First off you…read moremight notice if you speak to them at the office or read up on the company that Shane is the only inspector, this is not a corporate business - this means savings! Shane beat the prices of the two other inspectors I requested quotes from and I was even able to get the infrared imaging to check the walls for moisture and whatnot. The inspection itself was super thorough, the inspection report was also very detailed and you can see a sample report on his website of what you will be getting from him. You can even create a list of items using the website the report is on and it is very easy to do, which you can send to the seller to request to be fixed before you agree on the price. We ended up saving a lot of time and money by sending this list over to the seller. Shane really looked into every crevice of the home, and by walking around with him he gave us some very good advice about what will cost a lot to fix and should be done professionally, and what we could probably do ourselves very cheaply. He also gave us some information in general that would be nice to know about your new home, such as pointing out where the electrical panels and water shutoff valves are. We even got a little book at the end about being a home-owner and things you should know when you own a home. We had actually been able to view two inspection reports on the same home from previous buyers that fell through, and Shane's inspection report caught a lot more things than the other two reports. If for some reason we ever need an inspector in the future we know we will call Shane first.

I did a really deep dive before hiring them... comparing every ConEd approved contractor to see who had the best reviews, BBB ratings, etc and GHL had the highest marks everywhere. I spoke with Geoff initially, who is very helpful with getting us set in the right direction and he squeezed us in for an energy audit in a reasonable amount of time. Got the energy audit done with Jon, which was really interesting and gave me a full picture of the limitations of my home, but then also the places where we could make vast improvements. Jon is great by the way and took a bunch of time with us to answer our questions (we had a lot). They ended up doing blown in fiberglass insulation in the crawlspace below the roof. They scheduled this in a timely fashion, showed up right on time, finished quickly and cleaned up to our tenant's satisfaction. The installers were very polite, helpful and professional. Since I wasn't about to squeeze in that tiny crawlspace, they took plenty of photos of the work to let me know how it looked. Based on some rough estimates from my smart thermostat, we now run our boiler 25% less than before insulation. Keep in mind, that's just with insulating the crawlspace. If you're able to do your walls too, I'd assume these numbers could go even higher, but we couldn't. After rebates from ConEd and the IRA it virtually cost us nothing. As long as the rebates are in place, I'll likely bring them back every year to insulate something else. It's really a no brainer, especially with this company which is run like the Navy.

Todd (the owner) quoted insulation and "Air Sealing" for my home as part of the NJ energy savings program. When the numbers were crunched I ended up paying almost twice the the other insulation estimates I got BUT for an infinitely higher quality product (better insulation in the walls, sprayed cellulose and venting in the attic, foam sealing of all cracks) that will return energy savings benefits for years after the rebate was applied. Based on my calculations I will get a return for the additional cost in the first two or three years (and every other year will be additional savings!!) Their expertise is not just in Insulation and Energy Savings but in all things HVAC and general renovation. My previous GC turned out to be a shyster and Todd made himself available to help with multiple critical tasks delivering high quality in a timely and fair and friendly fashion. They work with peco so customers can get access to energy efficiency rebates. Peco gives you a home report and that gives the green home folks a map to properly insulating and sealing your home. They fixed a failing heat pump outdoors and insulated my basement. Truly was impressed with the work completed. The guys were always very respectful of my home and my multiple pets. I also value the way they do business. I live in a older home and we ran into a issue trying get insulation into my attic. In order to do the work the bill would have gone up another $5k for various reasons. They very transparent as to why. I did not move forward on the attic insulation and I never felt pressured to do so. Have to save up a bit before we tackle the attic insulation but would certainly go with this company again and will get a quote from them when the time is right.

In 2016, we selected GHS from a list of PECO recommended companies to install an entire HVAC unit (indoor air handler and outdoor condenser unit). After our horrible experience with GHS, I can't imagine how they made the list. On the installation day, the technicians dropped the system on the ground. One year later, a normal power outage fried the wiring to our thermostat, something that had never occurred before GHS installed our unit. A team came to replace it and left two poorly spackled holes in our ceiling (hallway and bathroom). Fast forward to 2019, and our heating bills skyrocketed. During a routine preventative maintenance, we learned that the unit was sorely low on refrigerant. GHS blamed hypothetical teens stealing refrigerant, another company messing with the system, etc. After at least four visits from GHS technicians in futile attempts to locate and repair a leak during the heat of summer, during which we needed to invest in multiple window AC units, a new outdoor condenser unit was installed. Fast forward to September 2020, and unit was once again 2 lbs. lower on refrigerant. GHS's owner could not fathom how we would be upset with his company rather than Lennox, claiming we had somehow received not one but two faulty units in a row. We have zero faith in GHS to fix the problem at this point, and we have invested over $10,000 in the process.
