was an error when the Des Moines attendant only scanned one package instead of the 6 she was supposed to but the manager was able to rectify that the next day. For the price and the convenience of paying for it online, I thought this service was a great way to ship packages anywhere in the US. The tracking numbers also provided a good idea of what was happening with the package. I was skeptical when I read the Yelp reviews but tried it anyways; happy that I did it anyways. read more

Shipping times not realistic. Called for quote, was told 7-14 days (website says business days but CS agent said calendar days), but after shipping, 2 weeks later package remains in first stop of 5, and CS agents tell me that it is unlikely to leave that stop for another week, and will likely take another week to leave the next stop after that. I understand it is budget, but providing time estimates that are even remotely close to the actual required time is a part of running a reasonable business. read more

I found out about Bus-freighter from one of the articles published on the website. It was the cheapest .I was moved from Phoenix to Cleveland .I have used semi door service .My experience was very nice .My 8 boxes are delivered in 10 days . I have experienced that if the boxes which we r sending through it is nicely packed and taped properly then it the best and cheapest way to move things from long distance. Thanks bus freighter to making things easier . read more

This is probably one of the worst companies I've ever worked with. I've had so many problems receiving my shipment, it's ridiculous. Do yourself a favor and never do business with them. Save yourself the stress. I moved across the country so I naturally looked for cheap options to have my things moved. HUGE MISTAKE! I put an order in for 12 large boxes to be picked up from my home and Busfreighter decided to send a two-door hatchback. The driver was a frail old man who couldn't even lift my boxes. So, as I picked up one box in an attempt to carry it out to his vehicle, I noticed that there was no way my boxes would fit in his tiny car. I should've taken that as my warning to just ask for my refund but I spoke with a woman (Kelly, I believe her name was) and she said it was Greyhound's fault and that she would get it resolved immediately. She then went on to say how terrible Greyhound was and I questioned my decision to ship with them. She stated that she would take care of everything. This was on a Friday. Monday morning, I left to board my flight across the country and my Dad was so kind as to be home so my boxes could be picked up. My boxes were not shipped until that Wednesday, April 12th. It is now April 20th, the 8th day in transit and only TWO of my TWELVE packages are up at the greyhound station just sitting there. The 5-7 day transit is a LIE. They lure you in with cheap prices and semi-quick delivery dates. I called both busfreighter and greyhound and NEITHER of them could tell me where my boxes were nor could they tell me when they would arrive. I know how stressful it can be moving and trust me when I say the added stress is not worth it. Take your business somewhere with better customer service and guaranteed delivery. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. read more

Your putting yourself in a very big risk if you use this in moving your stuff from state to state. I recently used Busfreighter and they use greyhound package express, paid station to door for 10 days delivery, sent 2 shipments on sept25 from Aiken Sc to Redlands Ca (two 22inch boxes and three 22inch boxes, greyhound labelled and wrapped properly). I was told that greyhound tracking numbers will be provided as soon as they get to the first greyhound station. No greyhound tracking in a few days and Busfreighter told me to call Greyhound. Been calling Greyhound ever since and they can't provide me tracking but they know that packages will land at San Bernardino Ca then someone will call me to setup home delivery. Oct16 has passed and i still don't have tracking or my boxes. Today i have been told by Greyhound that it may just be a delay and if i don't get a call or my boxes this weekend then i call first thing on monday to place a trace (they will email all stations to check if my name is there). For whatever timeframe stations have to respond to that email, i don't know, next in line i think is to file a claim. This is ridiculous, considering that at any station, they haven't scanned any of my barcoded boxes to generate tracking. I already knew that there is risk so I made 2 shipments to make insurance to $2k but I can't believe that they may lose my 2 shipments and lose all my 5 boxes. I may edit this review as soon as i'm done with this dilemma but busfreighter nor greyhound will never get a 4 or 5 rating from me.. read more

I was terrified to use this service after reading some of the reviews- but I was very surprised (and relieved) that everything went pretty smoothly! I shipped 9 boxes from Seattle to Nashville. They were taped up to the extreme, had 2 copies of the GPX label as well as 3 other handmade labels on each box designated which box it was (box 1 of 9, for example). Overall, the boxes had minimal external damage- on had started to split on the side and some were kind of dirty, but otherwise to be expected with a cross-country ship. The contents were also relatively undamaged, the most significant being to a printer that had a few more cracks (but still functions), and a cooking pan that has a dent on one side now. We drove for five days from Seattle, and within hours of arriving in Nashville, someone from the Grayhound station called to say that our boxes had also arrived, and provided the hours that we could pick them up. I was surprised how soon they got there- I hadn't even gotten things together enough to track the packages. I think with the right preparations and the right expectations this service works pretty well- I was apprehensive that some packages wouldn't arrive, but at least this time it all went well. read more

Awful service, they lost my box. I've been waiting for it for about 3 months and now they won't fulfill my claim. It's an endless back and forth with this people and nothing gets resolved. Avoid this service at all costs. read more

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. There should be a zero star rating. Even if you're on a budget, or cheap or have no real need for your goods, DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. I shipped 20 boxes from Los Angeles to Chicago. I happy to say that I have received 19 of those boxes but with great damage. With one box outstanding, I requested the delivery of the 19 to happen, after my boxes had been sitting at the Chicago station for nearly 2 weeks, supposedly waiting for the outstanding box. Because I didn't need them immediately, I waited. After realizing that the outstanding box, or the efforts for locating the box were few, I asked to have the 19 boxes delivered and I would come and pick up the last box when it arrived. Needless to say, it's been 2 weeks later and no outstanding box. When the 19 arrived, half of the boxes had been opened and this is being double taped (shipping and duct tape). When they called to confirm the delivery, that stated that some of the 19 opened and damaged and one is outstanding. The first couple of weeks I called each day to only be told the same thing that seems to come from a script that everyone uses " we will call the various transfer locations...no response from those locations...we will give you a call back...". I was also not given a call back after being told I would everytime I called. I was hopeful at first but I am not anymore. I would highly urge you NOT to use this service as they take no accountability for the destruction and dislocation of boxes- they seem to simply not care. The liability process is laden with paperwork and legalities that forces you to rethink is it worth it. The reality is, with a company of this size, there should be greater accountability and responsibility to its customer. Find another means of shipping your goods. I am highly disappointed. read more

It is so sad to call customer service and talk to a representative (Kelly) who is so unprofessional. She hangs up on you and when you ask who is her supervisor she says "it is me". When you say who is your boss she says "no one" and when you ask who is the CEO of the company she says "Kevin Pierce". She can not give his number because it is a personal number. Lady, I don't want his personal number, I want to talk to someone who can knock some sense into you that your ugly behavior and your ugly attitude needs to be changes. So sad and disappointing. I am appalled and disgusted. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!! Poor customer service, website leaves out details that you don't find out until you've processed payment, they keep your money even when you've overestimated, they make a ridiculous profit. Read below for details. I don't leave reviews very often. 1. Website is not the clearest, so I called to request more information. Spoke with Kathy who was incredibly rude and kept saying, "Well, as our website says..." and "If you go to our website...". I asked to speak with someone who wasn't so rude, but had to remain on the call with her. She did NOT give me the information I needed. The worst thing she told me was that they recommend shipments arrive between 7am and 6pm, BUT my Package Express Location closed at 5:30p! So I missed it. Why didn't she just tell me I needed to contact the Greyhound terminal for their hours??? I had no idea this company was so shady and that they were not at a kiosk/location inside Greyhound. You basically deal with Greyhound after giving Busfreighter.com your money. When I called to change everything, they didn't even have corrected information regarding the hours of the other locations near me. You do all of the work. Changing locations or dates means you have to have them make new labels ALL OVER AGAIN. Incredibly frustrating if you are trying to move. 2. I made an error when dropping off my boxes the day after I actually needed to. So I called to inform them that I'd made an error and find out how to fix the problem. And I got Kathy...Her response to my explanation that I messed up and the labels are for a different location was "And?" What kind of service is that?! The company requires updated labels and she says "And?" I asked to speak with someone else; there was no one else available, so I had to continue dealing with her. Once again she was not being helpful AT ALL. Getting information from her is like pulling teeth. But eventually she did help me and did something extra to help me out even more. This gesture was much appreciated and made me forget about her terrible service up to that point. I really only wanted my my items shipped; not to spend time on other things. BUT... 2. It has been over 1 week and I have only received 1/10th of my boxes. 3. Greyhound told me the cost of the shipment and for one of the shipments the difference was about $300. So this scam company made a $300 profit and couldn't even provide good service. Ridiculous. They didn't even attempt to reimburse me for the difference between the amount I estimated and the actual weight of the shipment. What kind of company does that?! In addition, Greyhound told me I would be reimbursed for the difference between their cost to ship and what I prepaid. Greyhound gives you a printed receipt with the cost of the shipment right there. Busfreighter.com says no. They keep the difference. (Payment for providing such great service??). **You do all of the work.** I found out the hours of the Greyhound terminal. I called to find out where to go at the terminal. I printed all of the labels and taped them to my boxes. I took my boxes to Greyhound. I stood in line at Greyhound waiting for everything to be processed. I had to call Greyhound to follow-up regarding my shipment. Yet, Busfreighter.com charges 70cents/lb for the consumer when they are only charged 40 cents/lb by Greyhound (that is what Kenneth stated). In addition, Greyhound then does the rest of the work: receiving your shipment, processing your shipment, shipping your items, sending you updates regarding your shipment, calling to let you know your shipment has arrived. So, I asked for the name of the owner; I was told "the owner of the website is Kevin Pierce". I asked if he's the owner of the company. Again Kenneth (the other rep) repeated that Kevin owns the website "busfreighter.com". I said isn't that a company. No clear answer. Shady. And he would not give me Kevin's contact information. I am just floored at how this "business" operates. I warned Kenneth that I was going to do a yelp review of my experience. I truly hope that you ignore the cheaper rates and go with a more reputable company. This has not been a great experience. I regret my decision completely. I hope no one has to go through the same thing. read more

If shipping Greyhound , do not trust this company !!! HORRIBLE !!! Either use the Greyhound site directly or pay at the counter when you drop your packages off. Bus freighter is the worst shipping company I have ever dealt with in all my days. My experience is as horrible as it can get. And this Kenny guy is a real piece of work, this guy is a liar and a scam artist in my opinion. First he said, he didn't know if my packages would be picked up today at about 8am when I received my shipping labels then I got a call from him at 9:45am saying they will pickup today! Kenny knew I was not at home and still needed to print shipping labels but he made sure the driver was at my house before I could get there at 10:30am not even a hour! Because if your not there Busfreighter make sure you will be charged again to send another car, what a Kenny was not expecting is I would pull up before he can have the driver ordered to pull off! I talked to the driver and told him I would bring boxes to the door. He said great. I went into the house my aunt was still outside talking to the driver when he got the order to pull off. She was like why you leaving and he said, he was sorry but they dispatch him to leave. Right in-front of our faces BF was beating us out of more$. This was so dirty, unprofessional, and unexceptionable. The driver said he was sorry but he had to do what they said. I didn't like how rude he was, he had told me I would be charge an extra $65 if the driver was gone when I pulled up. I assured him I was 1 min. away I guess he didn't believe me. We caught the driver before he could pull off but Kenny wasn't having not being able to charge twice so they had the driver to pull off in our faces. Dam what a horrible service and what horrible little man. My aunt called trying to reason with Kenny, told him how the driver was dispatched to pull off right in our faces, he suggested she was lying and that the wouldn't do that so she described the driver and the vehicle then asked can he not charge me the 2nd charge! Kenny told her absolutely not because I he called. You see BusFreight purposely get the Quick Silver van to your house before you can get there. It's a scam in my opinion and they are making Greyhound look BAD!!! Greyhound is brand that's well know for quality service and is now affiliated with a loser brand smh; this do not look good! I will never use BusFreighter again and I'm now skeptical of Greyhound! The absolutely worst logistic services known to man! There is a reason why they are cheaper, it's because they suck big time! Try them at your own risk! I should have used FedX, I should of read reviews but Greyhound send you from their website to your doom! I wish I could give Busfreighter a big fat zero! read more

VERY SLOW SERVICE!!! Do not believe what their website states for delivery. Our shipment was going across the country (Pittsburgh, PA to San Francisco, CA) and we scheduled the shipment to arrive when we were arriving there. Their website stated 7-10 days to arrive for cross country shipments, but there are no guarantees for timing. IT TOOK OVER A MONTH TO ARRIVE; 35 DAYS TO BE EXACT!!! Also, when you call Customer Service they are very nice, but can't help you. I called 5 times; always a very nice representative promised to find out where the shipments were and when they would arrive, but NEVER got a call back from anyone. Sent several emails and never got a reply. Also, the tracking system is confusing and several of the boxes showed they were still at the originating city until they finally arrived to the final destination. Many of the boxes shipped (7 total) were extremely smashed, but thankfully only 1 item got broken. Thankfully we packed things very well. Also, if you do decide to use them use lots of packing tape on the outside of the boxes or they will fall apart from all of the handling. Two positive things I have to say is that all the boxes arrived; very late, but they arrived and I did save money for shipping with them. However, due to the late delivery I actually lost money because I had to purchase many items that I needed and expected to be delivered within 7-10. If you do not need something in a certain time frame and don't mind your shipments getting smashed and moved around from bus to bus then save some money and use them. UPS and FedEx they are not. I will never use their shipping service again. read more

Moved from New York to California and considered many different shipping options. This was the cheapest and seemed straight forward given the tracking number. I knew it would take longer than advertised (2 weeks) but never imagined this nightmare...I only had 7 large boxes, packaged very well, it took a month of me tracking online, hours of being on call to customer service, being told repeatedly that they had no new information than what was online. Finally got word after a month that 6 of my boxes were waiting for me at the destination. Why they told me they had no new information every time I called for a month - I have no idea! Theh couldn't even tell me when the boxes arrived there! So I pick up the majority of my shipment and keep waiting. Another month of calling and calling and calling goes by. They put a "tracer" on my box which shows its in Texas but then again - no new information. So I start a claim and a refund and its been a week with no news. You absolutely have to know that if you go with this company you have a big chance of never seeing your shipment again and an even bigger chance of getting NO RESPONSE. It would be cheaper and more cost effective at this point to drive across the country myself or rent a u-haul. I am still waiting to hear back about the claim and refund that i asked for and might have to take them to small claims court! read more

I recently moved across country and decided that I'd try busfreighter since I'm on a budget. I followed the instructions of previous yelpers who seemed to have luck with the service and for the most part, everything worked out well. I packed boxes with lots of tape, used fluorescent paper on each of the sides with my name and the number of the box, and used stretch wrap to go around each one (I would check other yelpers reviews for more detailed information). I ordered the semi-full service and the next day, a man came to picked up my boxes. The only complaint I really have is that instructions might have been more clear about this. I didn't really know what would happen after he came to pick up my boxes or how I could track the packages, since the waybill on the labels I was given doesn't track the package. I decided after I got to my destination I'd call Greyhound and see if they could locate my package with the order number, which they were able to do. The last part of the process is where I have my real complaints, but I don't blame busfreighter for this at all. When I went to pick up my packages, the man at the ticket counter was super rude. He said my boxes had been sitting there for a month (although I hadn't even sent my boxes until 3 weeks ago), and he was complaining that I used Busfreighter because they didn't give him a number to call, even though Busfreighter puts your name and number on your labels, and I put labels on every single side of every single box. After a few minutes of him hassling me, I finally got my boxes, and I noticed one of them had been water damaged. When I got home, I saw that the bottom half was completely soggy and when I opened it up, I found that half of my things got wet. Luckily it wasn't anything too important, mostly just books and a few odds and ends, but I did have to throw them out because they smelled like mildew. However, I don't blame Busfreighter for this, I blame Greyhound and partly myself. I believe it got wet because I didn't pack my box to full capacity/put too many squishy things in it, so it got squished and it looked like some of the seams started to crack. Also, I think I should've put more stretch wrap around it. I only went around the boxes two or three times, so my recommendation would be to do at least 5 or 6 rounds of it. That being said, it seemed like my box was left out in the rain or someone put it in standing water because the bottom of it was soaking wet. Other than that, everything else came in fine, so there's that. A previous yelper suggested using big tupperware bins for packing so nothing gets wet, and I think that would've been the way to go. Despite my complaints with Greyhound, I'd use this service again because you can't beat the price, and I really had no problems with the Busfreighter portion of the service. Just follow the advice of previous yelpers who had success and learn from my mistake of not packing the box well enough or covering it well enough with stretch wrap. read more

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced. My belongings are just missing and neither busfreighter nor Greyhound will provide any information. I paid busfreighter to ship 3 boxes from Baltimore to Portland. There has been no status updates for nearly a month. I have called and sent emails only to be put on hold for hours and not have any response. "We don't have any way to know where it is." Seriously??? How about the tracking number??? After 5 unsuccessful inquiries I asked a bus freighter agent, Kenny, to send me information on how to file an insurance claim. I can only assume they have lost my shipment. I was told "This conversation is over." I have yet to receive any updates, claims information or the transcript of the chat with Kenny. I am so disappointed my belongs are just gone. And, I'm not confident that I will even get the insurance out of this company without hiring a lawyer. read more
