They had great lunch specials, and everything looked fresh and well-made. I came here each morning while we spent the week at Bayhead, and it was the perfect breakfast! I ordered the pork roll and thought it was delicious! Iced coffees were solid and the staff was friendly. It's a cute little shop with groceries and souvenirs. I personally thought the actual groceries were overpriced but I get that it's a specialty store on the beach. I can't speak to the quality of the food because I didn't get that far. But it seems like they have some serious staffing issues. They're completely disorganized, don't call people back, are "too busy" to help customers with basic things. Hire more people for busy times, maybe? Ordered food for 4 from Burkes through DoorDash for delivery, and Dash texted me that the order was canceled - 30 minutes before the scheduled delivery! Some glitch between them and Burkes, so I called Burkes directly. Ethan handled the call and, while they weren't able to re-create the entire order at that moment, they were able to get me two chicken parm and two eggplant parm entrees, plus two orders of chicken fingers delivered hot and on time! This is the cutest place at the beach with its Aperol Spritz cart and other cute decor. The best food items that you didn't even know you needed are ready for you to purchase at this store. I have given Burkes many chances. It's a beautiful lay out and has what would seemingly be amazing choices. However, Burkes is all style no substance. In the past 5 times I've been it has taken 30+ minutes to get a sandwich. I could live with that. What I can't live with is that after a 30 minute wait the sandwich has always been wrong. The owner took what was once an amazing deli, and invested too much into renovations and not enough into service. read more

Burke's market is a "high end" bodega style fancy convenience store with mostly reasonable prices on the Jersey shore. They replace the beloved Central Market aka "Central Mark"up or "Tiffany's". Central has been a sea shore favorite convenience shop my whole entire childhood. When they sold it to the new owners, I was skeptical and sad. I am now do you delighted to report that this has been the best change from hurricane Sandy. Of course, I miss the old folks that ran the previous establishment they were the best in every way but now we have a new gig in town and it's terrific. Besides food and essentials they sell smaller items like gorgeous candles, coffee mugs, beach bags and hostess presents. Their buyer is terrific. I love their selection of fancy crackers, drinks, shacks and household essentials etc. They also make fresh sandwiches and have sushi and prepared food. All of the food that I've ever had there has been delicious. I am especially impressed with their phenomenal sandwiches. A few of my family members report that they make amazing breakfast sandwiches too. This charming market is connected to Candy Cabana which is an old fashion candy store. Beside the fact that CC is a charming experience, They have a nice choice of candy, souvenirs and knickknacks. The kids love this destination. I love their wonderful sweaters that read Bay Head or Mantoloking. On the other end of the store Burkes has great a boutique liquor store. If you're out trying to get ice purchase it there they have great cocktail Ice. The atmosphere is inviting and the prices are reasonable all things considered. The wine prices are pumped up a little bit but this is worth it for the convenience. I have been served over and over by their very friendly, helpful staff members who are all taking Covid-19 precautions seriously. Burke's Market is a wonderful addition to the Bay Head Mantoloking jersey shore. (don't forget to pick up some of their renowned Preppy Italian pasta sauce too, it's the best!) read more

I have celiac disease and they say they have gluten free options so I ordered and noted my SEVERE allergy. they marked my order as gluten free on my tag and receipt but I called after I took my first few bites and they said that they just realized they were sold out of gluten free bread so just gave me normal bread. I've been sick for two days now. this is not an allergy safe or allergy friendly establishment. if you have celiac or any other allergy/auto immune disease protect yourself and do not eat here. read more

I rarely write reviews on yelp but I had to this time. I have never experienced such DISGUSTING service in my life. When we got there, there were about 5 other people in the store and approximately 10 workers. My bf and I order 2 egg sandwiches. After waiting 25min, we checked on our order and were told 5min. 5min later we were told 10min. Excuse me, but 45min for 2 egg sandwiches?! And no apologies! Years ago, this was called Central Market and it had the best subs on the island, hands down. It was beachy, sandy and worn -- just perfect for Bay Head. Now, as Burke's Market, it's been brought up to date, with more contemporary offerings and gourmet selections in the aisles. So this past weekend my wife and I stopped into Burke's to pick up some lunch. As we walked in we admired the transformation that went into Burke's Market. My wife ordered 3 sandwiches, 2 pastrami sandwiches (this sandwich was listed as a special) and 1 Chicken Parmigiana. We paid for the sandwich's $30 plus and headed home. When my wife unwrapped her pastrami sandwich ( which should have had coleslaw and cheese on the sandwich) this is what she got see attached photos. Needless to say the sandwiches were burned, it wasn't pastrami and no coleslaw or cheese. I also would like to state that there was only 1 other customer ordering at that time, so there is no excuse that we should have received a burnt sandwich. Great selection of drinks and grocery food, excellent lattes, tuna sandwich was the best besides what my mother would make me! I love this place, nice people run it who are great with children and amuse my toddler while the food is prepared. They make custom sandwiches and i also enjoy their ready made salads. Today I called this sweet little market that I remembered stopping in two summers ago during a visit to Bay Head. I was looking for a special gift basket for a good friend who was just getting out of the hospital-needed it delivered same day. Spoke to two great girls, Gianna and Cindy, who helped me via many text messages all afternoon. I told them what I was looking for and they sent picture after picture after picture until they came up with the perfect gift basket for my friend! Gonna echo what most of the other reviews said here - the market itself is very nice and extremely clean, and the sandwiches are very good. However, the employees are almost entirely high schoolers who clearly haven't been trained well enough. Trying to make an order over the phone was an exercise in frustration. Also, not going to lie, I do miss Curtis' Central Market, which used to be at this location and was a vacation staple for my family for years whenever we visited Bay Head beach. Burke's isn't bad, but it's just not the same as Curtis'. read more
