Backcountry uses DoorDash for "last-mile" delivery in the city, but their security standards are nonexistent. In my case, the driver dropped my package in an unsecure, open area and failed to ring the doorbell or knock. Despite the fact that I worked from home on the day specifically to ensure I was present for deliveries, the package was stolen by a porch pirate before I even saw the notification. When I contacted customer service, they were completely dismissive. They refused to offer a reorder or investigate the delivery failure, essentially stating that their responsibility ends the moment the package touches the ground--regardless of where or how it was left. If you live in an urban area where package theft is a concern, do not trust this company with your money online. Their "completed delivery" policy offers zero protection against negligent couriers. Unless you can buy it in-store and walk out with it, I recommend taking your business to a retailer with more accountable shipping practices.

We have bought jackets, ski googles and helmets and today, a whole snowboarding set up for my daughter. They have a phenomenal selection of all things snow. If you want it, they probably have it. Their prices are reasonable and they have amazing sales. If you buy boots there, they will heat mold them for free. They also mounted the bindings for free as well. We also received a couple of other goodies. They explain the pros and cons of each thing so you can make an informed decision. There is no hard sell. We actually bought boots from Thirty-two directly, but they were the wrong size after they measured my daughter's foot. Proper sized boots are really important for comfort. They explained why she should go with a smaller size. We decided to return our original boots and decided to go with the pair they had. They were a higher end boot, which was a bit more than she needed, but given the extra features and the deal they gave us, we couldn't refuse. The specialized service we received today is something you just don't find at most places any more. They proved why it's so important to support mom and pop small businesses. Ski/snowboarding equipment is an investment and to have experts help fit and inform us of our options was so helpful. It's something you just can't find online. Please don't use these businesses for their expertise and turn around and spend your money online. You may think you saved a few bucks, but ultimately you don't. Because we bought the entire set up, they took really good care of us and gave us a deal. We walked away knowing we made the right purchase and my daughter can't wait for snow! Avalanche has a partnership with Scandinavian Ski Shop so we got her skis here for this season. We've gotten her skis at both Viking and William's in the past and I found Scandinavian to be the most efficient and best customer service. We booked an appointment for a Sunday afternoon in the fall and were in and out of there in 20 minutes...with skis in our hand. We just needed some snow, which didn't show up for a few months later, but she was ready to go for her first trip thru Avalanche in December. We returned the skis this week after she used them for Spring Break and I was a little worried it was late in the season, but they said we could have kept them until May. Granted they would be collecting dust in our garage for the next months since ski season seems to be over everywhere, but glad to know they are flexible. I'll likely buy her a pair of skis next year since I think she's fully grown so it's not worth renting season after season, but based on the rental experience I'd consider buying them from Scandinavian. They also have a great collection of jackets, helmets and other winter/ski gear that I'll be sure to check out for our entire family next year. It was another fun year on the slopes and thankful to Scandinavian for getting her ready for it!

During this process I heard one employee say that's why you shouldn't buy used stuff so I could hear it across the store. I then confronted the employee and asked them why they would say that and he said he didn't mean for me to hear it and that they would relook about helping me out with the price. We worked out that I would pay between 120-150 depending on part costs. Then waited A couple weeks to get the part and when I went to pick it up they charged me the full amount anyway saying there was nothing written down. Not buying anything from this store ever. The boot fitting was excellent and for an hour they tried various boots having my wife stand, etc. to make sure the fit was perfect. We also found a pair of skis on sale that were perfect for her.
