a woman picking peaches from a table

My experience was late afternoon so most of the fruit was picked over! I did not like that you couldn't touch the fruit and pick the fruit you want. The stand down the street has a better selection and lets you decide what you wanted. It was so hot inside the building we left after looking for about 5 min. Maybe if you get here early the selection is better and is a tolerable temp to shop.

Looks like I forgot to post my review last year. Returned for peach season this year and am stocked up for the year. I love this little place not just for the fresh produce, but the variety of jams and salsas and other yummy things. The staff was helpful and friendly. The only downside was on my end, while the cobbler smelled amazing, I wasn't able to partake this time.

    moldy peach pits

We spent the day in Fredericksburg and on the way home we stopped here to get some local peaches to use in frozen drinks. I couldn't get over how expensive they were.....$20 for a basket of approximately 10 peaches. They also sold a similar size box of 'seconds' for $10. I was told that they were ready-to-use that day or very soon. I bought these since I didn't need perfect ones for drinks. When we got home, I got them out of the bag to cut up and found that all but 3 of the peaches were partially green....WAY too firm and unripe to use for anything.....and the three that I did cut up had plenty of unusable bad sections. One of the pits from the ones I cut up even had mold growing on it. Burg's also told me that these were freestone peaches but I found the pits were hard to remove from the flesh. If it wasn't a 2 hour drive from home, I would have returned them. Peaches that had green on them were put in a paper bag in the hope they'd ripen and two days later they still had green on them .....and the soft spots are getting worse. I've included photos that show how much bad stuff I cut off the 3 peaches and also of the pits. You might be able to see the green on the others. I will NEVER stop here again and am wishing I had just donated the $10 to a local charity instead.

Burg's Corner always attentive to their customers needs. Their peaches make the best treats, salsa makes the best addition to our snacks, and of course their hassle-free shipping online! Always happy to serve our community and out of town visitors.

Perfect shaded spot to enjoy your peach ice cream in the back. They have seating inside too if that's your style.

This is always a must stop for us when in Fredericksburg. Great store with all the jellies, salsa, butters and yes peaches. Cool gift store. Ice cream is a special treat. Always good.

Cute little store that's hard to miss in Stonewall. Esposa and I were out and about in the area for wine tasting. We stopped in. Not much going on here. Loads of peaches and peach products. Bathrooms are around back and quite nasty. Prices seem high. Guess we just weren't awestruck.

Try their peach ice-cream! It's refreshing and delicious and not too sweet at all. We bought some awesome peaches and beef jerky as well.

We usually go up to Fredericksburg to go to Augusta Vin for a tasting. She was a little disappointed when I pulled into Eckhardt Orchards. I'm not a fan of cling peaches. I was excited to see the Harvester freestone peaches were available. They are definitely a larger peach. They also have a lot of other produce available, but the target was peaches this time. It's always nice and breezy here. So I bought some Harvester peaches with the intent of making a peach crisp. Skins on for me. My wife and I tasted the peaches that I was cutting up. I have to say, some of the best peaches we have tasted. Intense peach flavor. I made the peach crisp and our guests remarked about the intense peach flavor. Their store on 87, outside of Fredericksburg proper is a 25 minute drive from our house in the hill country. We do this every weekend during peach season - from mid-May to mid - September. There is nothing like eating fresh peaches from Fredericksburg and Eckhardt has been providing great peaches from their peach orchard. From the clingstone varieties in May until the freestone varieties in June, July and August, their peaches are top notch. Also, they sell cantaloupes, squashes, tomatoes and other vegetables in season. The watermelons are big and juicy. I believe they get them from other farms in the valley. If you want to have an adventure, drive to their store in Fredericksburg and enjoy. They have the friendliest folks working there and will help you with any questions. If you ask, they will carry what you bought to your vehicle! I just love going there every weekend or any chance I get to buy fresh peaches!

I watched her recent "Good Taste" feature wherein she interviewed a full dining room of beaming patrons and commended the menu's standouts, painting a picture of a hidden gem that warranted a 90-minute drive from San Antonio. Our experience with Wrangler's began two weeks prior. A significant communication snafu regarding our reservation threatened to derail our plans before they even started. However, the owner salvaged the situation by issuing a $100 credit for the confusion. It was a kind, generous gesture of good faith that smoothed over the initial frustration and heightened our anticipation. Unfortunately, the goodwill established by the owner's gesture could not save the lunch that followed yesterday. To say my father and I were disappointed would be a gross understatement. In lieu of my typical journalistic style, I'll list and review each item individually. Caesar salad (1.5/5.0): The salad my father received bore little resemblance to the one featured prominently on Wrangler's website. The photo on the website (also posted on Yelp by the business owner) features green, leafy romaine stalks topped with dressing and what appear to be fried onions or shallots. At least 1/3 of the lettuce head my father received--cut lazily into two halves--consisted of hard, unpalatable white ribs. The dressing, which my father described as merely serviceable, sat in a pool at the bottom of the bowl, leaving the lettuce largely undressed. The accompanying crostini were stale and borderline inedible. Prime rib spring rolls (1.5/5.0): The allure of thinly sliced, desiccated prime rib stuffed into spring rolls was lost on me, but our server recommended them enthusiastically. The rolls looked and tasted oily, likely a result of being fried at too low a temperature. They sat in a bath of honey mustard that overpowered the dish and rendered the bottoms of the rolls a mushy mess. A garnish of raw carrots and cilantro added crunch but little else. Suggestion: pair the spring rolls with a cheese sauce and top them with *pickled* carrots to add some brightness and acidity. Smashburger (2.0/5.0): The patties were dry and tough from the center to the edges. My father detected little to no seasoning on the burger. The bottom bun functioned more like a sponge for the copious amounts of grease from the patties and sautéed onions. The accompanying fries, while acceptable, were standard cuts, not the intriguing sidewinder fries pictured on Yelp. Ribeye lunch special (1.0/5.0): This was unequivocally one of the worst ribeyes I've eaten in my life. If you follow my reviews, then you know I've ordered ribeyes from steakhouses of varying price points, so I know what constitutes a great steak. Unfortunately, the ribeye I received at Wrangler's ticked none of the boxes. It was tough, unseasoned, and consisted of approximately 40% gristle and huge globs of unrendered fat. See my attached photo for proof. The steak needed a hotter grill to render the fat (which should have been trimmed better initially) and produce the desired Maillard reaction. The salad that accompanied the steak was overdressed with what tasted like a balsamic vinaigrette. It was too sour and overpowering for me to stomach. The reviews on Yelp and Google are almost unanimously positive, so I am clearly in the minority. The interior features a lovely view of the adjoining vineyard, so at least that's a positive. Maybe we caught the restaurant on a bad day, or maybe the predominantly older clientele, most of whom strike me as locals, simply lack perspective and have no basis for comparison. Whatever the case, I cannot recommend Wrangler's Prime Rib Barn.

Since we're both salted caramel fans, we were sold. Careful when you're looking for it (and you should), since it's got a small sign and the window is on the side of the building. (See pics) We can fully endorse the review that brought us; the salted caramel crunch was absolutely amazing. Steve uses top shelf ingredients and makes his own caramel. The ice cream is smooth and delicious. It's creamy (but not the gooey, mouth coating stuff made by a mega corporation pretending to be Scandanvian). There are chocolate chunks, about 1/8" thick, probably made from the quality chocolate that they use for other flavors. It's like home made if the person at home was an expert chef. I tried the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Birthday Cake flavors, which both tasted great. The birthday cake ice cream tasted slightly artificial, but the sprinkles added a fun crunch. The chocolate chip cookie dough tasted like real cookie dough and had small bites of their homemade cookies mixed throughout, though I do wish the chunks were bigger. Both flavors were creamy, not icy, and not overly sweet. Overall, it's a delightful stop downtown with easy, quick service and a lovely courtyard to enjoy your scoops. I'd happily come back and recommend it to anyone visiting Fredericksburg.
