Had a great early evening at Burlingame. We decided to try this spot, as we heard the chef had previously led at Salt at the Ritz Carlton. We were not disappointed! Amazing Brussels for an appetizer, tuna sashimi that was so fresh, and freshly baked bread. Funnily enough, our night was cut short due to a power outage on the entire block of downtown fernandina, so we can't wait to go back and finish the meal another night. All members of the staff were extremely knowledgeable and handled the power outage issue with grace. The building is a cute little blue house, you'd never know what's inside from the street. Loved dining at this cute little restaurant in historic Fernandina. It was a short walk from our bed and breakfast. It was a bit difficult to find in the dark. It looks like a house that's set back from the sidewalk. Upon entry we were greeted with a smile. Service was excellent and the server's food recommendations were stellar. The food was delicious and the homemade pasta was light but filling. A pinch of finishing salt would have perfected the dish but we enjoyed it nonetheless. Our original plan was to grab something casual, but the spot we wanted was packed, so we wandered over to The Burlingame, and I'm so glad we did! I wasn't exactly dressed for a nice restaurant, but the staff made us feel completely comfortable and welcome. They mentioned they're bringing some favorites back to the menu, so we started with the Brussels sprouts (highly recommend!) and then ordered entrées. I had the Ragù Bolognese, and my husband had the market fish, which happened to be red snapper that night. Both dishes were absolutely delicious, not a bite left on the plate. The drinks were just as impressive. I had the Lily of the Valley first, then our server had the bartender make me a Hugo, which was so refreshing. My husband enjoyed a 20-year port to finish off the night. All around, this place is an absolute hidden gem, great food, beautiful atmosphere, and friendly service. This was our absolute favorite spot when we went to Amelia Island. We sat at the bar for a drink before dinner and the bartender was extremely helpful and recommended a great bottle of wine. The service was excellent and food was delicious. I got the ragu and my wife got the wagyu, highly recommend both. Definitely a higher end experience and it came through in all aspects. read more

First timers at this restaurant and it was very enjoyable. We were greeted by the owner who sat us right at our reservation time. Various servers quickly greeted us with water and fresh bread. Our waiter was a very nice young man, very professional. We weren't very hungry so we only ordered entrees. We both had their 7 oz tenderloin and it was cooked exactly as we requested. The waiter also brought us a complimentary slice of fresh lemon pie since it was our wedding anniversary. We tried a couple of bites and it was very good. Burlingame is in a cute house in Downtown Fernandina Beach. I made a reservation for 6 ppl on OpenTable at least 2 weeks before our meal. I called 2 times to confirm the reservation and spoke to someone who looked up the booking and told me that they had the booking and were looking forward to our visit. Each time the person on the phone acknowledged that we were celebrating a birthday and named the person whose birthday we were celebrating. When we arrived, the host was taken aback by the fact that we said 6 people because he said it was made for 4. He immediately began to rectify the situation and bought be a drink while we waited. I appreciated the gesture. Know that the menu changes as to what is fresh and available. A couple was walking out as we were waiting for our table and said they were not staying for dinner because none of their 3 favorites were on the menu that evening. Jared was our server and he was top notch ! He is a real pro. All of the dishes were tasty but the steak frites , although cooked to order were not juicy steaks. The French fries are hand cut and double fried. Absolutely delicious and noteworthy. This is very live room with no carpet or any other materials to keep the noise down. At the end of the meal, we were waiting for an acknowledgment of the birthday, but Jared said that we didn't order any desserts and that they don't " give away free desserts." I get that, but why did the person on the phone when twice I called mention the birthday? Anyway, food was fine but because of the haphazardness, Burlingame will not be on my list when I return to Fernandina. read more

The food was outstanding in both presentation and flavor. What made the evening exceptional was our waiter, Dylan. He patiently explained menu items in an effort to be sure we would have the best dining experience. He was attentive to our needs through out the meal. One more note re Dylan - we were seated near a very loud party of six. One lady was conversing (aka yelling) so loudly that I was not able to hear my party nor was I able to speak without raising my voice to an uncomfortable level. Burlingame was one of our favorites! It was our first stop, and we were so happy to have visited. We were so hungry and cleaned our plates! The oysters were fresh. The octopus was cooked perfectly. But the staff handled it well, slipping us in to a table that had not shown up for their reservation after 20 minutes. The restaurant is small but cozy, and everyone was dining inside in the 90+ degree heat. In another turn, they forgot to assign a server...we had our drinks from the wait at the bar so we muddled through. The oysters were delicious. The wines we brought were excellent with out good. They had a really nice wine list. Corkage policy: One bottle of wine not on our list per four guests; $25 / 750 ml corkage My dry-aged steak was cooked perfectly but was overly fatty - had to trim considerably. Last night we went to Burlingame and we will definitely be back! The atmosphere upon entering is inviting, clean, warm with soft light and lots of windows and greenery surrounding it. The outside patio with its hanging lights made it feel cozy. David was our server and he was so knowledgeable about the restaurant (chef) (everything made in house) and the menu. Even our hostess was so nice checking on tables to see if they needed anything. The Brussel sprout starter was delicious! My bolognese was also delicious and the serving was more than enough. My husband's market fish (halibut) was also outstanding. We finished the meal with a French press coffee and chocolate torte! So if you get a chance, make a reservation here! First let me start off by saying the food was excellent. No one in our group of 8 women had any complaint about their order. In fact, most loved it. The problem (and he was a problem) was our waiter, Jared. He was unbelievably rude. It started when a member of our group asked about specials. He snapped at her and told her that she should let him finish (mind you, he wasn't saying anything at the time). He didn't seem to want to give us happy hour pricing on our wine even though we were in the last 30 mins of happy hour. But the best was yet to come. A member of our table asked for a piece of bread to soak up the sauce on her plate. He told her point blank that he would not give her a slice of bread as that was reserved for other customers. We thought it was a joke and laughed, but it wasn't a joke. He refused to give her a slice of bread. I have an expense account and travel quite a bit. I have never ever had this happen. Are you kidding? Jared ruined our dining experience. He should NOT be working in a position that requires dealing with the public. Perhaps he could work on a road crew or something. I think part of his behavior can be attributed to the restaurant's policy of charging 25% for gratuity on parties of 8. He knew he was getting 25% of our meal (which turned out to be $150) and decided that he could be as rude as he wanted to be. Believe me, he didn't deserve a tip and should be let go.
