I have been a customer of this Burger Kings for several years, I am a regular at this location, visiting it at least 3-4 times a week
However my last visit to this location has left me (a regular customer), very upset, disappointed and feel the need to point out a huge issue that just happened to me and my wife at this location.
As, I am disabled, I have experienced discrimination from several people in public and several businesses through out my town and state. However I had never experienced that at this location before, thus why we go there a lot, UNTIL TODAY!
Tonight as we came in I went to the restroom first and my wife went up to order. A Burger King Employee, confronted my wife at the counter, and told her that he was sick of me coming into this Burger King and he is tried of having to clean up after me. My wife had never seen this Burger King employee before, so she was confused on what he was talking about. My wife got upset and went out to the car and was crying!
As, I came out of the bathroom, I had no idea that what had happened and as I went up to order my food, this guy employee came running out from the back of the kitchen area, waving his hands and started yelling at me, stating he was sick of seeing me in there all the time and tired of cleaning up after me all the time. I told him that was due to my disability, he stated he did not care, he was tired of seeing me in there and he was tired of cleaning up after me. I told him ever other employee there know I am disabled and they never have an issue with me.
He stated that he had to right to refuse to serve me, that he was tired of seeing me there, he was tired of me making a mess and he was tired of cleaning up after me. He then told me I could go get in the car with my wife and leave he did not want me to come there any more.
Well, I would like to say, I have tremors in my hands arms, neck and head, I walk with a cane and have mobility issues. I have several medical conditions, I have care aides that help and a wonderful wife that helps. If I do make a mess it's because I am disabled, have tremors (do to per Parkinson's), and usually my wife or care aides clean up the best they can.
ANY Restaurant Establishment that can't handle disabled people in their restaurant should not be in business.
I was shocked that this even happened at this Burger King Location, as I know some of the employees and they know me. I am not sure who this new guy employee is at this Burger King Location has, but him yelling at me in front of other customers and other Burger King staff members, over something that I can't control, was down right humiliating, cruel, disrespectful and unprofessional.
When I got out to the car my wife was crying, she couldn't understand why this Burger King employee had yelled at her about my disability, and something that she couldn't control.
I learned from my wife that this guy employee yelled at her, told her she better make sure I don't make a mess and she better make sure that either she cleans it up or she has me clean it up and he didn't ever want me making a mess in their restaurant ever again.
Employees at this Burger King know I am disabled, I have spoken with them before about my disabilities, they all understood the situation. Again, I am not sure who this guy employee is, but what he did was discrimination against me.
I am really disappointed that I have been a loyal customer and I have spent my money at this Burger Kings, supporting their business and supporting their jobs. Even doing several great reviews through the BK App for this location.
BUT then to just be tossed aside and humiliated in front of other customers and staff. I should not have had to have anyone in that BK know anything about my disability and I should not have to feel I did anything wrong when I disabled and can't help it.
I am hoping that the management from this Burger King also realizes that this is discrimination and I hope they address the issue with this employee, as this could really turn into a much bigger issue if it goes unresolved. read more
